Warhammer 40K Dawn of War 2 multiplayer beta

It will tell you it needs to activate on Steam as soon as you press install, it opens Steam client, you enter the code you get in the back of the manual to activate, then Steam immediately shuts down.

So yeh, you can't do anything at this point.

Basically, gotta wait till whenever Steam activate which is likely to be US time so 2 days from now. So I have no idea whether Steam needs to be on or not after that.

Seriously I dunno why some people are so apologetic for online activation. The street date for the game in Australia is tomorrow which is the 18th. Going by that, that would mean the game is effectively useless till the day after it's release anyway. Some stores broke street date which is when I got a call to pick up my copy. I have it, it's legit. The fact I can't play a legitimately purchased game is in my mind ludicrous. I hope the same names telling me to fuck off right now are swinging the same routine in the next 'DRM is shit' thread.

I don't mind activating it online, I'm just not keen on having to be online when playing. My internet sometimes drops out, I don't want to be in a single player game and get booted out because of my internet.

As long as it doesn't need to run all the time, I'm happy.

I don't recall a steam game ever doing this. You should be fine.

Ah ok that I can't tell you right now sorry.

So if Steam isn't around 5 years from now and you want to install this game and give the single player another go, you're fucked? Throw the game in the garbage (or download the crack)? Fuck, I hate this activation BS. Red Alert 3 did this too.

First, steam will be around in 5 years from now on.

Second, Valve has already stated, that if the Steam platform goes down some day, they will release a patch for all Steam Games.

it won't be the same routine because it's not the same issue. that is a draconian inconvenience, this is you crowbarring some hyperbolic purchase philosophy into a situation that's perfectly comprehensible.

the advantages of mandatory steam activation are myriad on both the developer side and the user side. the disadvantage is that everyone has to wait until the game is officially released to play it.

metacritic says the game is middle 8's, i won't buy the game till it get 9's like company of heroes.
or they make a version of the game that runs on my 486 =(
