Viva Piñata - The Official Thread

how the heck do I make a green flutterscotch? I've made red, blue, purple, and I think one other color, but I can't seem to make any green ones, which is what my lickatoads need to romance.

Feed it a water-cress flower.

There are like around ten flutterscotch variants BTW. In addition to the colors you listed there is an orange, pink, black, brown, yellow and I think one other.

the ones I've done, the challenge gives you a crate. you click the button to pack the crate, select the pinatas to pack, then the crate gets sent away.

but what do you have to do to get a challenge?

funny - that's the first plant I tried. It wouldn't grow at the time, but I think I now realize what the problem was. I had some other things going on when I planted it, and overlooked the obvious. thanks.

DR. PESTER, HE...

HE DID IT AGAIN!

He smacked my dog, then came back to take out one of my monkeys.

I picked this game up earlier this morning and played the friggin game for 8 hours straight. Got to level 21 and am enjoying the hell out of it.

How does the multiple garden thing work?

I am thinking of making three separate gardens (a grassy one, water one, etc). I think you get to keep your money but what about your Pinatas and stuff (like would you still be able to rebuy them from Gretchum Fetchum and buy their houses from Willy Builder etc)? Or is it like basically starting from scratch just that you keep your money?

I'm pretty sure you can get rid of Mr. Pester with the cutlass sword..He hasn't shown up since I got it and none of the other ruff guys.

Essentially, all your gardens share one account. So when you start a new garden it's as a big as your original, only it's totally blank. You're going to have to repound that grass.

All the gardens on your account pull from the same bank account. They're all the same level and they can order all the same pinata from the hunter.

Really, it's just a clean slate in terms of land.

Starting a new garden is pretty convenient, so no worries. You keep your money and you still have access to everything you've unlocked. Piñata houses, piñata, store items, etc.

Edit: Beaten.

Same for me. I played for several hours today without spotting Pester and company once. It's quite a relief not having to worry about that bastid popping up in my garden.

I just got 2 Horstachios at once! Talk about luck.

Whoa. I sent you two Chewnicorns, the ones that weren't getting along with the horstachio you gave me. Hopefully they'll play nicer with the horstachios in your garden. I can't stand the things, myself. Their cotten candy house didn't vibe well with my garden.

I can't get the ****ing quackberry to visit -

I have plenty of water, but the corn keeps growing too fast and the plant dissapears :(

I think the Quackberry needs bread to visit, not sure, maybe thats just what it wants to stay in your garden.

I can send you one though if you want.

All this silly and goofy terminology going over my head, it's hilarious to see you grown men use it. :lol

Sounds like a great game but seems too much of a time investment for me.

I have bread "out" waiting for the quackberry as well

Do you have to play the minigames everytime your creatures mate?

Sadly, yes. It becomes a real pain later on when you're breeding higher level piñata, too. The mini game is the one and only complaint I have with Viva.

I've been resisting FAQs and the wiki link posted earlier like the plague, as I'm really enjoying discovering things on my own, but man is it ever tempting when one of your pinatas wants to eat one you've never seen and you have no clue how to get it.

Two separate cases of this happening to me simultaneously. Grr.

Well, thanks to this thread and the 1up review, I traded in Gears and Marvel Ultimate Alliance today for Viva and Elite Beat Agents. Please add me to the legion of Gaffers united in Pinata raising.

I did get an evil eye from the ebgames guy, but you can check my gamertag--I already beat GoW on hardcore, and insane just seemed like overkill.

So what do you think the first month sales will be like?
I don't think sales are that hot. I did a search on EBgames.com today--all the stores in Chicago had multiple copies, and most hadn't ordered any more, if that's any indication.

this is definitely a niche title... but i predict a huge cult following despite the less than stellar initial sales.

Oh man, I just saw the Viva Piñata commercial with the horstachio. Hilarious stuff. Definitely one of the better game ads popping up on TV. :lol

This thread is pretty sucessful.

Of course, Okami had a large thread too.......

I doubt the game will sell any more then 20,000 copies in the first month. It's kinda coming out at a bad time with big games like Gears of War, Call of Duty 3, Rainbow Six Vegas, FEAR, etc. VP is pretty much selling only by word of mouth.

I hope I'm wrong though cause it deserves to sell good. I'd really like to see a sequel get made.

Game is too damn deep. So many different things to try. Just happened to give a Sparrowmint a buttercup and got a pinata variant :D

yeah, the game has alot to it, I've played probably close to 10 hours so far and I got the game yesterday

OH MY WORD

I just watched a Fizzlybear crawl from the bottom to the top of that enormous mountain in the background of your garden. The details that were put into this game are amazing, not to mention the animation.

This game is absolutely brilliant.

I pretty much figure it wont sell well initially. I'm hoping word of mouth and the cartoon show ill help drive sales. I'm personally going on a crusade to convince my 360 owning friends to get this game.

I've given up on breeding the fudgehog for now. It's agressive towards like everything and I can't keep it penned in effectively.

kind of funny you mention that. I've had a fudgehog in my garden for a few days now, and other than the whirlms it ate to fulfill its resident requirement, the thing has never fought with any other pinatas at all. I haven't tried breeding them yet though. I only have one, which sort of showed up by accident when I planted some thistle to experiment with flutterscotch variants. I even named him since he has hung around so peacefully for so long.

ok I'm thinking about picking this up instead of Gears(for now) am I nuts ? :lol or is it a good idea as Ive been looking for a game what will last me for a good while.

In terms of longevity, if you add up the various challenges and achievements, plus the leaderboards and online trading, then you factor in the potential for future modes and downloads, this game is easily as long as (or longer than) a giant RPG.
