Viva Piñata - The Official Thread

Oh well! I'll send you some chocolate to recoup the cost of trying to breed them, ok?

Kittyflosses are my main pinata right now, along with Doenuts (my favorite pinata so far!), and I've several others. So it's no biggie. If you want, I could send you another later on, too. :)

I'm actually pretty good on the chocolate at the moment (especially if the Squazzil thing takes off), so you can hang onto that for another less fortunate gardener. But thanks!

My main pinatas at the moment are: Squazzil, Snailguys (forget their names... Shellycombs?), Mousemallows, and Whirlms.

I've also got a couple Sherbats, but haven't managed to get any Tulip seeds from Seedos yet, so I can't romance them.

Finally, I've got a couple extras hanging around (Lickatoads, Sparrowmints, Raisants), that I basically ignore for now... but sell off when I need some cash (Sparrowmints and Raisants in particular keep getting lured to my garden and then sold, because I don't feel comfortable encorporating them into the actual garden yet).

I was using the Whirlms to attract Fudgehogs, but then I planted some Thistle, and my snails ate them and got angry and started fights, so I decided I'd just beat on the Fudgehogs for now...

Yea, the tendency is to get all these new pinatas in your garden and to try and keep them all. You're better off focusing on a few at a time and selling off ones you don't need. They're very easy to re-attract / buy once you've gotten them once, so don't worry about it.

Thanks! Are they easy to re-attract and/or buy only if they're a resident, or even if they're only a visitor?

my XBL gamertag is heavy liquid if anyone wants to add me.

Gamertag plz :O Mine is the same as my GAF name.

TagThatTsT

I've also got the JuicyGoose and the RedHot..which will unlock another achievement for evo. the QuackBerry and the...fly something or another.

if you want to get the JuicyGoose and Redhot on your own..here you go..

have a torch going and have your Taffly go and land on it..put it out with your watering can and you've got a redhot.

Juicygoose - have your Quackberry eat a gooseberry and you've got the juicygoose.

Awesome. I like that there are odd ways to find new pinata. Thanks for the tip. :)

OMG, this game is great! I was just wanting to startplaying enough to record a video, and lo and behold almost 3 hours later I realize I should really start recording. It's been a long time since a game hooked me like that :)

Once they visit you'll get an encyclopedia entry that details what you need to do to get them to show back up. So its easy on that end.

Once they're a resident you can just buy them from Gretchen.

I feel the exact same way. Yesterday morning I found myself sitting on the floor in my pajammas, playing for a few hours. . because that's about as far as I got out of my bed thanks to Viva Pinata ;____;

Captain, I'll send you a friend invite in a bit. I'm going to reboot my garden today and start slowing down. So I'm going to lay it all out again and focus on smaller species and stuff.

Any idea when we'll be seeing the 1up review on this? I'm wondering what sort of critical response this game is going to get.

Captain N, will your offer still stand in a few hours when I get home?

My previous question maybe got lost in the posts jungle and didnt get answer.

Do the accesories affect the pinata stats in terms of stamina/defense against others in a fight or in their states ( sad, happy,sick...) or are they fashion/appearance customization only?

edit: btw, another review and another 8.4 (didnt know about that website though): http://xbox360.themanroom.com/game-review.php?id=35

Someone posted earlier that the beekeeper hat will help/cause the bee guys to make honey, but I don't have any of them.

So far, the small amount of accessorizing I have done has been entirely aethestic. Haven't had a chance to fully explore it yet.

reading the descriptions it *sounds* like certain items change certain stats. The helmet for instance, I think the Tiara makes them less likely the fight while the pirate hat makes them more aggressive etc.

If anyone wants a Pigxie just let me know and be sure to send me 7200..you'll get a secret achievement that only two people have right now.

How do you get it normally?

I got back and played the game for two hours.

This game is great so far.

At best buy, I saw 30 copies of Gears of War easily.

You know how many copies they had of Viva Pinata?

I grabbed the last one.

The spot they had them in could have only held about six or so copies. I swear Microsoft, that you better not print too few copies of this game!

So far this game looks to be home run if ever there was one. I'm only two hours in but I can tell certain gamers would buy a 360 for this game if they got a chance to play it at a freinds house. The 360 needs more games like this and I thank Rare for being brave enough to make something of this nature.

You just know Peter Molynueax is sitting over at Lionhead right now saying to himself "I wish I had thought of this!"

