Viva Piñata - The Official Thread

I'm doing the same thing. About to finish up TP and moving on to VP shortly

Be looking for my (undoubtedly) silly Qs probably by this coming weekend.

It's only logical to go from one system's best game to another. :)

Umm.....don't forget that fertilizer actually exists (like me).
Wait, how do you use it, tried it, but I didn't see anything happen.

Has anybody in this thread claimed that the game has a huge show stopping bug? I have just encountered it and this makes me sad.

I am not sure what triggered it but visitors have stopped coming by. I am on level 22 and the garden is at its fullest size. My visitors have just stopped coming by. The only thing I see in the distance sometimes is sweet tooth who I believe is the last animal that has shown up. I tried everything to get any strays including harvesting tons of carrots to draw in rabbits to turning off my tower of sour. Nothing works, there are no animals to be seen anywhere. I have put 30+ hours into this game and there is no way I am starting over again. I also can not make anything mate or get a heart above their head (this is what first tipped me off). Feed them cookies or whatever the requirements are or feeding them romance candies does not work, even if they are 100% happy.

Besides these two major bugs, everything in the game works perfectly (however this profile is totally useless now).

When first plant your seed (trees are another story), quickly go to the store and buy fertilizer which is of the color of the fruit/vegetable the seed produces (in many cases it's the color of the seed, but for carrots, for example, the seed is brown but the carrots are orange so you need orange fertilzer.

etc.

it's not a bug. your garden is full. sell some pinatas.

I'll try that but I am sure I have had as many in a smaller garden. But if this works, well I will be very happy.

I am so tired but I will try this now because I want to know if it works.

The size of your garden doesn't matter, it's a 30 pinata limit period.

Has anyone else seen a bug where Pinatas & helpers turn invisible? It's happened loads of times to me (with both) the only way to 'fix' it seems to be to sell the offending Pinata (its a bitch to find them, have to wait till they fall asleep then look for the zzz's) and hope the next one is visible.

That doesnt work with the helpers though so ive had a gatherling for 20 odd days who ive never seen.

This is such a common bug, everything in the game can become invisible. Houses, trees and most annoyingly, fences and pinatas >_<

I just gave up trying to use fences for now until the invisible bug is fixed.

Anyone think the tree limit is a bit constricting?

I can put in a few hazlenut trees and a couple of figs and that's about it.

Your favorite pinata - hard to say but would choose sherbats
Your least favorite pinata - lickatoads and at the moment dont like the fizzlybear ( is too big )
Your favorite pinata house - sherbats again, although quackberries, crowlas,... are great too
Your least favorite pinata house - tafflies
Your favorite romance dance - would say Pretztails - those guys are hilarious
Your least favorite romance dance - lickatoads

Oh i have a question, i need to make two mushrooms for one of the sour conversions, but every time i put a toadstool down the Pinatas go ape shit and swarm it like it was hot rox (and subsiquently get sick, stupid Squizzels) before the tinker guy can do his buisness.

I tried putting them behind fences but the ****ING SQUIZZELS JUMP IN THE SECOND I OPEN THE BLOODY GATE FOR THE TINKER GUY!

So can i either, hide the toadstools somewhere the pinatas wont notice OR break squizzels legs?

Something so simple and I didn't even think of it. Funny how so little is considered full in a big garden.

And this is really starting to bug me. What the hell do you feed the flutterfly to make the damn thing green. I swear I have spent probably five hours alone just feeding it different things. Hell, I just spent an hour on this right now. This is an absession from hell apparently. And if it is a fir tree, I am going to kill someone because I can't even get those seeds into the ground.

You will probably have to go with the second option. I hate those squirrels. They steal everything from everyone else and they run back and forth like mad men and get in your way all the time.

This is pretty annoying but funny lol. Happens with the snap dragon too.

What I did was close the toadstools off with a pond, that way only flying ones seem to go for them. Also, as soon as I planted them, I get tinker on the job, he comes pretty quick and gets it sorted.

I fenced them off pretty tight. Bart was able to tinker it from outside of the fence.

i kinda wish there was one major achievement for 100% completition of a book.. seems pointless to get variants apart from achievements and once youve got 20 theres really not much need to continue making them

Not sure if this has been mentioned yet or not, but I got a crazy theory, bare with me on this one.

So I'm out hanging in the garden, and I'm noticing that just about any pinata that wonders through my Thistle patch ends up wanting to beat another pinata's ass. Since I killed off all my snails, this Thistle patch has been going unchecked and pretty much grew it's way up to taking up 1/4 of my garden area. After killing off the Thistle, I noticed allot less fights occured. I wonder if there is a connection between the little electricity bolts I see shooting from the Thistle and the happiness of the pinatas?

Feed it a buttercup flower or (easier) give it a Buzzlegum keeper hat and it'll do it by itself.

hahaa, sorry for the problems but i find squizzles amusing. They run like crazy and steal everything in their path. Anyway, all can be forgotten when you watch their sleep animation.

Sometimes the games really turns into Dead Rising terrain, they all come from the corners of the garden to get their teeth on the candy.

Yes, it makes them sick or angry.

Btw, Do the clukcless work like buzzlegums or goobas in that you can get eggs production and sell them? can you ge tmilk from the moozipans?

I have two specific issues...

My Crowley cannot be sold. Selecting it gives no option to sell and I can't make a sale via the store, either. I don't want to beat the thing to death, but don't particularly need it or want it in my garden. I guess this is a bug.

I can't, for the life of me, get the second Galagoogoo to stay in my garden. Its requirements for residence are eating two moths and four tulips. In one sweep of the garden, the thing might eat two moths or four tulips, but not both. Do I need to trap the thing to get it to stay long enough to eat everything? And how did it happen that the first one stayed so easily?

