Viva Piñata - The Official Thread

I just tried the Chili seed method as posted by VALIS, and I have to say it works great! Now I can actually afford the doctor's visits after all these damn fights!

uh, two items for 90 points is like what? 60 cents an item?

oh Noes!

Not 10 years or so ago your ass was probably dropping .50 in some grocery store vending machine for a rub on tattoo or a plastic bouncey ball.

I was sort of upset about the pricing, too, but when you put it like that... :lol

It's still pretty nasty inflation when you consider the price of the original game.

50 bucks for 60ish different pinatas plus a crap load of objects and acessories etc.

Even considering ONLY pinatas and no other content, we paid less than a buck per pinata for the game. So the microtransactions do represent a huge increase in price.

Let's not sidetrack the thread toooo much into microtransaction bitching, though I am curious what happens if someone who buys the content sends a pinata wearing an accessory to someone who doesn't own it.

I bought the hats because well, I was excited about the game. I'd say that if you don't have the 90 points stored already, just wait.

I don't regret using my already bought points though.

Seems you can send a pinata with the purchased accesories BUT the person that receives it will not have the accesories available for other ones, just for that one you sent.

I don't know if it's been mentioned yet, but has anyone seen the little joke on Sony during the first loading screen?

One of the tips read something like this, ""Use the D-pad for real time tool change, and wallop Seedos' weak point for massive damage!" :lol

Are you kidding? That's too cool if true. :lol

"CAN YOU HELP US?!"

Ok, my fellow GAF piñata farmers. I'm putting out a request. I need one buzzenge and/or one candary. If any of you have them (or can access them via the Hunter), I'm up for trading. Chocolate, piñatas, or both. :)

I'm kinda stuck with this game, I've put in a few hours and really don't have anything to do.

I have whirms mating like crazy, then I either sell them, or break them open for candy. I've built fences so certain Pinatas don't fight. I don't know what else to do.

I'm having a hard directing pinatas to do certain things, and go to certain areas.

Can someone post some basic tips for playing this game. I'm just totally lost in what I should be doing.

Thanks

here's something to try... start landscaping. buy some seeds & plant a whole bunch of flowers/trees, sell of the majority of your worms, dig up some ponds and then you'll start noticing cool things :). don't spend too much time breeding the same pinata or attempting to make them happy. some will die no matter what. if you encounter some sour pinatas, check their requirements to become a resident and work on them. it's very rewarding.

You can dig up ponds? How do you do that ? I guess my biggest problem is that I am spending too much time breeding and trying to make them happy.

Is the main goal to have as many residents as possible, or just build a kick ass garden for pinatas to come in and out of?

Check your dictionary for the piñatas that have visited your garden and take into account their requirements for residence. After that, just pick the ones you want to work on and so on.

Yeah. This game has an interesting dynamic in which you can only get to a certain point by just breeding. You have to grow things in order to attract more pinatas and advance.

I'm on level 18 now.

Ah, I see. All I have been doing is breeding, and building a few houses for them. I didn't really start actually gardening.

skip all that. you're an entrepreneur, not a zoo keeper. a big aspect of this game is to hustle and make the big time. eventually when you're rich you can buy your favorite species and dress em up to look nice and increase their value. but when you're starting off what you wanna do is rake in the dough.

there really is no goal, set up goals for yourself. mine for example are to attract certain species to make them residents because they're worth 2000+ coins and if i breed a bunch of them then i'll have more money to spend on my landscaping and other garden features to attract even MORE expensive pinatas. then my next goal would be to use that money to pimp out my garden a bit with some nice garden decorations, lighting, pond and to fence in those "money makers".

then there are people who just love collecting pinatas for fun. that might mess you up early in the game though because you'll end up spending too much money trying to maintain the chaos. i think the end all purpose of this game is to just experiment and have fun... like i said, you set your own goals and it's really up to you what you want to make of this game. if you want a set of goals, check the achievements list. it's a great starting point if you want to gain levels and get better at the game.

edit: to dig ponds you'll need to gain some levels -- your shovel will eventually be upgraded to allow you to do so.

Dude you've been a big help, when I started I thought I had to mate worms and make pinatas happy and not fight.

I'm gonna start a new game and just do what you said and do what I want to do to.

