Wait... Mario Golf GBC is now on eshop? Was that one any good?

And it's not releasing today so.. we have to wait at least another full week.

ahhhh game is hard.

Don't know what I'm doing D:

golf seems fun, I assume I need to level up my gal a bit, cuz she seems to be... a bit not great at golf lol.

Actually, Mario Golf GBC is actually vastly superior IMO to the N64 version, but Toadstool Tour outshined both Mario Golf GBC and Mario Golf Advance Tour by far.

Indeed, that's half the fun of the RPG aspects of it - seeing your golfer start out not very good, and then slowly improve through play and gaining levels and improving stats and such.

I wish this could connect to Mario Golf 64 VC somehow D:

It doesn't really bother me too much since most of the extra stuff you got through transferring in Golf GBC/N64 was negligible.

Tennis GBC has quite a bit of stuff locked out without transferring, though. (Wario, Waluigi, Yoshi, Bowser, their respective courts, and their mini-games.) I'd hope that Nintendo would maybe modify the ROM to somehow make them available without transferring, but I'm not holding my breath. It's a shame too, because those mini-games (Wario's especially) were pretty damned fun.

I remember choosing Mario Tennis for the gbc over golf back in the day and I never regretted my decision, but I picked this up last week and its as fun as ever. I've heard people say the gba Mario Golf is better, but I honestly have to disagree. Mario Golf gbc is much simpler but the challenge is definitely there (damn Links Course). I've already had a handful of rage inducing instances with the computer getting impossible shots and making the most unlikely comebacks, but that just adds to the fun factor imo. So glad I picked this up and at $5 its a no-brainer.

Maybe someone will work out how to hex-edit the save file in order to unlock that stuff, like they did with Mario Tennis 64 on the Wii VC.

So... i'm a bit confused what I'm suppose to do. Are there like... training areas with challenges and what not to improve my stats/game?

Don't remember golf at all lol. Never played golf and the last golf game i've played was mario golf gba :/

Here's some trivia! Oh and chickdigger check GameFAQs.

In the game, three 1-Up Mushrooms can be found scattered around the map which reward the player with a level up.
The first can be found in the second room of the Directors Office in the Marion Club. It is in one of the two cabinets beside the Grandfather Clock.
The second can be found in the Club Maker's Hut in one of the two cabinets.
The third and final can be found in Peach's Castle's Courtyard in one of the bushes on the left side.
Similarly, the four main characters of the game can be found hidden in various areas (note: players can't find the character the player uses.)
Azalea can be found in the rightmost wall of The Palm Club Practice Putting Green.
Joe can be found in the leftmost wall of the Raven Woods Golf Course.
Kid can be found in the tree closest to the entrance to the Links Club Practice Putting Green.
Sherry can be found in the uppermost wall of Tiny-Tots Golf Grounds.
On the title screen, the Mario Golf logo can be shook by pressing any direction on D-pad.
By holding select while choosing a character the player can play left-handed. This does not include the four main characters (Azalea, Joe, Kid, and Sherry.)

Go around and talk to people. They give all sorts of great advice and some have challenges which earn experience.

Shit.

Resisting the temptation to save state and restore each shot is killing me!

Seriously?

This game was crack for me when I was younger. Every now and again, I'll go on youtube just to listen to the awesome soundtrack and nostalgia like a loon.

believe me, I'm god awful at putting :(

But you get experience even when you don't do well. It took me 7 or 8 tries to beat the Dunes tournament, and increasing my drive distance definitely helped.

Make sure you're using B to switch between putt lengths (30/100/200), which also works for Wedge shots. I didn't realize that until I talked to someone.

Pretty sure he's referring to your supposed use of save states on a format that only has suspended play, IIRC. Unless you can save between shots on Mario Golf GBC. I don't know, never played it.

Nah, I was expressing dismay at the save scumming. I think you can use restore points that way on 3DS games.

actually for 3ds gb vc games, you can create 1 restore point (pretty much a save state), so I can create a restore point before a shot, and reload that until i get the right shot.

Can someone explain to me how the stats work?

I don't know them golf stats :X

I remember IGN gave it like a 10 back in the day but I could never get into it when the N64 and GCN Mario Golf games were so much more enjoyable.

Shit, really? I gotta try this, I had no idea. How the fuck do you do that?

Sorry for implying you were using illegitimate means to play the game, by the way.

You actually don't need to use the save state, anyway, if you save and quit in the middle of a hole you will resume at the beginning of the hole, erasing any mistakes you might have made. On-cart savestate abuse. XD

GBA version is best version

GBC version doesn't suck though... I might just have to get it... but I'm still pissed I lost my GBA copy sometime ago.

Ok... I'm getting a hang of this.

Can someone explain to me wtf my 'stats' are? It's quite confusing to understand :X

Just been upgrading my drive so far.

Okay so I've been a bad boy. I just now realized this was released months ago. The only Mario Golf game I've played is the N64.

Not sure I'd put this ahead Pangya PSP just yet, but it has potential. I won the first tournament quite easily and won a match play with the old champ. Man I hate starting out with crappy driving distance. I want to hit the ball 300 yards now dammit!

Feels like Neo Turf Masters pocket in terms of characters and courses with a Hot Shots Golf swing bar.

Enjoying it so far.

I can't get into it. I figured I would like it because I always heard such good things and because I loved Mario Golf on GameCube so much.

On GameCube, I really liked the ball physics and the amount of control you had over what the ball would do after it touched the ground.