(I love the Galagoogoo house, by the by.)

Same thing happens to me.. the damn thing comes so late and is so nonchalant about eating the mothdrops, that before you know it, it's day and he's left. Took awhile for my first one to eat the mothdrops too, but at least he eventually did.

I finally bred a pigxie (thanks for nothing, bastards! ;)) and was shocked and dismayed to see them fight with the swananas and pigs (forget their name) -- wtf! Fortunately I took away my tower of sour wolf piece and he showed up real quick and now I have a tamed mallowolf (who I had to sell right away since I'm trying to raise gooba's).

Box the Crowley up and send it to yourself that way you can get it out of your garden but still keep it for later.

From my experience, it seems that there is some memory alloted to visiting animals so that even if they only ate part of the resident requirements in one or two sweeps, they can come back and finish the rest later. In other words, if a Roario only ate 1 Zumbug (he needs two) and left, he can come back another day and only have to eat one more to fill that requirement.

If all else fails, you can always rely on the hunter.

That's definitely how it works. I remember my Cinnamonkey taking his sweet as time like it was yesterday.

And by far, the best house in the game is the Pigeon's.

BEST. HOUSE. IN THE GAME.

Hm. I've seen what you mention as far as requirements (sometimes the thing will enter the garden with the two moths eaten box checked), yet it doesn't seem to be either consistent or permanent.

I had the same problem with the cinnamonkeys. I guess with those guys it was either just dumb luck or persistence.

Ah, well. Thanks for the help.

How many species do you all sustain in your garden at any given time?

I'm level 13 or so, and until I became overcrowded I was doing my best to keep as many species as residents as possible. I've since eradicated my whirlm and sparrowmint population (though some of each species ventured back - I turned the sparrowmints into Candaries).

How should I determine which species to keep? I'm trying to get master romancer with all that become residents before I sell them off, but after that I'm not sure which species to keep. Should I only keep species which will attract/are the romance requirements of other species I want as I advance?

It happened the same to me. It was really hard to get my second sherbat because it would only eat 1 moth and when it goes and comes back the next day that specific requirement is reset.

It may be a bug, though.

If in doubt, box up 2 of every animal and send them to yourself. You'll have a breeding pair ready to go anytime you want.

As for what you should keep around, just pick a goal and start working backwards to get it. You'll figure what you need to do and who you need to keep pretty quickly.

Well, I'm level 18 now and totally enjoying the game. I'm still surprised how addictive Viva Pinata can be and how polished it really is, much more expanded than Animal Crossing in some regards. The only aspect I found "inferior" in comparison was the number of available accessoires when I last looked, but it's something that doesn't really matter in all honesty.

Finally managed to arrange my garden so that I have very little trouble with anything (including my finances), so I'm going to focus on breeding next in order to get that Master Romancer achievement and earn some more money while I'm at it. Here's a picture of it (I'll admit, it's not much):

And here are some random pictures for anyone that doesn't have it yet (not the best quality, but they'll do):

I found out by accident myself, but you don't need to open the gates yourself when the helpers come by. I noticed that, when the gates are closed and they have business to attend to, they can open it themselves and immediately close it when they set foot on the fenced territory. One less thing I had to worry about and it's nice that Rare thought of this.

Im having the same problem. Hes such a pain in the ass. Shows up late, takes a slow stroll around eat maybe one thing and leaves. I have the same problem with the Lion pinata. He comes in eats one pinata and he bails. Dont even get me started on how long it took to get the elephant to eat all the damn fruits and veggies he needed. lol

Is it lotus flowers that you have in the pond ? if that´s the case and you plan on having macaracoons take into account that they will eat them and get sick.

One of 'em is a lotus flower yeah, the other three are those plants that attract newgats. Not really planning on attracting macaracoons, 'cause I'm just playing the game at the moment without advising any FAQ or browsing a website dedicated to the game. I might do it later though, so thanks for the tip.

:lol Sherminator! Nice! Love those pics. I really like the Sherbats. They're cute and odd without loosing their cool.

I'm around level 25 I think, but still on my first garden, it's quit a mess, not very thought out and badly designed. Probably need to restart sooner or later.

Well, don´t know if that beahviour is standard but at least it happened to me and was a pain because the macaracoon ( sent by a friend and later slaughtered by Pester ) got ill becuase of the plant (some kind of allergy) and fell on the ground OVER the lotus plant so everytime i called the doctor and cure it, it inmediately felt sick again, so i had to patch it like 3 times in a row and try to get the pointer over the plant to sell it and stop the sickness.

I kept my first garden on hold and started a new one, farm oriented. It has been really nice to start again and prepare the ground, making space for the goobas, cluckes and all. I plan on develop that second garden and focus on getting lots of money to invest on the first garden.

So what exactly carries over when you start a new garden?

anyone know the advantages/disadvantages or the various gates and fences around?

I hate how seedos opens gates allowing pinatas to break out, and sometimes they just magically escape it seems. Now I just let them all roam free and keep incompatible species seperate.

Everything you have earned, including money and land space. You just start with an empty plot of land.

And also, you can send yourself boxes from one garden to the other, just like sending it to other friends.

I have a gooba on my first garden waiting to be transfered to the new one.

Seedos didn't open any gates unless there were flowers nearby around here. Hence why I made a section in my garden specificially for flowers et al, so that he doesn't come near my rabbit farm (top left corner of the overhead view). Also noticed piñata's sometimes go through gates if you buy fences, seeds, whatever from the store though, must be some minor bug.

Break what's around it and start over. You have to realize these objects are 3D, and this is obviously a failsafe to prevent clipping.

I think my favorite romance dance so far may be the Jameleons (I just did it). I love how the jukebox changes song and their dance changes mid-way through.
