Wada: FFXIII might not be released in 2008. reason: DQIX

As long as we get a USA release of DQ9 in Winter alongside FF4 remake then I will be fine.

Give me FFXIII and FF versus XIII in 2009.

Wada - Releasing FF versus XIII and FFXIII would just be bad business. Sinking more money into development and releasing them at some arbitrary date where the PS3 has a install base as large as the ps2 is GREAT business, however! Glad you aren't running things over here, chump.

Good one, I laughed a bit.

Say, wasn't Yoichi Wada the president of Square before the merger? Hmmmm...

Wow what a thoughtful point, Wada has been making every decision for the company without any accountability for years then!! Right, presidents get to do whatever they want to ... right???

What I don't get is...why?
I mean...
One is a high-profile sequel, that will be released on a handheld and will cost at least $40...
One is a high-profile sequel, that will be released on a console and will cost at least $60...

Not to mention that the release dates are kinda far from each other, unless Square-Enix was dumb enough to release both a week from each other...

Is like Nintendo because they just released Super Smash Bros. Brawl..they are not going to release Mario Kart, or any other "big" game till next year..

They could release DQ during June-July and FF during November-December..

Because there's previous data to indicate that if you put DQ and FF even somewhat close, DQ will eat FF like a hamster eating its young. FFXIII has enough going against it saleswise without adding to the problem.

Evidence of this while they're on two totally different platforms?

What were the sales of FFVI, VII, VIII, IX, X and XII in Japan?

Looks to me like FF13 is getting Crisis Core'd. By the time it comes out it won't make that much of an impact.

Well, people who cared about FF13 because they thought it could "save" the system without any support from an otherwise favorable software situation were dommed to disappointment no matter what happened.

People who care about FF13 because they want to play it certainly have a good reason to be disappointed that they'll still be waiting, but should at least take heart in the possibility that they'll get a good, uber-polished (and, conveniently enough, economically successful) game the way PSP owners got FF7:CC.

there are even odds that we wont get DQ4 released in the states

No there aren't. It is already well into the process of localization. I'm so tired of this DQ chicken-little business.

Yes. That's because you didn't freaking read the thread.

You really think the DQ/FF fanbase in Japan cares that they're on different platforms?

If anything, the different platforms thing only hurts FF more. Most Japanese gamers have a DS. They won't have to buy one for DQIX.

Many Japanese gamers will, however, have to buy a PS3 for FFXIII. If they came out near each other I can comfortably predict what the outcome would be.

Plus DS's userbase has been fortefied with SE RPG fans through remakes and numerous quality spinoffs. PS3 hasnt.

I think we all knew that FFXIII wasn't coming this year.
(And I see no need to lambast the PS3 fanbase over that, all but the most puerile of them never claimed it would)

No. We're currently playing LO.
Shows just how desperate they are.

Unlike most users, I do read threads before replying.. :p

Still, doesn't make sense..simply because they release Final Fantasy and Dragon Quest spin-offs/ports/remakes nearly every year..
They move those franchises from hardware to hardware...with no problems of their "prospective buyers" not buying a totally different console from a totally different hardware provider..
And now they don't want to release both games during the same year, because they "care" about them? :p

In any case, FFXIII has always been a 2009/2010 game to me..DQIX or not..

Dragon Quest IX dwarfs White Knight Story in importance and focus.
WKC is far more ambitious in scope you would have to admit. DQ9 will be mighty fine but WKC is a PS3 quality RPG, probably one of the more costly ones as well.

I typed a long response but it got eaten. Suffice it to say DQ is more popular than FF and everytime they've directly competed FF has gotten the bum's rush. See DQIVr vs FFIVr for a very recent example. DQVII vs FFIX for another, DQV vs FFV, DQIV vs FF3 for others.

Why in the world would I have to admit something so asinine as that? I played Level-5's PS2 games, and while Dark Cloud 2 in particular was pretty excellent, none of them have been Dragon Quest tiered in quality. I mean, it may gall some of you fellows to know that a DS game is going to massacre this very precious "PS3 quality RPG," but Level-5 knows what games are buttering its bread.

Well, I was trying to be generous. I guess it's also possible you read the thread and didn't actually understand the words contained therein.

Square-Enix is a publically traded company. That means they report results on both a quarterly and fiscal-year basis, and that their performance is measured in part in terms of steady growth period-over-period.

Releasing two of their tentpole titles in one year, and then none the following year, will cause a large dip in revenue for that following year. In order to avoid this, S-E (like any large, publically traded software publisher) distributes their AAA titles as evenly as possible to keep their revenue even.

Note that this reason is in itself a sufficient reason to release FFXIII in 2009, but that doesn't imply necessarily that there aren't others. It could be that the game simply won't be ready before 2009, or that S-E would want to wait for 2009 so that the PS3's install base was larger. My personal guess is that both are true, but nonetheless the game would still get pushed back to 2009 if neither was true.

And especially in how many actual cash yens it will put in Level 5's pocket. :lol

Not surprising, just annoying. DQ trash impeding FF releases enrages me.

I'm calling Wada and ordering that FFXIII be delayed another year now, just to spite you.

Why? Does Sony pay more to develop a new IP than Enix does to develop DQ games?
I would assume that WKC is costing a shitload more to make than a DS game. Also, aren't Enix also heavily involved with the development of DQIX?

Oh i agree, the game will have a load of polish when its finally released (and make no mistake i'll be buying a PS3 for it as i brought a PS2... although i might buy one earlier for blu-ray and dvd upscaling), but by the time it does come out it'll be just one good game in an ocean of hundreds in the market.

I can't help but think that S-E is slowly losing its importance and influence in the industry.

A FF is always a big deal. It wont just be a piece of driftwood in the ocean, it'll be an island. It just might take some time to emerge from under the ocean

What is this "might" crap. Now that they have talked about it in public, they will have no problem doing this to assure the bottom line..... FFXIII in 2009 confirmed :(

Well, it's hard to argue that when they haven't introduced a successful new IP since Kingdom Hearts in, what, 2002?

And even then, it was only successful due to it riding the coattails of popular Nomura created FF characters and Disney nostalgia
being violently raped in a way totally not related to Rule #34
.

Take those away, but somehow keep Nomura designs and you have 'The World Ends with PRICE-COLLAPSE'.
