Wait, so the waifu thing is actually for real?

As with bronies, I don't see why this is a problem. Different strokes for different folks.

I made this point in the brony thread, but I'll make it here again: it wasn't too long ago that people piled the same derision on gamers and game developers. "Sad people", "Need serious help", etc.

I'm genuinely curious, why are some of you disgusted by this waifu thing? If it makes them happier than being with a real woman, how is that bad for society in any way? It's not like we're suffering from under-population. I think it's okay if some people don't reproduce.

Some of you assume that the waifu thing is a cover-up for some serious issues. Why? Is it just because it's not normal, or do you have evidence?

Do some of you live in countries where conformity is viewed as necessary for harmony?

I'm genuinely wondering if there's an actual argument against non-violent social deviancy that I'm missing out on.

EDIT: Just so we're clear, I have nothing against poking fun at the waifu thing or bronies. They're undeniably funny. It's the people who are seriously dismayed and disgusted by them that perplex me. So they're weird. So what?

The issue here is that this behaviour is a way of not having to face reality.... Escapism is healthy, to a degree, but this is delusion.

I cant stop laughing

Ah, my two buddies, Buddha and Chambers. Do you guys ever plan on explaining yourselves, instead of leaving snarky one-liners and being dismissive? That approach really doesn't lend any credence to your "weirdos are evil and mentally ill" worldview.

If anything, you guys sound more in need of therapy than any brony or waifu-lover. Why the anger and hatred?

Heck, neither of you have even tried to contest my argument that gamers were largely viewed the same way not too long ago. I'm guessing you guys wouldn't be into gaming if it wasn't considered normal these days.
Gamers were never viewed like Bronies.

I've expressed no anger, no hatred (that wasn't obviously sarcastic), no worldview about evil mentally ill people. It is in your imagination. U mad.

Wut? "Fulfilling," is about as subjective as you can get. As far as odd lifestyles go, this has to be among the least harmful, considering all that crap is confined to these otakus' rooms.

It always involves others, we need intimacy and understanding. These guys obviously crave company.

Do it.

EDIT: just saw your post. I'd be more afraid of chicks finding out I liked the Saints than all that anime stuff.

lol. But I live in Louisiana. most of the women here are Saints fans. not much of a fanbase mix here.

It hurts the ones who ae delusional. It's depriving them of a fullfiling life.

I disagree. Their concept of a fulfilling life appears to be quite different from yours. but it is still making them happy. As long as they arent breaking laws, there is no problem with this.
Just be happy that they are leaving the 3D women to you. You should be grateful, silly!

What a moron. Jesus christ. I mean yes, creepy sick fuck, most definitely, but creepy sick fuck who is also a moron. How can you function while being that dumb?

EDIT:
I have that exact same lamp! I don't know why I care so much! But I got it for like three dollars at a St. Vincent de Paul

It is not that I find this sort of action paranormal, but rather, I acknowledge the fact that this extremist behavior is, in and of itself, suggestive of the absence of human identity.

It is strict inherent nature to associate oneself with the member's of one's own species.

This biological ''conformity'' is no phenomenon. Healthy human-to-human interaction is, in fact, a purely natural occurrence; and as such, should only be viewed as a social variable when there is a definitive issue with one's mental coherence and stability.

I dont remember where the hell I found that lamp. It just appeared in the house one day and I asked if I could have it.

Now I realize why that one time I tried to get you Cajunator to talk trash during the Saints-Broncos game you would not do it.

That combination of anime and football blows my mind. All good though.

I love my team, but Im not confident enough in them with that garbage defense to talk any shit, unless its the Raiders or something.

This is a pretty good argument, but it also takes us into philosophical territory. How do you know that anything is reality? Do you have a real relationship with your girlfriend, or is it superficial?

True, that was mostly 36 Chambers. You just annoy me because of your constant snark and know-it-all attitude. Generally this kind of behavior comes from insecure people. Hence the therapy suggestion.

Gamers were never viewed like Bronies.

Sure they were. I'm talking Dungeons and Dragons era here, not the Playstation 1 days. People came up with all sorts of dumb excuses to look down on gamers. It's anti-social, it's unhealthy, it's satanic, it's for losers, etc.

You've been noticeably upset. I suggest that you are looking for insecurity in the wrong place.

No, it was never nearly the same. You're the first person I've heard make this comparison and I don't expect to see it substantiated.