Thanks again man.

no problem.. i'd hate for people to buy this game and trade it in without experiencing all the cool stuff that happens when you get deep into it. damn i sound like a viral marketer. :lol buy viva NOW bitches!

This game really, REALLY needs a strategy guide or some very comprehensive FAQs on GameFAQs. I kind of hit the wall last night. I'm about level 20 or so and at this point everything seems down to experimentation. There's just so much to know it's hard to both discover and remember it all. I need to make a Green Flutterscotch for the frogs to eat. How do I do that? *shrug* I could feed it one of a couple dozen seeds, or one of a couple dozen plants, or one of about a dozen fruits, or maybe there's some other condition that makes a Green Flutterscotch, I dunno. I applied gold tinkering to a jar of honey and got medicine. But now what can I do with the medicine? It doesn't heal sick pinatas. Do I just sell it? But it cost more to apply gold tinkering than I'd get by selling the medicine.

This is not a complaint (actually it's more of a compliment that the game is so friggin' deep), but I'm just frustrated at this point. I don't want to sit there for hours going, "Okay mouse, now eat a bluebell seed. Now eat a daisy seed. Now eat an apple. Now eat some corn. etc." GAMEFAQS TO THE RESCUE!!

Wow. Tafflies are more useful than I thought.

I'm level 41 and I just discovered that they could create fertlizer from various seeds/fruit. ^_^

I went over to Gamestop during lunch to swap out my broke 360 for a new one and during the whole process the guy behind the counter gave me my old HD but forgot to take the other HD out of the box. So I basically got myself a free HD. I then went to Software Etc. on the floor above them and traded it in for Viva Pinata. Not too bad.

I'm really looking forward to spending some time with it this weekend.

Ruffians are supposed to screw up your garden! That's not a flaw. :/

Anyway, yeah, there are so many things to discover about this game.

Btw, what does this house with scissors on it do?

Well this game has received nothing but great reviews, but I wish someone would just go ahead and give it the 9.something it rightfully deserves. These people who are reviewing it even know better than anyone that this game is getting updated online support in the future.

But anyway, goty in my book.

Amazon has this on sale for $45. Bought it with a rewards certificate and may be more excited for it to show up than my new Nintendo.

Thanks, GAF, for enlightening me about this game. Seems like there's ZERO coverage for it asides from cryptic blog posts and podcast comments.

Let the friend requests fly!

This will be a lot of fun if we're all sending each other random presents and stuff all the time. Hopefully they'll get garden visits in the game in the future, too.

Wait, what? What's Gold Tinkering? I need that Medicine for my baby!

Seriously,
You give the medicine to one of the Sour pinatas, the one that wants a Birdbath.

Oh, and my Gamertag is Gigglepoo. I'm a level 24 gardener!

Can Viva Pinata be the game of the year? Can MS broaden drastically its market with this game (i.e. draw Nintendo - Animal Crossing - gamers)?

There's no such thing as Game of the Year

Any discussion of the most interesting games that came out in 2006 will have to include Viva Pinata, t hough. Easily one of the most entertaining games I've played.

Got this game and fired it up yesterday - pretty interesting little game. It was just starting to get crazy when I had to shut it off. Hopefully I'll be able to remember the chaos and fix the problems when I have time to play again. You guys can add me to the Viva list - Gamertag is Brashnir.

I'll have the game next Monday or Tuesday.

Feel free to add me...

watching Xboxyde videos, i had my mouth open the whole time. I don't know why, but this game appeals to me more than gears of war.

I wonder how much I can buy it for if I do a trade in.

Like I said, I just got the game today (along with a brand new 360) but I'm typing up some ancillary testing reports for work tonight and probably won't be able to start playing 'til tomorrow evening at the soonest. Hell, I still haven't really played Gears yet.

Anywho...my gamertag - pocketfudge

Made some boxart to slide into a normal dvd case, because I hate what the game came it.

Watch out, the image is MASSIVE because its meant to be printed at 300dpi.

I'll send you a pinata.

Keep in mind that the pinata-trading aspect only opens up when you get the post office. It doesn't take very long, but it's not right when you start.

However, when you select the post office I assume my crate will be waiting for you. I basically just bought the most expensive pinata I could find and dorked it up with accessories.
