Viva Piñata - The Official Thread

Yep, some posts ago someone said it reminded of something from Bullfrog. It can be a mixture of Dungeon Keeper & Sims & some pokemon/AC cuteness.

Regarding footage there are some recent videos at IGN. No video reviews yet.

:D Awesome.

Can you make a comment (even if it is generic and vague) about the future inclusion of a garden-visiting system?

Something cool to note, all progress you make in one garden is transfered to new ones, so if you go to start another garden you have all your upgraded equipment, level, money and don't need to take the tutorial again! Awesome :)

Sorry i'm not sure what info has been released and I don't want to get in trouble. :D

Holy snot, that is really awesome. Infinite single player offline replay value FTW!

Anyone figure out how to get the sour sherbat to become a residence, it said to make it eat a jack o latern and I figured a pumpikin would do, but I apparently need a jack o latern :lol

How do I carve one?

Eventually this cat lady opened up shop and sells some accessories.

Costalots? I bought the stuff on Xbox Live, but it won't let me put anything on my animals.

I've had her shop for a while.

:lol Did anyone notice that this game has a Genji joke?

It says "wallop the weak point for maximum seedage" during the loading "tips" page.

There's just so much stuff to this game. I hope everyone's confidence in Rare is restored.

TeamXbox gave the game an 8.4.

This game owns. I think I played it for ~8hrs yesterday.

Got my first item upgrade, all the stores are open and I have like 4 helpers available.

The pinata central stuff is neat too.

putting yokel teeth and a funny hat on a duck = comedy gold.

haha.

any options to take shots/ make photobooks and send/share them at all?

I think you can send pintas, though I'm not sure if that includes their hats.

I'm going to try the sending stuff right now.

Someone add me to your friends list.

yes, i know you can send pinatas. I was talking about also sending pictures/photographs you may take of your garden. Something like what can be done on PGR3.

btw: for people that doesnt have the game yet or is not sure about getting it, they talk about it in the latest 1upyours ( lol about luke´s tag designs )

Releasing two 80% games followed by an ~85% game is not too shabby at all. Hopefully their next few games can blast it out of the ball park (Banjo + Perfect Dark Next + Killer Instinct 360, I'm looking at you!)

I think I might have to scale back my garden for now. I'm at level 12, and I had a bunch of different species at one point-then everything started getting out of hand. They would constantly start fighting and getting sick-and that one guy keeps coming in and killing them because I cant keep all of them happy because there were so many. I think Im going to go back to just a couple of species to stock up on money and build some new houses or hire helpers.

By the way, this game is amazing-I had a bunch of people on my friends list messaging me to see if it was any good. Spread the word, Viva Piñata kicks ass. I was going to play some gears tonight, but ended up playing this for 5 hours straight.

Same thing happened to me and I didn't want any of my Pinatas to die so I paid the doctor to heal them all and then wound up with little cash. I also was delinquent for a time in mating my Wyrm Pinatas and then found myself with none left so I had to go hire the hunter. I think I'm going to scale back also and get a nice cash reserve.

God damn this thread, made me use my Amazon gift vouchers set aside for Wii!

1x "Viva Pinata (Xbox 360)"
Video Game; £39.99

Total for this order: £1.41

Ah well, can't complain at that price.

The Wii crowd I would think would go apeshit over Viva Pinata. It's that good but I've only played 5 hours (1 night) so we'll see how it plays it out.

My girlfriend played it all night last night and now has been playing it since around 10A.M. this morning. She's got some questions for GAF.

is there any way to stop them from fighting?

what does the sour tour do?

Someone either give me your gamertag or add me. Mine: Speevy

You can add my girlfriend and trade with her if you want.

She has more questions about the game, but can't think of them right now.

I stop my pinata from fighting by giving them a good whack with the shovel before they really get going. That seems to work, but sometimes they also just reengage the fight.

I think my girlfriend went to Best Buy the moment they opened today. She didn't have it last night but at around 10:15 I checked XBL and there she was on Viva Pinata.

okay i have some dillemas.