Now this is a good argument. Thank you. I agree that some level of conformity is beneficial, and that extremist behavior does indicate a lack of identity. That said, I feel like these are the wrong people to throw the first stones at. The dudebro lifestyle (particularly the heavy drinking and viewing of women as conquests) is much more detrimental to both the individual and society. Paradoxically, however, it is far more tolerated than being an obsessed otaku.

How do you define "a fulfilling life"?

Kind of a broader topic, but being introverted and being happy are not mutually exclusive.

If these guys were happy being introvertive loners they wouldn't need waifus.

I seriously doubt they're happy. Waifus are a substitute for the real women they think they can't get. They're indulging in a lifestyle where "happiness" is a fake relationship with a partner that expects absolutely nothing from them.

And you can say that for sure? Do you know these people?

They're literally making up imanginary girlfriends. It's obvious they want company. They want it so bad that they create fake company just so they won't feel as alone. C'mon, how is this not obvious? I'm not judgemental of indulging in the things you like, like Cajun does, but this is completely different! This is the human equivalent of lonely dogs who get attached to objects.

This kind of thinking, though valid, completely negates dicussion of any subject other than itself so it's not really constructive in this context.

No it's not. None of these guys are happy.

Nope. You can't be happy alone.

Yep.

Lol you're right. The D&D guys were the cool ones in high school. They used to sit at the same table as the jocks and the cheerleaders at lunch.

You're one to talk about not substantiating arguments. I don't think you've expanded on any of your points.

I'm pretty sure it's clear that I'm upset because of the lack of empathy for these weirdos. I don't see where you're perceiving that I'm covering up for my own insecurities. You, on the other hand, seem incapable of modesty, which is a clear sign of insecurity.

I guess that's a fair assessment. I still wouldn't speak with any kind of certainty since I don't know these people. It's probably a lot of factors that made them that way. Might be rare, but I think it's possible they honestly have no interest in real women. Nothing real will ever be as idealized as a fictional character, so that could always be used as a defense or something.

But yeah, I'm sure a large chunk of them are just lonely.

No amount of idealization can substitute having an actual body in your grasp.

Anime can't suck dick
I await pictures of anime-themed fleshlights

But yeah, I'm sure a large chunk of them are just lonely.

That's the number one reason.

ah, suddenly the real problem comes into focus.

Im sure some people are not happy being loners. Some people though are perfectly fine with that. Not everyone desires to have a family and kids.

I think his point may not necessarily be that people can't be happy being loners, but that someone who appears to be a loner but has serious personal investiture in fictional (female in the situation we're talking about) characters probably isn't actually the kind of person who is happy being a loner.

I don't want a family and kids. At all. And I guess I'd be pretty happy alone, but there's always some degree of empanthy most of us desire and even though I enjoy being a loner, romantically speaking, I'm pretty sure I've been happier for the last 5 years since I've been with my girlfriend than I was before. I wasn't unhappy, but true intimacy is always a welcome addition.

Let's just say these guys aren't happy. What's the fun in kicking a man while he's down? Isn't that morally wrong? I'd rather make fun of actual douchebags who are doing well in life, like Donald Trump.

I think the truth is that it bothers some of you that these guys might actually be happy. How dare they be satisfied with an imaginary girl while I toil away for real women! Many guys make women the focal point of all that they do. I can see why they would be pissed.

However, I respect those of you who have substantial arguments as to why this kind of lifestyle is not okay. (Oxigen_Waste, Casanova, etc.)

It's not that I don't think it's ok, it's just sad to see it happen when they'd most likely be alot happier if they didn't give up on "real" "love". As long as they're not hurting anyone, we should just leave them be, but it reeks of desperation, and I don't endorse quitting.

I dunno really. Im alone in life (except roommates) at the age of 30 and Im pretty content. Not like Id have much time for a relationship as I work 84 hour workweeks, but still.

Roommates are actually pretty significant.
Maybe not if you have a very dry business relationship and barely interact with them, but if they're friends whose company you enjoy, that's a different situation than living alone.

f you really think these "men" are happier with pillows than actual lovers then you're as delusional as they are.

For "neurotypical" people, (which is almost everyone), sure it makes sense. It's human nature. We're social animals.

Isolation, in healthy moderation, is completely healthy.

I am much happier alone that in the presence of bad company.

Your argument is moot and lacks any sign of a backbone for support.
