VLTTP: Conker Live & Reloaded

I never played the original on the N64 and I bought the game when it became backward compatible on the 360 earlier this year(?). I was bored and I wanted to play something new so I started a new game of Conker today. I'm not really far (just passed the bit in the barn with all the haystacks jumping around) so I can't really comment on the gameplay but holy freacking Jesus this game looks great. :O The lighting, the textures, all the effects on the screen, it's beautiful.

I love the humour too, when the giant haystack first appear the last thing he says is "Time to jump around... aimlessly." :lol

Was this game loved by NeoGAF?

I loved that game on the N64...

The Xbox version is pretty much the same but well.. thats not a bad thing at all.. the game is still effing funny

The multiplayer part is kinda meh though.. it has free Xbox live but nobody plays it so its pretty much useless

It's a Rare game. It's not allowed.

I only ever played a bit of the N64 version and I honestly couldn't get past the frame rate. What's the 360 emulation like, does it all move smoothly?

oh yeah and i hate the fact that you cant play the PAL version over the VGA Cable.. I asked the rare guys about this and they responsed that i have to plug it into a normal television with 50 hz support... (and i was asking for an update on that matter.. the game supports 60 hz damnit)

I didn't like the adventure part of this game... I only played the multiplayer bit like non stop for weeks on end. So good.

I was a fan of the N64 original, and I did play most of Live and Reloaded. The visuals are "holy-shit awesome", but I have to give the nod to the N64 version, exclusively based on the needless censorship in the Xbox version.

Wow, how did you come to like the multiplayer? Jesus, the premise is ingenious, but it is damn impossible to fire your projectile weapon with any degree of accuracy.

I played this on 360, of course, so it could just be a lag problem. Characters are just so small and moving around so quick, and on top of all of that, the crosshair cannot even accomodate the fast tedious action.

All I know is that the N64 version had awesome multiplayer and somehow they made it too serious on the Xbox and took out the fun and all the variety.

Well I mostly played as a Sneeker but I never found it hard to kill with a gun of any kind... All it took was learn how it fired and you got used to adjusting how you approached an enemy accordingly. It wasn't as if there was a mass of different weapons to learn either.

It made me absolutely furious at the time.

The original N64 Conker had the best multiplayer I've played on the console...it was so incredibly fun. They axed it all out on the Xbox version.

Damn them.

Conker Live & Reloaded is one of my best games in terms of everything especially on the graphics side on the original Xbox, even when i tried it on my 360 it gives you the look and feel of a next-gen game, the movies and games that were parodied in conker are hilarious, saving private ryan segment was the best of them. :lol

Loved the N64 version. Wanted to love the XBOX version, but the controls in the N64 version were so much better. Also, they didn't censor out the profanity in the N64 version.

I own the Xbox version and it was worth playing through, but the controls were a little unresponsive for a platformer. Felt kind of...Rough. I did have some good fun with the multiplayer, and I think the franchise needs another shot on the 360 for sure.

conker was th elast game I played on the xbox1. yeah, the graphics and gameplay were amazing. I never too much got into the MP, but Sp was phenomenal...sadly, never finished it tho...

If it wasn't for the horrible censorship (It's a freaking M rated game that was mostly uncensored on the freaking N64. When you censor the word twat you have a serious problem. Of course this is new Rare so who's surprised?) and the fact that they brought the voice actors back (they did sub par jobs for the remake. It sounded like they were phoning it in instead of giving it feeling like the N64 version) then it would have been even better than the original.

Really great game..but I still wonder why it was censored on the Xbox, when the N64 version wasn't... F*ck..I can't accept..but sh*t? ...The Great Mighty Poo song/boss went from being one of the best boss/songs ever (N64 version) to sh*tty no pun intended -Xbox version) ... :p

That and the constant loadings and the kinda weird multiplayer mode....

My friends and I loved the multiplayer. We played that day-in and day-out for a whole summer. We even got the top rank on Xbox Live (thats when we quit).

You played as a Sneeker? One of my main motivations was to eradicate your kind. You sneekers were so cheap.

True. Uncensored big mighty poo FTW!

