Viva Piñata - The Official Thread

Kameo had both free downloads (some of them revamping the entire game) and paid ones, I'm sure it will be the same for any MS game from here on out.

I got a "Cinnamonkey", I love the awesome
fez requirements
, I also don't know how to get a
banana
because I don't see the seeds in the store yet. Maybe Seedos has to throw you one before it appears in the store??

I tried becoming master romancer of Buzzlegums and Raizants at the same time, talk about an exercise in futility. I was calling the doctor out every other minute, even though I put their houses on the opposite sides of my garden.

Still having a bit of trouble getting a Swanana. I have a garden worth over 100k and I've got 26% water and he still only appears on the outskirts and it's a rare visit. Any tips for this one?

I also finally got a Dragonache (blue)! All I need to do is feed him so he'll mature.

EDIT- Of course right after I post this I play and automatically get two Swananas to show up and be residents. Oh well.

I just picked up this game and its great. And this is coming from someone who's never tried animal crossing. very fun game. I was glued to the TV for 4 hours straight last night and i cant wait to get home from work and get some more time on it.

My doenuts won't romance dance event though all the romance requirements are full. There isn't even any heart above there heads! It's been a couple days but nothing... help.

Your garden is full. Sell one or two critter and you'll see the hearts appear.

they might not be happy - try feeding a happy or joy candy. if that doesn't work your garden is probably full, sell some stuff (or send them to yourself so they are in the post office instead of the garden).

Can anyone explain what the big deal about the joy candy is? It was certainly interesting to see the Squazzils run around like they were on drugs.

I usually try to focus on two species at a time, too much going on at once if you try to breed up more than that.

One of the cool things about the game is that you can switch focuses at any time - gardener for 3 or 4 days straight, then breeder for the next 3 or 4, then just simply spend a bunch of time buyign stuff and improving your garden. All while doing this you have to be attentive to alerts and what's going on with your garden, that's the sim part.

I have enough room(like 5 empty spots) and gave both of them joy candies but still nothing... Do they both need to be the same color or something?(doenuts)

edit* nevermind I got it somehow... YAY :D :D

I rented the game out while I went to my girlfriends for a few days and couldn't put it down...

I think I was level 28 when it went back to the rental store. It totally sucked me in. I'll buy it as soon as I can find it cheap.

Somone mentioned the humor in this game, it's everywhere. Barrel of Monkeys, chickens crossing the road, and some of the tips are very funny! Not to mention that the entire game is so well thought out and detailed, there seems to always be something more you can do with it!

Strange thing is though, I'm not sure who the game appeals to. It's too deep and difficult for kids, and teenagers/young adults will shy away from it because it's not cool.

Got the game as a Christmas present. I *love* it, even though I've really only just begun and things go so fast it feels like I can't keep up with everything. Seriously, HOW is this game for kids? Jesus, I can hardly do anything in the garden before 10 other things pop up that need my attention.

Fantastic game -- after being BURNED on PDZ, SFA, etc. it's nice to see Rare do something that isn't complete ****. I'd lost faith but hey, maybe they do still have some competent people. Hope this game gets its due. It's really great.

Well just look at the staff of this game, it's probably true that some people have left Rare over the years, but it's NOT true that they don't have any of their original talent from their glory days:

And touch-sensitive snake heads. ;)

Does anyone know how to check how many hours I've been playing? Theres gotta be a way if its not listed, like using the "Days played" from the Player Stats or something.....

5 empty spots means you have 5% more room left to fill your garden with.

You need more than that. Why? Because sour Piñatas, helpers, new Pinatas, Ruffians, and other things that consist of polygons are always flowing in and out of your garden without your consent (purposely). I believe it's a precaution; the game may crash by due to far too many objects on screen.....

Just my two cents.

Oh, ok thanks..

BUT OMG...

My freaking 360 froze... ugh. I did so much

Man. I hate it when visting Pinata-assholes eat all your plants/produce/other resident pinata, and never become a resident themselves (despite fufulling all the requirements). I watched a Mallowolf eat at least 5 of my Rashberries without ever turning into a resident!

I dont think it's a space issue, becuase I'll have pinata ready to romance, and Whirlms and various insect pinata will constantly join my garden. But random Pinata like Sweetooths, Newtgats, Bonboons and Mallowolfs will leech dozens of flowers/fruit for days.

Does that happen to anyone else? is it definitely a space issue?

Mallowolf's eat Pigxies, not rashberries.

Do you know how to make a Pigxie? I really have no idea. Someone said mate a Swanana with a Rashberry but.....

Sour Mallowolves eat Pigxies. Tamed ones are attracted by Rashberries.

And you're correct. To make a Pigxie, you cross breed a Swanana and a Rashberry after romancing each species once.

