Viva Piñata - The Official Thread

Here's how I've been making good money. Share your own tips!

Dig four holes as close together as you can. Dig three sets of them. Kind of like this:

O O....O O.....O O
O O....O O.....O O

Plant chili seeds in all of them

Buy the red fertilizer and fertilize your three sets of holes. Do this 3 times for each set of holes (that's the max). You dug the holes close together because it saves time and money by enabling you to fertilize four chili plants with just one dose of fertilizer.

If you have some time after the fertilizing is done, water them.

You'll be left with twelve 400 coin chilis (4800 total!) in about 60 seconds of work!

Chilis are great money. But once you get orchids, that's the way to go. I've been using Ivor's special blend fertilizer on them and that works to get them to maturity. 1800 chocolate in your pocket for each orchid. Although you can't group orchids as close as chilis.

BTW, we need a list of all Gaffers playing to set up a massive exchange network. If I've got the time tonight or tomorrow, I'll start mining GTs from this thread and hopefully we can get something going.

Mine is "Orodreth Eol" although don´t have the game yet. Shipped today and wont arrive in about 2 weeks :( .

Maybe we should have a system where a person puts what they need in their motto? Like right now I could use a frizzlybear or something. In other news I made 100g and got an achievement for it :D

I love that the game doesn't make you use codes like Animal Crossing (which is a personal favorite of mine) and you can send any pinata, regardless of its level.

Any chance that there will be some awesome X360 Bundle for the holidays or a X360 with a larger HD released for the Holidays? Tried it over at a buddies house and I been itchin to play some more.

ok im getting pissed, im trying to get a pigxie, the leafos chic said that you need to have a rashberry eat 10 tafflies in order for it to work, but when I direct it to the taffly it just shakes its head no and leaves. Anyone figure this out?

Well I've preordered this now after reading all these impressions and watching Blim's video. I'm still not entirely sure I will enjoy it but I need to give it a try.

Make sure there's not a predator nearby, or another condition you haven't fulfilled.

For badgers, specifically, you need four nocturnal residents in order for them to wander in from what I see in mine. Shouldn't be hard if you have a moth colony or bats you've converted off sours.

You're going to want to set up some neuts to keep them, though (sorry, I can never remember their candy names). In order to attract neuts, you just need watercrest flowers, so plant them all around your pond and neuts will start wandering by.

Just a warning, though, neuts are scrappers and will never rest as long as frogs are around. You'll basically have to let your frog population completely dissapear in order to keep them going.

Badgers are worth about 1500 a pop, however, so unless you have something pretty grand in your garden already, it's probably worth it. Their house is enormous, though.

no wonder the damn badgers barely come, sometimes i don't have 4 nocturnal residents at one time. so it sounds like the strategy here is to spam the certain plant/fruit/creature/whatever that the incoming pinatas desire. i was probably playing too conservatively by not having enough of each of their requirements.

thanks for the tips... i'm gonna try this again. and i totally agree, their house is way too big, especially for my current real estate.

I thought I lost my assests when I started a new garden but I'm glad to see you can maintain multiple gardens at once. Your available coins cover all the gardens under your profile.

Is there no way to move things around once you've placed them? My garden just grown bigger for the first time and now I want to move the fences back to the corner. Do I have to smash them and buy new ones or what?

And thanks for the tip on growing Chilis, I've got a lot of money now.

I don't think you can move anything, but what with how cheap everything is and how easy it is to get money, it's no big thing.

Remember, Leafos only tells the truth about half the time. It's gossip :)

Pigxie = Cross-romance a Rashberry and Swanana.

At first glance this looked too much like a kids game for my taste. But I'm beginning to reconsider. Perhaps with your garden never ending and reaching new levels, (I remember reading something like that in the IGN review) adults can put a lot of time into this game. I'll rent it if it's ever convenient.

It's still not a game I'd go out of my way for because the genre doesn't appeal to me. Hey, at least I said I'd consider playing it :lol

Games like R6: Vegas, GoW, Shadowrun, etc. are going to be the games I'll consider buying. Viva Pinata just seems a little strange to me so I'm hesitant.

After reading the impressions from the peeps in this thread, I've decided I'm going to get the game. I really enjoy "sim" type games. One of my gaming confessions is that I love playing Zoo Tycoon.

So after my like 3rd time of remodelling my garden I figured it was time to try just starting a 2nd garden since all my achievements/unlockables/money transfers. It was a surprisingly pleasant experience.

