Viva Piñata - The Official Thread

I was having trouble with mating the Swanna and the pig. I am sure that they both have to be mated first. And it also seems that if you feed them the candy from Ivar, a heart can appear above their head but they will not mate until you go through the requirements.

I waited days for chillis, gooseberries and hazel nuts to go rotten. What a really annoying thing to do. I found this out just now but you can tap produce twice with the shovel and it will instantly rot. Can't believe I didn't have to spend hours waiting to sex up that damn pig.

Yeah it took me a while to get the rashberry to mate due to rotted foods, but figuring out how to insta rot them was annoying after all those hours.

I got my 50th achievement finally, and the dragon egg :D

What is the Sour Tower used for?

Just use romance candy or joy candy.

Should I be running with more than one garden? Is having only one garden doing it the wrong way?

No, but you don't understand. The hearts go away, and then they come back after a few minutes (real people minutes).

I think it's either because my garden is too full (which it sometimes isn't)

Or because ruffians come in...

It counts wild pinatas that wander in and out. Sadly.

Yeah residents, wild and sours are all counted.

The only time I've ever lost the hearts is overcrowding. As for speculation it may have something to do with times of the day or moods, I've never seen the hearts disappear on only one of my species, they either all disappear or all reappear and if they disappear I can always make them reappear by selling or smashing a couple of pinata.

I'm running two right now. My normal garden and my swamp. I needed some aquatic pinatas for one of my goals, but didn't want to dig up massive ponds in my main garden (again, having already filled them in because they were annoying me)... so I started a second garden just for water pinatas. It's working out pretty well. I'm thinking about going for a third and maybe more later, in an effort to have a "family" of every type of pinata accross my various gardens. Don't know if I'm willing to smack all the hard dirt in another couple gardens though.

Do you get to keep your upgrades when you start a new garden or do you have to start all over from the beginning?

You keep everything, all of your shovel upgrades, your current level, your money, your current garden space, etc. And you can send pinatas to your gamertag and then open it up in the new garden if you want (or you can just pay the hunter to capture one).

Oh....I've been doing everything in just 1 garden and I'm almost level 30.....

heh....

I actually kinda wish I hadn't read that. It woulda been nice to see a mates dragon and then try to figure out why ours look different, I just love the randomness in this game.

(not saying you shouldn'a posted it, it isn't a spoiler, just saying I wish I still didn't know that) :)

Do you guys recomend having more than one garden? Or, is it entirely possible for one to get through the game and get achievements and level up just as easily with one garden/

I recommend it because it's just more fun than overhauling a single garden. For one thing, you get to have your favorite pinata types, terrains, flowers, garden items, etc. And you get to farm specific things for cash. Also, you can make entire gardens just for a single, difficult-to-get pinata.

Awesome! I'll do that!

SO you're saying that even when wild pinatas and sours come in, the hearts still go away EDIT: along with the fact that they go away when your garden is overpopulated?

goldenpp72 said:
Anything in the garden counts, this includes ruffians, sours and helpers, hell even pinatas that are just browsing.

Doesn't that bother you? The fact that anything makes the hearts go away? I just noticed it now though so.....

EDIT: Oh, I think I misinterpreted your post. You're saying that everything takes up space

Apparently the twin value is down to the ultra-random feat of getting twin pinatas (two in one egg). Can happen with any breed apparently and there's no way to increase the chances.

But yeah i dont get the party values either.

Yesterday i learnt that the pinatas value does increase witht he parties. I thought it was the default value for all but for example the bunnycombs default value is 600 and Usagi III, my bunny that has been at various parties, has a value of 1200. So maybe we or i was looking at the wrong numbers.

are there any guides that show what each accessory does?

Once you purchase each of them, they are unlocked in the encyclopedia. Not always a very detailed info but it helps.

I've been meaning to pick up VP. Anyone seen any good deals online, or in major stores for it?
I know buy.com has $20 off via google checkout on orders $50 and up, but I've already had bad luck with them in the SD card thread.

I can't believe I'm asking this, but is the VP soundtrack available anywhere? It's really grown on me.

Nope, only some mp3 at rares site. No official release yet and seems like it may be never.

Whoa. I was just going to ask about the random egg I found by my mine, but you guys answered my question.

The disappearing hearts is most certainly a result of overcrowding. I'm re-breeding my lower level pinatas, trying to pump them up to Master Romancer and the hearts always disappear when I reach critical mass. I sell off random pinatas that wandered in or cull the populations once I hit seven, then continue.