1. i can NEVER stop pinatas from fighting. I put my cursor over them with the shovel and it won't lock onto them, it just says "dig a hole" when i want to spank them with it to try and get them to stop fighting.

2. nothing is happening with my trees. they look awful and no fruits or nuts will grow and i tried fertilizers.

3. can pinata's eat budding flowers and corns? I keep planting them and then a minute later they're gone, and there was definitely not enough time for them to have withered from not enough water.

My gamer tag is CHAV HOOLIGAN if anyone wants to send me stuff.

My garden just increased in size and everything has gotten crazy. Due to the way it expands, I may just have to level and sell everything and start it over on the new, bigger footprint.

Exactly what I'm thinking of doing. There must be something we're missing in terms of keeping the population happy because all these damn pinata shouldn't be fighting so much.

I tried to fence in my bunnies and they started fighting each other >:(

Okay. I took a break last night and did Gears multiplayer all night.

Today I will get back to Pinata with a vengeance.

I'm at a point right now where my garden is crowded, I don't have enough money, and I'm constantly at a loss as to how to proceed. :P

This game is hard. And deep too.

What happens if you trap them up in pens and keep them sedated with the happy candy?

I figured I had things nice and squared for the size increase. I just didn't know it would increase the perimeter of my garden. I thought it would give another chunk of land to the north or something. It kind of took me by surprise. I then spent a day and a half clearing out the new land and seeding it with grass, and by the time I got back to my garden, things were falling apart. And that bad guy that busts sick pinatas open was going nuts.

Just picked it up during my lunch break. I won't have time to play it until 9-10 pm tonight. I must say that while the case is really cheap and unsafe feeling it's still just so damn cute.

That is exactly what I did after the garden expanded. I realized how poorly setup my previous garden was, now it is much more streamlined and easier to manage.

My GT is "purg3" if anyone wants to add me to their list

you need to take it to the one shop that transforms stuff. He'll make the pumpkin into a Jack o Latern.

Gamertag is Kateri. I won't be on until probably 8 or 9 tonight, but I can ship stuff out then.

As for getting honey...
To get bees to make honey I figured out/found that you have to put a beekeeper hat on the bees. Then they'll gather stuff and you have to direct 'em into the hive. It sells for 100.

Ok guys I'm at work and don't feel like reading through the entire thread, but what's the word? Is it good after all? My wife wants this. Is it worth the cash?

Not sure about your wife, but this game is good enough for jimbo himself.

Treat jimbo right.

Here is the next entry in my pinata journal:

So late last night, I reached level 11 or so and my garden grew in area. I knew this was going to happen eventually, so I had [my garden] Demi's Crotch built up in a modular fashion so the coming expansion wouldn't throw things into chaos.

Unfortunately, the expansion added to the perimeter of the garden, a bit of land on each side. My build plans only took into account the possibility that the land would be given to me in one big chunk, like say another lot to the north. The expansion along the perimeter did throw things into chaos since I was using the original boundary points on the map as the back wall of some cages and pens. In other words, a lot of the friskier and more deranged pinatas escaped. Within moments of the expansion, Demi's Crotch went from something resembling necessary totalitarianism to something much worse: a theatre of battle resembling the near-future race in LA.

I feebly tried to mediate. I beat some of the worst offenders to death, but I had to face the facts: the garden had fallen and would require massive changes. Since so many pinatas were dead and wounded and in the midst of violence, I decided to move into less chilling territory for a pinata day or two - landscaping.

The new land had to be flattened and seeded, and the junk on it had to be busted up for chocolate coins. This got me some much-needed capital for the future rebuilding.

I then destroyed that iteration of Demi's Crotch and sold off its inhabitants on the pinata black market. It was a brilliant, beautiful, and failed social experiment. Now the field where Demi's Crotch had been lies barren, but it is bigger and potentially more satisfying than it was when I first began. And now I shall start anew.

I have a feeling that this game may yet have more replay value than anyone ever thought, just because everyone's going to want to screw around in their gardens and make new ones.