Started with the same amount of land as my normal one all set up as hard packed earth. Thirty minutes later I had all grass and a giant pond (I've decided to use this garden to attract/tame water creatures so I don't end up turning my main garden into a giant pond). I'm working on filling in the area with plants now, then I'll worry about pinatas. I'm also using this as a chance to experiment with fertilizer. It's not too bad for the regular plants, but sitting there waiting on trees to shed leaves gets pretty dull.

I'm hoping this'll work out well and I can set up three or four gardens with various themes (water/forest/insects/farm maybe?) so that I can swap gardens based on my mood. We'll see how it works out (and how much play time the Pinatas get once I get a Wii this weekend).

hey jedimike, i remember around the 360 launch you were playing a lot of outpost koloki... if that's any indication of your likeness towards tycoon style games then you are going to be BLOWN away by viva. great choice. i've already started a campaign on my gamertag motto: "buy Viva NOW bitches." :lol

If your money transfer over, having a blank, farming only garden would be pretty swank. Although, money really is no object. I guess it would make the 100,000 coin achievement easier.

One thing im having some problems with, now that im higher level I no longer have the ability to hit pinatas with the shovel when they fight. Is that normal?

Hello. Anyone know what languages are available in the NTSC version?

It seems spanish is also available.

I read elsewhere you can pour water over some of them when they´re fighting and will calm them down and eventually will left the battle.

Btw, the second part of Blimblim´s video is at xboxyde.

Ok, so I need a fully grown oak tree to attract a certain piñata. I can't seem to find the seeds at either store, though. Would one of you guys mind sending me one, assuming they're available to you? Gamertag's Intertron.

Thanks ahead of time.

Have you guys noticed the pack on the marketplace? Only 2 items (piñata wearables, at the paper pet store,) for 90 MS Points.

I HATE MICROTRANSACTIONS.

Professor Pester is the worst and most vile video game bad guy of all time. I hope at some point that I get the option to hang him from a tree and beat him with my shovel until his innards come out.

On a semi-related note, what the hell do I pay my watchlings for anyway?

Game is crack.

I spent about 3 hours trying to isolate an area to keep Raiseants and Buzzlegums from WW3. Mission failed. I need a friggin net or something.

Does anyone know how to tell if a fertilizer works/is good for a plant?

Oh. So after listening to my girlfriend complain about Professor Pester, I realized something.

I've only ever seen him once. I hit him with my shovel and he never came back.

Not only have I only seen Professor Pester once, but I've only ever recieved one factory challenge.

. . .

I think I broke Viva Pinata somehow. Time to start a new-new garden =\

ugh, so there's a bigger asshole than ruffian? he pissed me off big time yesterday. he started throwing sour candy at my monkey house and eventually it crumbled to pieces. he better not come around my parts when i'm level 80. i'm gonna bash his ****in' skull in.

For anyone interested in the development side of the game, theres an article on the art of Viva Piñata in this month edition of 3d World magazine (UK).

Also, any news about the soundtrack?, is it ever gonna be released like they did with kameo and PDZ?

In addition to a sound cue, you'll be able to immediately see the fertilizer taking effect for most plants. This is usually in the form of larger leaves, more fruit, bigger petals, etc.

And yeah, I ultimately had to sell off my buzzlegums. Raisants were far too cute to punish. I had similar problems with my kittyflosses and barkbarks and the horstachios and ponockys.

Thanks.

So, I'm now considering starting all over with a new garden, but... I feel somewhat attached to this one... and my favorite 4K Ducky... I CAN'T LEAVE THEM!

:(

I think I hit level 27 last night. It's just too easy to get lost within the game because there's always something to do, and you can do it at your own pace.

uh, two items for 90 points is like what? 60 cents an item?

oh Noes!

Not 10 years or so ago your ass was probably dropping .50 in some grocery store vending machine for a rub on tattoo or a plastic bouncey ball.

Well, that was probably more than 15 years ago... and back then I didn't have financial obligations.
:p Yes, I'm kidding when I bring up financial responsibility and talking about a $1.13 product.

BUT... I'm not complaining about the price itself, but the contents. I mean, I rarely buy any items for my piñatas, and actually wouldn't mind paying something like that for a new interesting type of piñata. I guess my expectation is that this sort of downloadable content would be free as it doesn't really add much to the game, as opposed to something like a new piñata, or helper, or something that could really have a significant impact to the gameplay.

I BOUGHT THE WIZARD'S TOWER!

I don't know if it's been mentioned yet, but has anyone seen the little joke on Sony during the first loading screen?

One of the tips read something like this, ""Use the D-pad for real time tool change, and wallop Seedos' weak point for massive damage!" :lol
