Viva pinata: Trouble in paradise. For or Against? (hype thread)

The original viva pinata launched in november of 2006, soon after gears of war and was met with very mediocre sales, while it saw a boost in december it fell off afterwards. Once the title became more budget priced and saw a short lived bundle in europe it managed to net a respectable figure in the long run, but with so little hype going into the sequel, we should all be doing what we can to make sure it succeeds!

First off is to shed your manly fears of this colorful world, under the cute exterior is a very deep and even morbid title. For those of you uncertain try the original games demo and even consider paying the 20 dollar entry fee for the full new game, if not wait for the demo that is supposed to hit for the sequel before it releases. For the tough guys, tell them you can make a baby pinata have sex with their mother then sell off the kin for slave money, while creating a race of mutant deformed pinatas.

Once you've discovered how foolish it is to discredit viva pinata, convince everyone you know who might like it to give it a shot. So few of these types of games exist anywhere and they should be given special treatment. The game is rumored to be launching at 40 dollars but it might be 50, and will be launching near a DS counterpart as well, so go buy these games!

Release date: September 2nd
Price: 39.99 currently but expect a raise to 49.99
Demo: Coming soon!

Facts

The game has more than 30 new species of pinatas and expands on the originals variation system. So over 100 species and hundreds of variations including triple the amount of rare 'wildcard' versions.

Will have the obvious expansions like new items and such, my favorite so far being a disco floor!

2 Player offline co op and 4 player xbox live co op!

Photo taking, photos taken can be uploaded to a rare hosted site and integrates a new system, key words are saved into pictures you take, so if you take a picture of a bird pinata, searching the word bird could filter pictures based on bird shots, etc.

The ability to leave the garden and explore new areas to trap pinata, like sand or winter areas. You can also add sand/snow elements to gardens.

You can now have about twice the amount of content in the gardens as you could before, making customizing more robust.

Mini games will be included in some form, like racing or fashion shows, no clue how many.

You can now quick cycle between pinatas hitting the bumper buttons, making management easier.

Pinatas now have more advanced AI routines and more things they can do.

Supports vision camera in order to use pictures/cards/etc of pinatas, you can scan them into the camera and the pinata will appear in your garden, anything done using this method can be earned without the camera.

Now includes a 'sandbox' mode that is more laid back and has infinite money and resources, so you can just create a dream garden without hectic challenges.

Romance game has been altered adding a new camera view and the ability to earn items that increase your chances of having twins or rare versions of the pinata, time is a factor too.

If anyone thinks something is missing feel free to add, but any gamer with a desire for these very rarely released types of games should have this at the top of their list. I have my avatar pinatafied for support of this wonderful franchise. And no, I don't work for rare or.. any game related company.

For!

I'm down. I've purchased the other two VP games on the system, I might as well get this one. Admittedly, I'm less hyped for this one than I was the first.

Definitely not day one though. I need to save money for other games.

Dude, screw what's manly. I like good games. Therefore, I love viva pinata. If lovin it is wrong, i don't wanna be right!

Why are you less excited? Just viva'd out? The sequel seems to be fixing a lot of the problems the original had, I do hope that online co op makes it.

LOOOOVED the first one, but I'm neutral towards the sequel... seems like pretty much the same game with just a few new pinatas and locations?

Edit: And minigames. Ugh. Any sequel that adds "we now have minigames!" to its list of features I'm very wary of...

FOOOOOOOOR!!

Loved the first one. Unless this drops while I'm playing something else hardcore, I'll get it day one.

Definitely for, especially at $40. (goldenpp, why are you expecting a price raise? just curious)

Also, gamertag is DuckRacer1.

I was just getting a hankering to replay the original so this will be coming at a perfect time for me. It does seem like a little bit of "more of the same" but since it's coming for a budget price I'm back on the hype train.

If you read the fact sheet I posted you'd know that isn't true, not all has been revealed yet either. being a person who enjoyed the chao gardens in the SA series im very happy that rare is venturing into things like pinata racing, I think I heard something about mini golf too?

Edit: I think the 39.99 price is an error, the original launched at 50 so I am expecting the same for this one, but I hope i'm wrong of course.

Twice the content in gardens huh? That's a good thing. Will you be able to have more animals in a garden at a time? I felt I couldn't get enough pinatas in a garden at any one time in the first game. Anyway, I got addicted to the first one and it's about time I got back into it with the sequel.

In other words....FOR!

I love me some Viva Pinata! The first game was so addiciting and now with the sequel and a DS version, man it is the year of the Pinata. Snow and desert pinatas too, oh man, so hyped....FOR!

I'm buying it. True co-op this time around should make it more fun to play with my girlfriend. (Last time around I spent the bulk of the time watching her play, but I did get the most "challenging" achievements myself) I'm curious to see what you can really do with the "Pinata Vision".

All I remember hearing thus far is rare saying 'over 2/3 the amount of content in the garden at one time' so i'm not sure if that includes pinatas.

I just felt that for such a customizable title it didn't let you go too far with garden content.

indeed, but so few even know it's coming in a month almost, i'm hoping the game sells a lot this time as we rarely get second chances for these gems.

the game might not hit pc this time sadly, i'm pretty sure the first game was a huge flop on pc and they probably don't want people torrenting it up again.

But who knows.

The RRP in the UK is listed as £39.99, £5 cheaper than most 360 titles, so you should be able to pick this up for less than the price of most new games. Amazon and Game are already doing pre-orders at £29.99.

Anyway, I really enjoyed Viva Pinata but I just can't see myself putting down a lot of money to own the game. I put in a lot of hours into the original but at the same time it does feel like an XBLA game that has been over-produced. Perhaps after a few months when it can be found cheap on ebay I'll jump in but until then there is just a lot of stuff on the horizon that I just want more.

I'm in the process now of finishing all of the achievments for the 1st one, about 80% there now so I'm looking forward to this. In addition to increasing the object limits I really hope the interface is streamline somewhat, way too many screens to go through with the same annoying shopkeepers just to buy stuff. And maybe it's just me but it annoys the hell out of me when they shake the vending machine as I'm browsing for something. What the fuck is that even for other than making me dizzy? Why can't I turn some of that shit off if I want to.

Same thing happened here.

rare claims the system was streamlined and also has cutscenes to help ease things in more, but I haven't seen anything on it in videos.

Yeah, the shop interfaces were horrible. Took the shine off the first game.

The first one was an unexpected surprise for me as I usually dont go for games that look like this...
aka kiddie
.

I did have plenty of fun with it but i'll most likely skip this in exchange for one of the RPGs as it's a time sink in it's own right.

How can anyone be against a sequel that takes a great game, makes it even more fun, fixes bugs, adds major content (including co-op which is a big boon to virtually any lovebird gamers!), and features PENGUINS!?

... and to boot, launches either 10 or 20 dollars below the standard pricepoint?

It's a wonderful thing that a great game with such poor sales still gets a sequel. It's good time to be in love with gaming.

FOR!

For.

This game, and it's predecessor, are beautiful and fun (hopefully) to play. Here's praying for a quick Australian release.
