Sounds like my experience. They were watching hentai at their "call out" meeting. I swear that at least one or two of them had a hand down their pants during it. I couldn't leave quick enough.

Definitely not like our college anime club. They watched all sorts of older stuff. Cowboy Bebop, Yakitate Japan, Gundam, Tenchi, Nadesico, that sort of stuff. Best anime club ever.
 
I think the only anime-related thing I have is one DVD volume of Cowboy Bebop, and an incomplete collection Berserk mangas. Shit's expensive, yo. Like $30 for 5 eps of CB, and $12 for a manga vol, and that's in 2006 dollars :/

Edit: I have no interest in any pony merch. Except in the event a plush one day ends up in a claw machine, I might fight for it.

What I dislike about comics like this isn't there is no hint of truth from time to time, but rather always seems to be targeted at anime fans if late when these situations could be applied to just about any fandom ever made ever. The joke is clearly meant to be about "anime" fans but I've met nerds just as obnoxious in comic fandom, sci-fi fandom, movie fandom etc.

You're making me feel really old with that statement. Cowboy Bebop hadn't been released when I was in college. Back then it was all about 10th generation VHS tapes.

Anyhow, during my sophomore year I was paired with a roommate who was an anime pro. He and his girlfriend were obsessed with watching some hentai series in which young girls were sold as sex slaves. This really turned them on for some reason and they would proceed to bang following each episode. Anytime they watched it, I knew it was my turn to take off for awhile. Occasionally, I would catch them in the act (the guy never learned to place a tie on the door), and they seemed strangely aroused when that happened.

TL;DR Anime Pros generally creep me out.
 
I'm the last person to be talking as I have issues of my own, but while blunt, posters like Devo, 36 and Jon Bones are making some valid points. As I said in the Pony thread, live and let live but I don't feel sleeping with an anime pillow is exactly the most appealing thing to a woman especially if she also sees a room covered in anime posters. It would be odd to sleep with a pillow of your favorite celebrity let alone one of a cartoon girl that appears underage. I suppose you could find a girl who's in to that but the fact is I'm sure even most otaku girls might consider it a bit off.

I still think it's a bit creepy but if you're happy, go on living life.

But hey, who am I to judge. I personally have my own problems with dating and whatnot due to my appearance, anxiety, social awkwardness, etc. I bet a lot of you "hardcore" anime fans really do have a decent chance of finding someone if you put away the anime stuff aside. Not saying to not be yourself and try to lose interest. You just might be missing something out there. I've had one relationship in my whole life, and while it didn't turn out good, it was still an awesome experience and probably the best moment in my life.

Oh are we posting pictures our rooms? The problem I have with anime style rooms is that there doesn't seem to be any class or style to the rooms.

Frame your shit and atleast try to properly space it out.

The irony behind this is that a number of people in this thread give off a strong impression that they would be incredibly unpleasant to interact with in real life versus the people they are criticizing.

Heh. I used to have a room totally plastered with game/anime posters when I was in high school. Ended up taking it all down when I moved at 20 and never put any of it back up out of laziness. These days I reflect on it and find it completely embarrassing. I only have framed pic of Asuka that one of my best friends drew for me on my wall now

Yeah, it's common to get that impression from people who are strident and disagree with you. I wouldn't draw any broad conclusions.

That's the problem with geeky merch and decor in general, the classy stuff are just too few and far between. If it weren't for that (and me being a cheap bastard) I'd have way more art in my room. Sometimes it sucks being an anime, game, or TV show fan where it's hard to find a tasteful wallpaper much less a poster especially when music and movies get cool stuff all the GODDAMN TIME!

Also side rant but I'm also sick of goddamn "Vintage" T-shirts everywhere!

Man, I always feel a little jealous when I see how much stuff other people have. That one guy with the killer pad must have a well-paying job (or lots of family money). My room barely has wall paint.

You could probably plaster your walls with cheap posters though, if you really wanted.

I don't think it has much to do with disagreement, more so with how they handle themselves.

A poster above me mentioned promoting families to disown their own over this is a good example I think.

Even if they were on my side of the discussion I would still think the same. I'm sure I've been rude at times in the past however I tend to draw the line between momentary rudeness and general unpleasantness around where people start implying others have mental health issues then proceeding to mock these people and even admitting to deriving pleasure from insulting people who have these issues/lack of social skills.

You just gotta hunt the stuff down. See what works and what doesn't. I have plenty of stuff I haven't hung up because it doesn't work. Also shit can be expensive as well. Proper organization can do wonders though.

I share a room with my brother (separate beds, before anyone gets any ideas), so I couldn't plaster my room with stuff like that even if I wanted to. Which I don't. I'm not really a merchandise whore at all. The only poster in my room is my brother's Red Sox poster with Curt Schilling on it.

Well, he works 84 hours a week as a dispatcher. Even if he works minimum wage, the amount of money he makes in overt time would compensate.