Anybody bred colored flutterscotches? Am I mistaken, or do the blue, red, etc. ones create white offspring? If you create seven greens via feeding flowers does that count for master romancer?

Made all variations but didnt breed them yet so i´m not sure.

Anyway, yes, you get the master romancer for having 7 in the garden at the same time either by breeding or hunting or anything else.

Did we ever get accurate Viva sales numbers? It can't be selling that bad because there is sure a lot of traffic on their xbox message board:
http://forums.xbox.com/default.aspx?ForumGroupID=20
The number of posts on those boards seems roughly proportional to a title's sales.

Well, maybe the Viva game just provides a lot to talk about.

BTW, as a non-Viva owner, this board seems really weird/funny . . . flutterscotch?

I think viva will do OK worldwide for MS. should have some legs through the holidays and into next year and then Microsoft could bundle it in with Kameo for a sort of "kiddy" bundle with the core unit in lots of places...

Started playing Viva last night and HOLY HELL is it addicting. The transition from training to gameplay is seamless as shit. I felt like I couldn't stop (and didn't want to stop) because shit kept happening like crazy. I pounded some dirt and some worms moved in and I was like "oh, sweet."

But then a snake came.
Then a bird.
Then a mouse.
Then about 50 other vistors all came, within the span of like 35 seconds.

I dunno though... I think I might have messed up. Things were getting kinda wild, with just 1-2 of many many breeds of Pinata, so I tried to settle things down a little bit. I sold my rabbits, snakes, mice, moths, etc. Also sold off most of what attracted them (daisies, etc). I figured I would breed the worms, and then the birds that eat them.

It worked out pretty well, but now I can't seem to get things to pick back up again. I'm not really sure where to go from here. I got my firt garden size upgrade, so I'm most likely just gonna start a new one tonight and let the craziness continue a little longer, before trying to get it all in check :)

How do I get colored Flutterscotches? I need green ones to feed to my toads, but I only have the default white.

Feed them different flowers, they will generally turn into whatever color the flower is. So for green you can feed them watercress.

make them eat a watercress flower i believe

edit: beaten by the viva force

Toadstools are poisonous aren't they? I planted a bunch of them and I think my piñatas ate them because next minute I came back and saw something akin to a mass grave of sick and dying.

Then that prick dastardos came and went on a genocidal rampage, wiping out half my ****ing garden population before the doctor got there.

Within your basic set of flowers there are five colors that you can use to color your flutterscotches. Try to get all five when you're working on bredding them, because something special happens when you do.

It seems it sold less than 40k or something like that. And seems to be doing bad in UK also ( don´t know the rest of Europe ).

Toadstools are poisonous but if you
tinker with them
you will get something quite useful.. for higher level gardeners atleast :)

well not really useful.. but you will need it for something..

if true thats sad to hear... Viva is easily one of the bestest most addicting titles ive ever played..

Thats very sad. If it's any consolation I was able to get a friend to buy the game simply because I said I was gonna name a Fudgehog after him and he now seems to enjoy the game despite his preconceptions. He also says he is going to name a Moozipan after me and make it the most unhappy Pinata ever known and milk me for all my worth. :lol

I myself will be getting the game in a week since its my birthday so there is some hope the numbers will improve if only by a small amount.

I've only played for a few hours and right now the garden is quite a controlled mess. Loads of houses everywhere and a few of each kind of piñata. Can I sell off the kinds I'm not interested in for the moment and simply hunt for new ones if I need them later?

Also, when do I get access to a bigger garden?

Finally, when do I get the pet shop? I want to buy sheep, loads of them!

You can sell any Pinata, new ones will come back as long as your garden still meets the requirements.

Bigger gardens, and access to buy the 'domestic' pinatas comes as you get further into the game (read: level up)

People not into it only seem to care when i mention my Fudgehogs

I think one of the best things about the game is trying to tell people about it, or convince them to buy it.

I am always telling them about the ecology of the pinatas "Buzzlegums can make honey, but they'll fight with your Raisants." "Syrupents will eat your Mousemallows if you don't protect them." "There's even a Chippopotamus!"

You get the strangest looks. It's great.

not to mention a bunch of "riiiights" and "oookay"s lol

I try not to play this too much... every time I do.. well what feels like a short period of time is actually hours and hours.. and thats not good when you have kids... stuff ends up broken like that..
