Viva Piñata - The Official Thread

I was naming the first pair of pinatas to visit my garden, but it really, really sucked to see them killed, eaten, or sick, so now I just leave the default name. I still have a great fondness for my first two Sparrowmints... Nina and Bart. I always make sure Nina mates with Bart, but every once in a while, I'll let Bart "get with" some other Sparrowmints.

I got some Pudgeons and their nasty home, but I can't figure out how to get the camera. It isn't available in the pet shop.... maybe I'm not at a high enough level yet.

I simply couldn't stand the pudgeon's house. And endless stream of leaking bird ****? No thanks. The piñatas themselves are nice, but I felt like my garden value was plummetting just by having them resident.
 
I got a Wii last night. Wii Sports and Zelda are both really fun... but I found myself drifting back to my garden a few times today. I just love this game. I'm trying to get enough Master Romancer awards to lure a certain Sour pest into my garden. I am overrun with Moozipans right now. Incessant mooing FTW!

Achievements in this game do a good job of making me play the game "right." With all the Secret Achievements, I have no idea what I need to do. So I do a little bit of everything. I grow all the different flowers, use fertilizer, mix animal types, feed them various objects, etc. It's great. I don't get many achievements, but it's a blast trying to figure out what Rare wants me to do. I even made a pimped out Moozipan who looks like Duncan the horse from that awful Simpsons episode.
 
Moozipan's rock. I have to hanging around: Moonita Applebun and LVL 3 WARRIOR. Moonita has a pink afro, gold teeth, bling braclet and fancy shoes. WARRIOR has the spartan helmet, nose ring and combat boots.
 
Still waiting for the regular case, come on MS. I really want the game after all these glowing impressions, but I really like the other case better, enough to wait...they just better release it sooner or later. Isn't the tombstone a limited edition anyways?

Try clearing your HD cache with the X, X, LB, RB, X, X code.
 
I got it Saturday, and I'm around level 15. Great, crazy game, thanks for the glowing recommendations GAF :D

Doesn't that code also delete all of your patches as well? I thought booting your 360 while holding A cleared the cache but kept all game updates.
 
Yeah, this is my favorite game so far this year. I've been playing it quite a bit today and got over level 50. I got the
four headed snake
and all that jazz..it's awesome!

Just click on a Crowla and then the medicine. He'll get the hint.

Here's a question - what's the deal with Tinkering? Specifically, what's the difference between bronze, silver and gold? I don't remember this being mentioned in the game. I didn't even realize Mr. Tinker was a character until someone mentioned how to get medicine earlier in this thread.

Does anyone get as much satisfaction watching the Sour Croc eat a Swanana as I do? God, those birds are just ridiculous! Too damn prissy.

No. I havent had to redownload any patches. I do it all the time and I will tell you why. If I havent played LOTR BFME for a while and I pop it in, the framerate turns to crap. I have no idea why but you have to clear the cache to get a smooth framerate. If you dont the game stutters like crazy any time you select a character or building or even try to navigate a menu. This is not my imagination, it makes a HUGE ****ing difference. It could be the same for Viva Pinata.

Edit: Holding A on bootup does not have the same effect.
 
To clear the cache, go to the system blade, select the hard drive and hit XXLBLBRBRBXX ( I think, I may have mixed up LB and RB). It should then ask you if you want to perform maintenance on the HDD.

Havent played yet but its a mixture of Sims, animal crossing,.. and specially reminds of Dungeon Keeper or something else from Bullfrog.

Suppose there are no movie related items because of rights ( would love to put a vader helmet ).
 
Im interested to know who composed Viva's music. Rare have some of the best composers in the industry, part of the excitement of playing new Rare games is listening to the soundtrack.

Edit: Grant Kirkhope, he produced and composed some of the best music in Goldeneye and Perfect Dark. Awesome... god damn i cant wait for this!!!

I wouldn't really call this game relaxing, but I guess that depends on how you play it. There is no Game Over so there is no real reason to care deeply about what's happening, but if you do (like me) it can be quite stressful.

That's the main reason I want this. I need a break from all of the headshotting, checkpointing, and gibbing of the past several games I've went through. For the Xbox DoAX1 was that game but Team Ninja totally screwed up DoAX2. I figure I'll just youtube the good bits and ebay the game itself.

I'm sure my blood pressure will go up when my favorite pinatas get torn to ribbons though. :(

I've found that once you figure out the basics of how the game works, it's quite relaxing.

Getting flying creatures to romance when your garden is full of trees is about the only thing that gets my blood pressure up. It took me about an hour and a half to get my Eaglairs to romance for the first time.

The game is only relaxing if chaos relaxes you. It is strangely more like a fast paced RTS in a lot of ways then the comparisons people have been making. Not a complaint at all, but I find Gears to be more relaxing.

I want the chippopatamus more, but if you can send a chewnicorn too that'd be cool. just buy an extra one from the hunter and pack it up, i'll pay or trade whatever you want.
 
Please give me some advice.

I spent a lot of time fencing my worms, ants and snakes but I just looked at IGN's pictures and they seemed to have just let them roam randomly in the garden.

What animals should I fence and which should not be fenced?

Also after seeing IGN's pics I want to start all over again because my garden looks crappy compared to it. Should I sell everything and start over or should I start a new game?

Well it depends how far along you are..if you get pretty far along there's no point for the worms at all. You should fence in things that you don't want eatten. Bunnies, chickens..things that will be attacked just for being around.

or alternatively, you can get a pair of whatever pinata comes in and harasses those ones, and put them in a pen, since you won't get any more visitors once you have a pair.

also, a lot of the time, once the aggressive pinata becomes a resident, it won't attack the same pinata that it was eating to meet its resident requirements.

damn... anyone else feel kinda cheated by the pricing on these? how much does 90pts translate into USD?
 
About the Galagoogoo - he ate my turnips and mothdrops (i've got the moon light in my garden too) so those two requirements should be done (they both had the green check marks). i then hired the watchling (and night watchling) which i think is the last requirement for him to become a resident but he refuses to come in my garden anymore. he just stands around outside my garden and looking/walking around, and then goes back home.

What am i doing wrong? do i need to have the 16 turnips and 8 mothdrops in my garden again for him to visit even though he already ate those?
