VLC UWP submitted to Xbox One store

Pirate movies arrr

supports UPnP and network shares browsing, support for HTTPS and adaptive streaming, hardware decoding, and numerous codecs
Sounds like the ideal solution for home rips to me. To compare, it's the same reason why some people prefer a hacked 3DS/Vita so they don't have to switch cards. Just rip and forget.

Don t understand the VLC hate. Lots of encoding options n stuff. Doesnt mess up colors like WMP.

It's a garbage player.

Seeing this, I realize it would be interesting to see Kodi or Moonlight UWP ports or branches.

Xbox already supports Plex, which is great. I fear the moment when it will be updated to UWP though, since apparently those can't be snapped. :/

VLC is a big win for xbox in my books is a great video/audio player, lightweight etc. Works fantastically on iPad to circumvent Itunes and allow lots of legal content otherwise that needs converting etc, plus allows very easy copying of files via a local website it creates, VLC is the best media player in my opinoin

I was reading yesterday Kodi is now on the Windows Store, not a proper UWP yet but they are hoping that will come in the future.

Releasing Kodi on the Windows Store for desktop can be considered a first step in the right direction, and we will certainly try to get there eventually… making the circle back to the XBOX would complete our journey where it all started.

Why are MKVs so popular

It is a good container and happens to be the container that all the movie and tv rippers use to release content. VLC will even unpack RAR files on the fly so this is as close to KODI as Xbox One will get until it makes its as a UWP app as well.

I feel like this is alot less important now, the Xbox One can already play pretty much every common file type. If it supports media streams though it could be handy for when press conferences are exclusive to certain platforms.

Finally, the media player on the Xbox has slowly turned into hot garbage since a few major updates ago. Codecs stopped working and subtitles are still very rudimentary as is. Hell, they ruined the photo section of the player by making everything above a certain resolution stay zoomed in automatically, and took away zoom control beyond a certain point..

Hopefully this lets me avoid converting a lot of my stuff before playing it.