I got the guy on the cover right after I sent that to you.it rocks.

Yeah. I got a horstachio earlier yesterday. I was overjoyed at first, but then all hell broke lose between that horstachio and my resident ponockys. I don't think I've seen two type of pinata fight so much. Even the baby ponockys would pick fights with it! It was causing a lot of chaos in my otherwise serene garden, so I decided to sell off all my ponocks.

Cha-ching! I never did like the color yellow...

Finally recorded a video. I'll have the first 15 minutes of the game (up to the first hunt) online tomorrow morning when I get to work. Great looking video :)

hellz yeah..and i've got a zumbug which you need eight of them in order to get the lion later one.

Once you get the digglering or whatever..when it brings up an egg make sure you get your chicken(pet store) to go and sit on it..it'll hatch into a dragon.

Have your Sparrowmint eat a buttercup

I won't spoil any more.

Which you're going to need to have the Swanana romance first and have the Rashberry and then buy the mystery house.

Cross romancing a Swanana and a Rashberry

it makes them worth more money.

Anyone know if the little do-dads that you add to your pinata stay on them if you send them packing to another garden?

My Jack Sparrow with his Pirate's Hat wants to move over to my friends garden!

Sounds great if confirmed. Even more complexity and may be a way to also keep safer some favourite/precious pinatas.

Very appropiate name :lol

Ok. So I've finally found the option to view romance dances, and I've spent the last 10 minutes watching doenuts disco. Can there be a more awesome piñata species? :lol

looks like another 1UP Editor has got the bug:

So I sent an email to everyone on the Edit team of 1UP on Saturday morning at 6AM:

i just played 6 hours straight of viva pinata. what a compelling game.

-------------

I feel like I've run out of words to describe how engaging and enjoyable Viva Pinata is. I've been following it ever since the first press release and that was probably almost a year ago. I was fearful that it wouldn't live up to its potential and my own personal hype. But no, this game is truly compelling.

For all Pinata Gardeners out there, send me some pinatas! I currently have (in residence with their own houses and successful breeding):

-Bunnycomb
-Mothdrop
-Lickatoad
-Syrupent
-White Flutterby
-Squizzl
-Fudgehog
-Buzzlegum

Just discovered my first variant!

Shelleybean Variant #3:

Shelleybeans need to eat Bluebell seeds to romance. Forgetting it was the seed, I sent one of my Shelleybeans to eat the plant itself. Alert pops up, variant discovered! It's a new coloration, with far more blue. Still considered a Shelleybean, and still romanceable with non-varianted Shelleybeans. It appears all children hatch unvaried, but that could just be me small sample group at work.

EDIT:

Actually a question too, while I'm here. I just used fertilizer successfully for the first time a bit ago, and ended up getting bonus growth awards. Looking in the encyclopedia for my watercress (the plant in question), it lists the requirements for Catalyst 1 now. Looking in my player awards sections, I've got checks in Catalyst 1 and 2, and a ribbon symbol in Catalyst 3.

I'm a bit confused as to what exactly this means. I'm guessing that all catalysts work out to be the same bonus growthed plant? But why does catalyst one have three potential ingredients listed if that's the case?

Well I got the credits at level 32, but I don't see myself stopping anytime soon. I've got 27 achievements and yet still no 10 hour achievement.

What is the level cap of the game?

I'm not sure, but one of the guys on the game right now is a level 80.

Edit: If Microsoft ever releases a handheld system this better be a launch title! I want to be able to play it while the rest of my family is busy with tv or whatever. Maybe this can be the game Rare releases on the DS.

I'd be interested to know how many people bought this game because of this thread.

Yeah, me. It's amazing, though I've only logged 2 or 3 hours.

I'd kill for one of those dog-shaped piñatas, if anyone could spare one. My gamertag is N3ville Flynn.

Anyone else experiencing Black Screens of Death? I've had 3 of them so far in just as much 4-6 hours sessions.

Out of nowhere the screen goes black and i have to turn the 360 off/on to continue.

no freezes yet, the only weird thing that happened was when talking to seedos, once it took like 5 minutes for him to start talkin.

Also I got the last watering can, very nice :D

One quick question, do you have direct control over one character a-la "Animal Crossing", or are you moving a cursor around a-la "The Sims"

Thanks

I was always planning on picking it up since it's only AUS$70, and this thread has made me more excited for it than Gears.