In what type of house? And how is one supposed to know this without using the internet? I don't think many know that you can even cross breed Piñatas. People who reviewed the game didn't -- in fact, people who reviewed the game (maybe besides John) probably didn't even play the gmae for more than 6 hours.

Oh and also, is there an achievement for becoming master romancer for more than 20 species? 40? 50? All?

Just want to know if I can stop trying to get the award for every species.

I think 20 is the last one regarding master romancer but if you want to level up as much as possible you´re gonna need to keep earning them from every specie.

Are there Pinata that refuse to come into your garden unless you're at a level higher than 50?

i dont know, i think i´m level 52 but i havent seen or have visits from a lot of species yet. Not sure if its because of requirements only or because of the level reached.

I hate to start this but...

my garden is broked. I try to load my first main garden and my 360 always freezes a few seconds after everything loads up, anyone done any research on this yet? I couldn't find much.

This has happened to me too once (the game locked up while auto saving and it got stuck that way). The only solution is to create another garden unfortunately. It sucks, but you'll keep your money and stuff so its not like starting all over from scratch.

You might try asking on the xbox.com forum or pinataisland.info...another thing might be to try disconnecting from XBL and try again, maybe it is stuck trying to get at something online.

My garden I'm constantly tearing things down to make room for new houses and pinatas so I don't think it would be that big of a deal besides the emotional investment. The one thing which would be a pain would be trees, it took me a while to get a good set of trees set up (now I have Fir, Apple, Monkeynut, Nightshade, etc).

Check your journal, as soon as you see a pinata for the first time it will have all the info you need to get them in your garden.

Ouch. And I was just about to jump back in and play this thing through. Maybe I should wait for a patch.

Can someone tell my why all the text in the game is written with Comic Sans (or a font very very smiliar to Comic Sans)? It looks horrible. Also, why am I forced to play the game in Swedish? The only way to get it in English seems to be to change in the system settings.

Apart from that it's a real great game :)

Look at your journal and it should tell you the visiting and residency requirements of any pinata thats shown itself outside your garden. For the duck, to have him visit, you have to grow corn and to have him be a resident, you have to feed him bread. I just got one last night so his requirements are fresh in my mind.

The ducks have one of the more difficult minigames I've encountered so far...

I have a hard time getting the second of a new species to appear but I got lucky with my cinnamonkeys. Sometimes I have to use the hunter's service.

I wonder if there's a way to get Pets to appear? You pretty much have to buy and breed them right?

duk said:

Ducks.

You need a lot of water, I think it's 15% of the garden, that's 15 squares in the garden area part of the journal. But it might be 20.

If you want to make it a resident, you need to feed it bread.

Spiders, I think you need 4 Tafflys in the garden to attract one, but I'm not sure.

If you have seen them, their requirements can be found in the journal.

Ok so ya.. I got this game 3 days ago and I've clocked 13 hours already. I know thats not a lot, but I've only been home maybe 15 hours the whole 3 days LOL.

This game is absolute genius, and it brings back all those pleasant Nintendo memories from years ago. Not only that, its beautiful, perfectly thought out, and challenging to boot. I mean I thought at first this game was a little kiddy, but then you get to about level ~15 or so and you find yourself hitting a wall.

I had to think outside the box and try some combinations and low and behold the game BLEW open. Money tricks, cross-breading then feeding different foods for super bonus was unthought of when I first turned this game on.

All I can say is.. if you own a 360, you have to buy this game. If you don't own a 360, go to someones house that does and see this game in action. No, not the 40 minute tutorial.. find someone about 5+ hours in and you'll be blown away.

I found out a couple things I never knew yesterday about the thumbsticks:

If you click down the left one, it speeds up and slows down the movement. This can be critical when you need to zoom across your garden to whack something that's invading.

If you click down the right one, it shows you a neat overhead map. I thought it was nice for visualizing what the garden looks like from above and how it's organized.

I got a diggler, can someone explain why my
mine
suddenly vanished?? I didn't get anything, spend a ton of money on the diggler and the mine, and suddenly it's gone. The diggler says something like "no work available" and then just goes home.

I got a Swanana visit, I'm at L27 now I think and I have a huge pond.

i bought Viva on friday.

today i am at 48 achivements, and i can pick up master romancer after another few hours of play. and then all i'm missing is 50 hours of play time.

i still have so much to do and see :lol

holy crap! How many hours do you have in???

I've been trying to get the achievement where you have to
direct the maracoon to "find romance candy"
but every time I do it, I never get the achievement. Does he actually have to "find" it and bring something back, or do I just have to click on the icon to automatically get the achievement.

Besides, what does the
"find romance candy"
do anyways? I've done it a few times but nothing has happened....He just runs off, and then comes back....
