Wow! Sleeper hit of the year confirmed?

Can't wait to see what 1UP gives it. Their impressions have been great

Well, John Davidson seems to be enjoying it after reading his last two blog entries. I'm expecting an 8 or 9 out of him.

I just spent 4 hours on this gem ... It was so easy to get lost. Time melted by, the only thing that stopped me was my carpal tunnel.

you better get it soon! If you do I'll be sending you some kick arse stuff.
Aaagh you make it so tempting! I'm eyeing that Target deal some time this week...

Bizarrely enough, my girlfriend doesn't really want me to get the game. Somehow the art doesn't appeal to her, nor does the concept of Pinata ****ing. She thinks I should just stick to Gears :lol

I just got this game thanks to this thread. It's starting to get pretty fun now that I know the basics. I am early in the game and have two questions so far.

1) Is the area you start with as big as you can make your garden? Or does it open up later and let you expand past the white line?

2) Is there a way to make money besides the romance mini game (you only get 10 coins that way I think)? I'd like to start buying some fences and stone paths and stuff.

1. It opens up.
It will be maxed out by the time you reach level 22 or so. If you check the garden area within your journal, it'll show the current number of blocks you currently own, and the total. That total is the maximum you'll be able to own.

2. You can sell piñatas. Those worms you are breeding are worth 100 each, for instance. You can also sell the fruits from any trees you plant.

Is there any way to delete gardens?

Individually? Check the memory section of the dashboard. See if it has specific entries for your garden. Otherwise you can delete all your data and start over.

Has anyone figured out good uses for fences? I see a ton of little areas fenced in on the rare screenshots and I was just wondering if im missing something here. Im level 24 and have not had to make any fences yet.

What exactly are they for other then keeping angry pinatas away from each other? Also, it looks like there are gates, do you have to open those for the pinata or do they open on their own?

Yeah, fences are by far the most valule tool in terms of cutting off areas where certain pinatas can be and others can't.

Also, mousemallows will climb your trees, and the flying animals will perch atop anything, which is a clever defense mechanism.

Basically, the terrain you create affects how the animals living in it live and interact.

If you create this theme park of garden items, trees, and houses, your animals might struggle to find places to move around. But they're a lot more clever than your helpers, which will almost invariably get stuck if you put up too many large objects.

Is there a way to see why my Pinatas are becoming ill or injured? All of a sudden they seem to be dying on me and I wanna know why. Can I heal them without paying for the doctor?

How do I prevent sours from entering my garden? I can't seem to whack them with a shovel.

Is there a way to prevent or break up a fight between two pinatas?

Leafos just told me the one of the best games she ever played was grabbed by the ghoulies:

This game fell off my radar recently but reading this thread has really gotten me interested again. Its funny thinking back on all of the rare-hate this forum spewed in every previous Viva Pinata thread.

Anyone w/ children care to chime in on how their kids have received it? I understand that it may be too hard for them to play alone? Also, I'm curious how the TV show has been received. I don't have children so I'm not asking for advice or anything, I'm just curious from an armchair analyst perspective

I've just encountered a problem, and it happens to relate to fences, too. I've been redoing my garden tonight, and lawnscaping was the first task I set myself too. This time around I've made some heavy use of fences, but mainly in the area I've made my garden entrance. Just as I'm starting to get into it, one of the shopkeepers informs me that my garden is too crowded, and refuses to sell me anymore fencing items.

Too crowded? Hrm. My garden is empty. Almost completely barren save the grass on the ground and several trees. I've packed up all my pinatas (and mailed them to myself), and sent all my helpers away. There aren't any buildings save one kittyfloss house. My garden size is maxed, and it seems that I have tons of space available.

I'm confused. My first guess was that there is a (curiously small) limit on how much fence you can use. Of course, it's possible I'm just overlooking something.

Has anyone else had this problem?

Edit: Fence limit?

noticed that too...which I dont really like as well, my garden looks empty but says it's too populated cant add more trees/fences or pavements...:(
seems like we can only use certain amount of those things...wish that there's no limit in using this things...can I have a patch rare? :P

I just read John Davison's Blog entries and I'm super-psyched to start playing. It sounds like one of those games that you get back as much as you put into it. Once I get up and running in a few days I hope to trade with some of you...Or at least pimp my prettiest pinata's out.

Try putting other things in your garden. See what happens. For example, it wouldn't let me plant more than X number of trees.

WTF :lol : "Viva Piñata Promo" on sale at ebay

Here is the rarest collectors item you will ever encounter. A Real pinata for the upcoming smash hit "Viva Pinata". I received this as a gift from a friend of mine that helped work on Viva Pinata for the Xbox 360. As I was told, there is only a few of these in existence, making them super rare. I am putting it up for auction for someone more dedicated to video games than myself. The candy was taken out of the pinata from the top (there is a door for candy, so there is no damage done). The pinata measures about a foot high (from top of ears to bottom of feet) and about 6 inches long and has a Viva Pinata logo on the side. This is your one and only chance to own such a rare collectors item.

Wow, that guy is just lying. He didn't even put any effort into that logo! It's frickin' Scotch Taped right on the side. I love capitalist society!

Gigglepoo's Garden update - I have five Doenuts running around. Needless to say, the other animals are none too pleased.

haha the funny thing is that EB Games was giving those out for people who pre-ordered.

Are you kidding? My EBGames told me nothing of this. They said the only preorder bonus was that lame ass demo disk. What the hell? I love free stuff!

The sour candy population is being reduced in my garden! Woo! I was able to finally get 4 of them last night, along with their totems. Now what to do about those bastards I can't whack that destroy items in my garden...

It's insane how addictive this game is.
I swear those cinnamonkeys are opening the chicken's pen's gate.

I was just cruising along picking up level after level like a gardening god sent from Valhalla and all of a sudden it seems I have hit a wall. I spend most of my time healing sick animals and trying to break up fights. I also stopped attracting new animals.

Time to start selling things off.

You can't just hold onto every animal you want, you need to specialize and focus on a few breeds at a time and sell off the rest.

Invariably that seems to be the trend with the game, you start off wanting to grow and nuture your 'pets' but they're not pets. The entire point of the game is to breed and sell pinata. You can keep a few of your favorites around, but you need to be peddling the rest.

You're a pimp, not a father figure :P

This sort of happened to me at around level 15, but the problem I had was that there were too many piñatas in my garden. Maybe it's the same problem you're having.

A pimp, huh?

Hopefully Rare realizes that with their upcoming "patch/add-on"......

Also, I'm a strictly offline gamer. I hope us offline gamers can access the new content somehow. I have monies.
