War For A Permanent Spot In The Living Room: Who Will Win? ...

Nintendo may never again be the market leader in pure home console sales. The may, however, become the home console with the most users, highest game sales, and most importantly highest profit per unit sold ratio.

I can't believe no one has pointed out just how retarded these two statements are.....

Since we started with the predictions:

PS3: 80-90 million
Revolution: 35 million or more, mainly because of Japan
360: As much as Xbox sold this gen.
You need to clean your crystal ball... it has shitty predictions all over it.

It's my opinion if you don't like it use the ignore list. It's there you know. Use it. Anyway I forgot 360's time advantage so add 5+ millions to the xbox number.

I think its safe to say..

Noone here has a single fucking clue to how this will shape out, or anyone in the world for that matter. Revolution could be a huge bomb. It could alienate all of Nintendos fans. OR- it could explode and be a huge success, with people wanting to try something new, and with those who typically dont play videogames, and spread through word of mouth. It depends how the marketplace reacts. It is completely up in the air, and I for one won't even attempt a prediction.

If the software is just as revolutionary than the controller, then I can definitely see the Revolution outsell the N64, and it would be Nintendo's 3rd best console.

I think the hardware can sell 50 million, approacing slowly to SNES levels, we shall see though.

I agree. Especially in USA I really don't know although I'm leaning towards the bomb scenario (GC sales). I'm pretty sure though -judging from DS- that in Japan it's be a huge success.

It all depends on how they follow through with software. Sure it's a unique controller and everything but we still don't know shit about the actual games and whether or not they will offer something over traditional games.

We don't have much of an idea about what kind of software they want to release and within what time frame like we do with the 360 so it's hard for me to draw a comparison.

So a console that plays a completely new style of games, along with all GCN games, as well as N64, Super Nintendo, and Nintendo along with possible Sega offerings and optional DVD playback isn't likely to have a permanent spot in the living room? I think it's more likely than any other console to keep a spot for a long, long time. Saying all that of course, who knows who the market leader will be (though I do have a feeling that it's going to be between Nintendo and Sony as they're competing in two different ways.)

In my limited experience it's the practice of far more people to sell/trade in all their old games/systems in order to purchase the next-gen systems etc. On average 70-80-% of the gamers I know do the same.

Not everyone cares about playing old games. Hopefully I'm wrong this time.

It's a safe assumption that it'll be Sony for the win. That being said, I think Nintendo will do better than most expect. As an affordable secondary console that offers unique games and experiences that the other 2 don't.

I won't presume the original poster's intentions, but I'll say that maybe Nintendo could win a permanent spot in the "family's" living room. I mean this in the sense that in a family most consoles are usually relegated to the kid's/teenager's own rooms, but the appeal of the Revolution could lend itself to a more "accepted" place in the living room, much like the Eye-Toy did/does in many households.

Nintendo will not gain marketshare unless it's at the expense of the Xbox. That controller is garbage. That more people will buy a REAL system with a REAL controller this gen than last is telling. Gamers are not gonna beat down store doors to get a fucking remote. The dumbest fucking thing I've ever seen. Dumbest. Less buttons and a lax attitude towards system performance? Puhleez.

The reason Nintendo is making so much money right now is not because of the Gamecube. Their GC business is not nearly as profitable as their handheld business, which is now under threat from the PSP. I will make the not so bold prediction that their profits will slip this generation, considerably. The handheld market may end up split, but that's not gonna be nearly as rich as the complete dominance they have enjoyed for almost 2 decades. I don't expect them to be the most profitable company this gen, and I don't expect them to make anywhere near the same impact in Japan as Sony will. They may yet sell more Rev there than GCs, but that's not saying much. Their second place was a token due to the near non-existence of the XB. The XB sold like day old shit. Gee, beating a total close to zero must be pretty impressive, huh? Nintendo has lost the plot. Their fans are losing it too. Lucky for us, there aren't as many of them remaining as in the past.

I don't think the Rev is the revolution anyone needs. It's a fucking bad STB that plays old games and yet still lacks the functionality of a competing console. Great...it comes with a remote. Hopefully with a power button, so you can turn it off.

MS should improve their marketshare. I see them gaining in the US, though nowhere near what some expect. I think Sony's just dropped a couple megaton bombs on their asses, and still haven't unleashed the major western can of whoopass that will be the next-gen GTA. But MS still has Live, and a fairly loyal fanbase that would probably neuter themselves than buy a Sony system. I can see the early launch giving them an install base large enough to keep from getting completely swamped, and I see them picking up some of the shellshocked Nintendo "evacuees" who can't accept going to the enemy. Much in the way they picked up a bunch of disgruntled Sega fans this gen. In EU, they'll also increase their market, but by a lesser amount then the US, and they're stillborn in Japan...again.

Sony just ended the next-gen war. Yeah, that's totally fanboyish to say, I'll gladly admit. All we got really was one game, which isn't as big in Japan as it is in the west (IIRC). There is so much more they have left to unleash that it's laughable to expect anything else. They are the lead console for devs. That's right, get over it MS fans. Contrary to what some wanted to believe, market and mindshare do count a great deal. The game was always theirs to lose, and one game has just put the score out of reach. There's still GTA, FF, DQ, GT and others that will make their way to the PS3, and systematically lockdown one territory after another. Is it really that farfetched? They have the momentum, not MS. They have 70M more users and growing. And to add insult to injury, they finally have the power advantage. The only one to derail Sony will be Sony. And it's still a possibility b/c I am now cringing at the thought of the price. The console and accessories are gonna get that Sony premium pricing, I just know it...and I hate it.

Wait for X05. Wait for Spaceworld. Wait for reality to sink in. I got flamed to high heaven for saying the same thing prior to the PS2 launch, and it just ended up being a formality. You don't need Ms. Cleo to see what's coming. MS is gonna be overwhelmed, and Nintendo just mailed it in. If you didn't like Sony before, you might as well start getting used to it, b/c the competition is completely inept. PEACE.

:lol Same here, actually. Worthless thread.

If you found his opinion worthless then why did you reply to it? If you disagree with him then argue against him. Or just leave the thread rather than calling someone's thread worthless.
