Vox Video: Detox is bs

Your kidney and liver are pretty good at detoxing, thank you very much.

And they'd appreciate if you didn't try to unnecessarily fuck with them and give them work to detox all that extra shit you're gorging on to... uh.... detox.

Detox might not be legit but I'm never gonna get cancer cause I only eat alkaline foods. Cancer cells
and normal body cells
can't live in an alkaline environment.

Detox no, but doesn't mean I want to stuff myself with a shitload of chemicals that fuck with my hormones, give me cancer, or fuck with my metabolism.

These kinds of threads are always among the most difficult to find the jokes in.

Listen, you don't understand.

I could eat all the shit in these cups, but somehow shoving them in water and drinking that is infinitely more effective because reasons.

No it's more effective because you aren't eating it or anything else lol. 0 calories " I lost weight !!!". Lol .

Also I own a fitness club and take all this shit unfortunately just to tell people about it .

Latest was Garcinia cambogia , the one dr oz is being sued for . Guess what it works great! Gives you a fucking stomach ache and makes you not want to eat.

Let's invent more diet pills. Apparently if you get sick and can't eat that's a big plus. Some kind of poisonous plant like wormwood should do.

Or I've been meaning to rejuvenate the old tapeworm diet from the good old days "100 percent natural". Huh? Huh ? Anyone?

you wouldnt say its bullshit if it cured YOUR abdomininal cancer and hepatitis bacteria.. just saying. if you havent been there, dont talk shit about it, "Vox".

I don't know about all the claims here, but I do know drinking water with lemon in it can help with kidney stones (the acidity of the lemons or whatever). My mother's dr. Told her to do so and its been helping out. Everything else I'm not sure of.

I'm glad to see the media narrative slowly shifting to being correct on this topic. Previously, you'd see occasionally articles calling out individual "detox" regimens, products, and pyramid schemes... but then they'd also make sure to cautiously bring in an unqualified crackpot to provide endorsement. This is because general journalists without knowledge or experience in scientific reporting tend to default to a "the truth must be somewhere between both sides!" narrative.

It's nice to finally see some articles trickle in with reporting closer to what's been obvious to anyone paying attention: All detox is an unequivocally a scam with no scientific evidence or even plausibility.

A co worker today told me he bought some type of super water that is 4 times more absorable than normal water.

I didn't know what to say.

I'm seeing deionized water being sold. Kinda removes most of the innate benefits of water.

eating healthy is the only proper detoxification

Which is probably why this stuff works for some people. Worst case scenario, following these detox diets means eating more fruits and vegetables and drinking more water, which is probably a major step up from their normal diet.

You joke but people are doing that. http://www.today.com/health/iowa-woman-tries-tapeworm-diet-prompts-doctor-warning-6C10935746

Did a "cleanse" in 2006 or so. Didn't do much (obviously) but two weeks of eating very healthy food is a good thing regardless of any other benefits.

There are certainly worse health trends than eating/drinking variations of water, fruits and vegetables.

As always, gullible people get milked hard, but hey. As long as they don't drink cucumber water instead of getting cancer treated or something...

Thank god for these articles

I had to do a fundraiser last year and my team wanted to sell "Detox water" which was just water with chunks of fruit in it. My jaw slowly fell as they explained how adding fruit to water takes out all the bad chemicals from the body and detoxifies your system. I shut that idea down.

Yeah i had a gf a few years ago who would do a cayenne pepper detox, I was like do whatever you want, but that's pretty dumb. Just eat healthy and your kidneys and liver will do the rest.

My one big issue with this video is I'm into the detox hype and this video fails to prove detoxing isn't helpful.

They illustrate that over the counter detox companies don't put any research into their methods and that medically administrated detox methods work.

Their attempts to say detox isn't necessary because our bodies already work to do that is immediately countered by their own argument that our bodies need to be treated when alcohol or drug consumption overcome their limits.

All this tells me is that I should determine what exactly is I'm trying to treat and make the best educated guess on how to deal with it and monitor it.
In this case I'm interested in seeing if there is credibility to eating more alkaline foods to balance out the more acidic foods I over eat to balance out my body.

I'm pretty sure that happens automatically in your stomach. As they said, our body is not stupid.

Perhaps you should read the article: http://www.vox.com/2014/12/31/7438565/detox

Or ask your doctor if this stuff is a scam or not.

You have one side of the food industry killing you with junk food, and the other obliterating your wallet trying to counteract it with voodoo.

I didn't know what to say.

You should have asked if he enjoyed paying 4 times more than normal water. Which is usually free most places, so not even 4 x a cost.

Your body produces chemicals that balance out acidity already. Food is hit with quite a lot of Bicarbonate shortly after leaving the stomach.

Tell him he got ripped off and he should have gotten salt water. Why salt water? Well because the substance is liquid it clearly has more water than salt which means your being hydrated faster than your being dehydrated.

Some personal trainer was trying to get my mother to detox, it's so irresponsible. Just eat healthy, put in the work and stop trying to game the system.
