Viva Piñata - The Official Thread

Every time one of the whirlms shows up I sell it off instantly, "get out of my garden!" Also Tafflys keep persistently coming back, too bad there isn't a "Taffly" block or some way to keep things away you are done with.

Funny thing today my wife starts bugging me about one thing or another and I get pulled away from the garden without pausing, I turn around and see "Broken pinata" message, think "noooooooooo!" and check but it wasn't any of my named pinatas. I'm sure this will happen to other married folks (especially w/ children). The pace of the game never slows down, it's always some fight or some ruffian messing things up. If you're turning your back for even 30 seconds you need to hit start and pause.

So did anyone else name their first two Wirlms after their parents, and then named their first offspring after themselves, only to see one of their parents murdered therby forcing themselves to do the most unholiest of deeds to continue the existance of the Wirlm species in their garden? I still feel dirty weeks later.

I named my Whirlms after friends and promptly saw them eaten. After than I named them after TV characters and whatnot.

I've met all the requirements for the sparrowmints, they've even got hearts over their heads, but still they won't mate. Is there some special environmental requirement aside from building them a house?

Are you manually moving them into each other? They don't do it automatically, you have to select one then move the cursor to the other and hit A.

I just got this game. It's SOOOOOO iddictive. I got it christmas day and have alraedy gotten the play 10 hours acheivment. Don't be fooled by the kiddish exterior. This game is complicated and interesting. Did I mention it was iddicting? :lol

Do I need to be master romancer for rashberrys and swananas to get them to breed? Ive bred each species properly at least once, I've met all the romance requirements, got the mystery house, got lovehearts over their heads, loaded them up on happy candy and they still refuse to get it on.

Bump for great Pigxiejustice - I still cant breed these tikes, any tips?

Heh, just turned this on yesterday. Damn, I can tell I am going to really like this. I got my friend hooked as well(He actually bought his copy this morning and wouldn't put it down)

I found them to be a PITA back when I did it as well. The mystery house gave away the species to mate. Then I couldn't get them to bump uglies to save my life and though mayhaps I was mistaken. Took a peek online and saw that I was correct, so I just kept trying to get them together. Be SURE that their hapiness meter is fully maxed then just keep directing them to each other. You don't have to be a master romancer... at least I wasn't when I did it. I still have my first Pigxie "Wilbur" too. He's all decked out and has gone to every party that I could send him to. He's worth about $30,000 now.

Still Viva related, but a little off-post, I caved and had to look up my last couple missing Achievements and a few variants I couldn't figure out (still have a few more, but I'm not looking unless I get completely stuck). *hangs head* I woulda never guessed 'em, though so I don't feel too bad.

EDIT: If you really have trouble and want a Pigxie let me know. I'll send you a variant of one and you can beat the shit outta it w/ the shovel for giving you such a hard time. :lol I did that with a couple that were breaking my stones (*BONG*... right in the head after they finally joined me).

I found out what I needed, I had to give each one a romance candy first, nothing else would do it but they just bonked first go after eating one each. :D

Haha, I got Quagmire to buy it...or at least these forums and me got him to buy it.

I just looked at the pinataisland website and it has answers for all of these q's and then some, but I saw a lot of spoilers :( I think the experimentation is part of the game so be careful...search for something you're stumped on and stay away from the FAQ

I went to go pick it up this afternoon, but all they had was the version that is in the funky shaped case. I refuse to buy that damn case.......
They sell a different case!??!? What?

Yeah, the weird one is the LE version.

I just recovered my GT from another 360 that I was playing on at the dorm and just lost so many achievements I got from VP. :X Urghhh.

Okay I just started fooling around with this game, and so far it's exactly what you guys made it out to be: gorgeous, addictive, and surprisingly complex.

On that last point: it's criminal this game doesn't have a strategy guide. What's the best Viva site out there to go to for FAQs, tips, hints, and so on all in one place?

pinataisland.info, but as far as I'm concerned it's CHOCK full of spoilers. I would seriously recommend giving the game a good two to three weeks before cracking open any website.

