More playing, less talking!

Will grab some coffee and play some more, trying other factions out. Can't wait to see how the Zerg are played in this game.

For people who want to join:
Steam: Won
LIVE GT is Won Tollo (just click to add)

Haven't tried 3vs3 yet. Need probably lower my setting a bit for it.

Oh and no screens? Did I miss a button? Folder was empty. :(
So only got one shot so far with me rolling over my enemy.

(2 games in and already hate the jungle setting.)

I better get on this. The only chance I've got to actually score a win or two in this game is to get in when nobody knows what the hell they're doing.

so my girlfriend just told me she owes me a fiver.

if she steam gifts it to me....it's not like i'm being played here?

right?

guys?

guys?

just played 2 quick 1v1 skirmishes against the CPU just to try and get a handle on it.

So far, feels very much like a slightly more stripped down COH with some really nice shiny DOW art (a good thing). There also seems to be a highter cost for units which emphasizes smaller armies and more heat of the battle tactics.

Still need to put a lot more time in, but basically feels like DOW but with more emphasis on offense.

A couple games in. I set it to automatic with the settings. When it gets good and clustered, it starts to chug. Over all though, it seems very easy on the micromanaging thing. Take nodes, earn point as you go. Upgrade on whim with either some of the certain areas you take and what not. I think I like the idea of not having to buy an upgrade like structure for your units. You get them as you go and so forth so it keeps the pace fast and furious with pumping units out and take out key areas as quick as you can. Fun times. I'll give it more play later tonight no doubt.

Edit: As far as graphics, I'm betting on high high settings, they look glorious. Much better looking than the older Dawn of War games easily.

Not sure about this yet, seems like you really need to micro the powers/abilities of the leader and even some of the specialty units to be effective. Moreso than in COH anyway. Still fumbling my way around.

Runs well on my rig at 1920x1200, which was my main concern. There are some lag issues, but it is a beta after all. Overall I'm very impressed with what came out in the end, even if it feels a bit different at first. I'll probably post more impressions after I've had a few more matches.

I seem to be unable to connect to Games For Windows...I am on their help site and trying to open the requested ports but it isn't working. Anyone make sense of this?

I had no clue what was going on during my first game, but I'm still having fun. I think me, Marital and ghst put up a decent fight in our team games and so far, I'm really liking the Medic Hero of the space marine faction. Wish there was a way to set-up private lobbies however, so that we could read up on each squad's capabilities on our own pace.

Game just randomly booted me at the end of that last session though ghst; no idea what happened there. It's getting late, so maybe we can continue tomorrow.

Go to http://www.portforward.com/ and find your router in that list.

Well some more impressions after playing around with other factions:

- No base building at all. There are some hero specific turrets and other stuff, but thats it. (oh and warpgates of course)
- DoW players are not used to cover yet. :D
- Cover spots are kinda hard to see imo.
- Less vehicles than DoW or CoH and they seem to get destoyed really fast so far.
- Tyranids are like every other factions as far as I have seen it in the one game I have played it. Bit disappointing, but I don't know much about the TT anyway.
- All faction are actually pretty similar so far. Well at least it will be balanced.
- Still not a fan of the UI. Everything unit related is crammed into the lower right corner. Makes it really hard for new players to figure out what is what.
- Buildings seem a bit bugged at the moment. Units inside and outside run around like idiots.
- Lots of supression in this game (only a slowdown and not a crawl like in CoH) but no pinning it seems.
- Dow players are not used to supression yet. :D
- Action starts very early in the game and then never really ends. But thats more because of the (only?) map for 1vs1 so far. Both players start right to each other.
- Runs very smooth. Very fun to play at least.
- No lobby so far.
- Private games are greyed out for the moment. :(
- Need moar maps!

Thats it so far. Defintefily fun and action packed. Not sure about complexity yet.

That is a cool trick Won. If I were to just insert my name in place of yours, like so:

http://live.xbox.com/en-GB/profile/FriendsMgmt.aspx?gt=Genuinely+Draft&act=Add

Will it work for me?

Should and seems to work!

yeh i missed the COH bus so am getting used to cover and the supression, the bonus for rear damage is a nice touch.

GFWL: walshey90210

How terribly hard will this be for someone who's relatively weak at RTS? World in Conflict is more my speed.

And why am I thinking of buying more games...*scratches head*

Really? I thought there was base building in multiplayer. That kinda sucks. :\

Looks like I finally got the sequel to Z I've been waiting over a decade for.

Is soulstorm a good game? I'm a sucker for a decent rts campaign.

No, not really. Not in my opinion at least.

If you want a good campaign, play the first Dawn of War and its first expansion, Winter Assault.

I wouldn't say any of the DoW have good campaigns. There average.

i'm quite relieved at how different to coh this game is. i'm certainly enjoying it so far but as i speculated, there's still every reason to keep playing the two in tandem.

wow i just played and was totally lost as to what i was doing, and i loved the original dow and coh. how do i bould the power nodes onto the generators? i really need some practice with this :( but man is it gorgeous.

Do I lose anything by just getting Soulstorm? Or do I need to purchase the other Dawn of War stuff to play with the rest of the DoW1 players.

I'm confused as I figured it was a regular expansion. Steam says the original is not needed.