It's a rare game. It looks phenomenal but has kind of crappy gameplay. The multiplayer was intended to be the focus but it's some of the lamest most boring multiplayer in any xbox game. If they had only kept the N64 multiplayer modes in the game I would have kept my copy. Instead it was one of only 2 xbox games I bought and had rid myself off within 30 days.

Amen, Conker was my favourite game on N64 simply coz of the humor and the multiplayer, me and my mates had countless days of pwning squirrels, my favourite was the beach game back in the day. We tried picking up live and reloaded once upon a day but it just wasn't the same, so sad because i watched all the previews and it looks so good but playing it just wasn't fun.

One of the best games I've played. The single player had variety galore in the missions, a great sense of humor, and freaking amazing music.

Must. Get. Mp3: Rock. Solid.

One of the most amazing songs off any video game soundtrack.

PS. I own or owned the Xbox version, but first played it on the N64. The censoring of Great Mighty Poo was a great mighty disappointment. :(

I was (and, to some degree, still am) a huge Rare fan back in the N64 days, and I hated Conker's Bad Fur Day. Mostly unfunny ("Hey, let's have characters say '****' a lot. That's funny, right?") and the gameplay was pretty sub-standard. I tried giving it another go on the Xbox, but I think I hated it even more despite the awesome graphics.

Loved it back then..I couldn't belive it was on the N64.. I was like... :O!!! :lol
Rare always made great soundtracks..and they still do..kinda.. :p

I got the Original N64 version new for $7.99 a couple of years ago and it's still one of my favorite games. I hope you enjoy CLaR.

Same thing for me.. This game's graphics were advanced for its time too. This game was amazingly polished compared to some other Rare games *cough* perfect dark *cough*

I loved the humor and the diversity of gameplay too. There's not enough humor in videogames...

I played the single player on the N64 and thoroughly enjoyed it.

As for the multi.....

On the XBOX this game is a perfect example of how not to do a UI. The screen is such a cluster****, with boxes and gamertags all over the place. Other than that, the game is alright. I played alot of multi on the N64 version, and it was fun. The XBOX version has even more maps, vehicles etc....

The more I play there's one thing that really surprises me, the soundtrack. It's really good! The music during the haystack/robot boss fight is incredible. Even if the game is goofy the music has a "serious" feel to it.

Did some screen searches to see what you meant...

It was cluttered, and the HUD was awful, but if you went into the multiplayer knowing it wasn't going to be anything extra-ordinary it turned out to be a lot of fun.

Thanks, I was actually thinking of breaking the game out to get a shot to back up my point. When me and my buddy tried it, we had the classic "What could they possibly have been thinking" reaction. We took it in to the game studio where he works to show it to some of the head design guys so we could all cry over it.

It's a shame, because my buddy and I spent many nights playing the N64 version, but we left that one alone.

Still a fantastic single player adventure, assuming it's aged reasonably well.

I wish they'd have given you the option to play single player with the weapons controlling N64-style. "Arming" and strafing with something simple like a bat felt remarkably janky. It probably worked better with the guns, but the game was beatable without it before.

Dude that's some incredibly cheesy Eurotrance right there :/

I played multi all summer long. Tons of hour long sneeker vs. long ranger matches. Man, I hate me some sneekers!

If you play it though, be forewarned, tons & tons of glitches are ruthlessly exploited.

I read up on the censoring issue and apparently some stores would've refused to stock the game if left uncut.

I bought this at Circuit City last week for $12. I haven't opened it and won't for awhile because I have a lot of other games to play and have played through the N64 version. Definitely a lot of fun and very hilarious. It moves kind of slow, though. Excellent story.

This game is the closest thing MS have to Ratchet as a franchise. It'll be interesting to see if Rare are working on a sequel.

I loved it on N64. I think in a way the humour overshadowed the amazing gameplay. The whole structure and the amount of variety was just fantastic. So much better than the usual Rare collect-em-ups. One of the greatest 3D platformers and the music in the club IS incredible. :D And considering it came out of the N64 soundchip!!

So is the general feeling that the Xbox game isn't as good as the N64 one? It's funny, the only games I've really kept my N64 for are Conker and Blast Corps.

They should make another online game in this series just rebalance it better and make it a download

Excellent idea. Too bad it probably won't happen :/

And that picture FoxHimself posted still looks amazing after these couple of years.