The way I did it was play for a few hours, realize everything I did wrong, erase my save, start over, and I have been playing that way for about 3 weeks. I'm currently at Level 22, a lot of people are a lot higher in shorter time but I can only play 30 mins to an hour here and there.

Alright... I have fallen in love with BarkBarks and I have been decking them out to show my "favorite child" love. However, Sparky needs a nice hat. Is there a top hat that becomes available or is the Mr. Pants hat the slickest one?

Okay, just played an hour and...

OMG.

Damn, everything seems to crazy!!! I can't concentrate on one thing. One second a bunch of tafflys are eating the flowers and the sour snail is getting my snake sick while my bunny is fighting a bird, and then my plants are dying and OMGOMGOMG.

How do you concentrate on so many things?

You don't... you try to pick things that you want to focus on and don't worry about the rest for now. If it's your first garden, things will be crazy and you shouldn't worry too much. That's why people have multiple gardens on here. One to learn wtf they need to do, and the others to specialize or at least build off of past experiences. Just have fun, take notes (or take them off the net) and enjoy the ride. :P

Sadly, that's everyone's experience for the first hour of the game. You'll get used to it and once you learn the ins and outs, things become a breeze which is heightened by how incredibly fun and addictive the game gets.

This is how I'm feeling right now. The game is really appealing, but right off the bat you get completely bombarded with info, tools, shops, new species, etc. I feel like the tutorial is well-structured overall, but the accelerated pacing of it feels somewhat ridiculous - I feel like I'm being pushed through it as fast as possible for no good reason.

Here take this shovel and start clearing out the HEY there's a Whirlm he showed up because you WHOA look here's a guy who gives you seeds try planting a LOOK this bag of seeds will allow you to grow grass WOW this new guy will build homes for your pinatas so that they can YES now you can tell your Whirlms to mate so that HUH now a Sparrowmint has shown up I wonder if he OH now this guy here will give you seeds to NICE you've earned the watering can why don't you try GOSH look at that here's some kind of snake entering the GOOD you've upgraded your shovel so now you can WAIT there's another new species that has shown up and SWEET you've grown some corn now try growing some STOP another new species has arrived to STOP another new species has arrived STOP another new species has arrived CRAP one of my Whilrms is dead what friggin' happened?!

I've been trying to attract Doenuts and I'm starting to think it's impossible. At first making them appear was no problem. Then I put out 10 blackberries and one ate about 4 or 5 and left. "I'll get him tomorrow", I thought. That was it. I never saw a Doenut again since then. I laid out 20 damn blackberries and they won't even show up, let alone visit. It's been about 4 days (in Viva Pinata world or w/e). Anyone got some advice for a noob gardener?

:lol :lol

you nailed it perfectly

Nope. Half my garden is all long grass and I got about 13 or 14 blackberries sitting around.

I'm gonna try gooseberry bushes next. Maybe they'll work better?

Or maybe your garden is too full. Sometimes it takes a while. Kill off some stuff...maybe you have something in your garden that scares them away...

Doubtful on the scaring away. I fired my security guard and i dont see any red things in it. I'll try selling some pinata though.

EDIT: By red things I mean red snails and crows etc.

I just got this today, seems cool. Can yuo eventually control the entire island, or are you stuck in your little box forever?

You get 2 space upgrades, one at lvl 11 and another at lvl 21. You end up with a decent amount of space, but it definitely isn't the whole island.

Also, you can have up to 8 different gardens at the same time.

Theres a "typical" Top Hat ( aka Fred Astaire kind of ). I think its part of one of the accesories pack. I can send you one if you want.

I'm level 22 and so busy with my first garden I have no time to create more, so not really an issue about space. But I read a little bit about why you might want to - there are certain plants that can be poisonous to your pinatas, so you can grow stuff in one garden and send it to yourself to use in another. I think you can do that anyway. Instead of a "poison ivy farm" I'm using sunflowers and chilis. An alternative is to put fences around the poisonous plants, but I think the flying pinatas can still get to them.

When the sunflowers fully bloom (be sure to give them yellow fertilizer three times when you plant them) tap them with your shovel and they will spit out tons of new sunflower seeds.
