RIP

seems like alot of voice actors in Japan seem very down before quitting/death etc

very sad, is there like a union for them over there?
Like most jobs where the supply of employees is much higher than the demand for them, all the potential employees get treated like dirt.

The ones that break through and gain super popularity get treated like royalty though. Some even branch out to become anime/manga/game writers and producers.

It sounds like she didn't have her illness properly taken care of... I wonder if her work put way too much pressure on her to keep going despite not being well since the beginning of the year. The worst part is this probably could have been prevented. :(

Japan's looking to raise awareness of the illness that took Matsuki Miyu's life. Minaguchi Yuko, a fellow voice actress, writes on her blog that tonight, TBS will be doing a special program on CAEBV on News 23.

I'll do my best to translate the news article on the net. It's not an exact word for word but the general gist, slightly paraphrased at times.

According to this news article, it's not very well known even amongst the doctors, and it took over a year before they found out what exactly it was that made Matsuki sick. It was her wish that the cause of her death be made publicly known, in order to raise the awareness of its existence.

According to her parents, it was in 2013 that Matsuki first started feeling unwell. She would suffer fevers as high as 39 Degrees Celsius at night. When she visited her hometown last year for New Year, she complained of fatigue caused by swollen lymph nodes on her neck. Despite having undergone numerous checkups at the hospital, and even checks to see if it was cancer, the test results indicated that there was nothing out of the ordinary.

It was only in June last year that they suspected that it could be CAEBV, after which she was referred to a specialist in the city. She booked an appointment for the 2nd of July, but she was hospitalised on the 30th of June after she complained of having difficulty breathing. She received anti-cancer drug treatment and was subsequently discharged in September. However, her condition worsened two weeks later and she passed away on the 28th of October.

Her father then found out through her friends that Matsuki had said, "When I'm well, I want to write a memoir and let everyone know about CAEBV. I want to help save as many lives as I can." which prompted him to announce the cause of her death in December of last year. The response was huge. The illness was introduced on many news sites, and it received a lot of attention on the net. The website of the group "SHAKE", a patient advocacy group looking to disseminate info on CAEBV and have it classified as malignant disease*, also saw a huge increase in traffic.

Her parents wondered why they were not able to correctly diagnose the illness despite several trips to many of the major hospitals in Tokyo. Concerned about the delay in diagnosis, they sought to have CAEBV classified as a malignant disease*. If classified as such, they hope that it would help reduce the cost of the exam required to identify the illness, which could cost up to 30,000 yen. In addition, they hope that it would raise awareness between doctors, which would increase the chances of it being identified while it is still at an early stage, and that they would then be able to start treatment early.

The rest of the article highlights some of the people who have also lost a loved one to CAEBV due to the difficulty they had in identifying the cause.

*I am not sure if this is the best word for it
