As someone with two out of four grandparents whose family lines were almost completely eradicated by Nazi Germany during the Holocaust, I would just like to say one thing:

**** you God Mode. **** you.

www.adl.org

Several have already reported Godmode and the strip.

Reported it for what? It's a tasteless and stupid comic, but if tasteless and stupid jokes were illegal there would be no Fox Network.

Does Fox have shows that portray the HOLOCAUST in such a way?

Theres a big difference between tastelessness and deliberate offensiveness, anti-semitism is illegal in many countries (Including the UK, it violates our racial hatred laws), and this comes very close to being anti-semitic, thanks to the Jewish imigary, and the setting, not good.

wow that was not funny!
but I am not offended I could care less if he jokes about the holocaust but if you do, try to make if funny idiot

I don't think the God Mode guy is European. Those are terrible laws anyway.

What still strikes me about all of this is how much intended awfulness there was in the comic.

1) It's not funny.
2) The comparison of two forms of the 360 doesn't make any sense for a "joke" about genocide and such. Not that you could do that "tastefully", but it isn't even logical.
3) The current form of the comic seems to indicate that the author is saying the Nazis were right, in as much as he is saying that the Nazis:Elite::Jews:360, and since we know the Elite is a superior piece of hardware compared to a stock 360, the necessary implication of the comic is ...

It's creepy, unfunny, and weird. All at the same time. Point 3 is what REALLY irks me about this comic, although I don't give the guy making it to see that that is what the comic would necessarily imply.

Well, the only possible meaning is that he is drawing a comparison between Hitlers "Final solution", and Microsofts Sku strategy, which is deeply offensive, if anything I expect Microsoft themselves to officially complain about this, because tongue in cheek or no, this may actually be seen as a libellous attempt to bring MS into disrepute, but hey, maybe i'm reading too much into it.

Also, thanks for your fantastic insight into my (And many other) countries anti-racism laws, I'm sure you can think of a better solution that makes sure filth like this is not only discouraged, but ulitmately punishable.

God Mode is just...off most of the time.
I post most gaming webcomics daily on /v/, and God Mode is the most hated one.

Where I come from free speech is a good thing.

I'm a bit confused -- I didn't make any comment about any sort of laws or anything like that. What exactly were you referring to or meaning?

Free Speech is a double edge sword people, don't keep shouting from the streets your right to it, just know that you have the right to it.

god damn it people, you are reading way too much into this. The dude who writes god mode is juvenile and doesn't in the least understand a shit about potential back-lash. shrug your shoulders and walk away...

well. i never even thought of that. i guess it's too clever.
i was thinking of that Garfield "go back to bed" picture but yeah, whatever.

i really don't want to laugh at the people who lost their lives.

:)

Well it is not laughing at the actual Holocaust, the humor is the irony that things die no matter what happens. I am surpised that it hasn't been mentioned in the mainstream blogs yet.

It's so bad they're passing laws against it in Europe now.

Dear me you're so missing the point, we have laws against racial hatred, which, this strip can easily be seen as voliating them, Free speech is overrated, and as you can see, its abuse leads only to trouble, anyway, we have different standpoints on this, we wont change them, so lets agree to disagree?

In no way is that strip that clever, at all.

I've only read the first page so far but insensitive and offensive is okay. He 100% has the right to do a comic like that. He has the right to offend people. And even those offended know it's a joke. They don't have to be amused, but it's a joke.

But uh, the thing is with dark/racist/vile humor, like ANY comedy, it has to.. you know, be funny.

That shit wasn't even remotely funny. LOL BLACK 360 IS BETTER. Okay?

White Man's comic was pretty confusing, but I can't wrap my mind around this one at all.

What's even happening? I guess the guy's shiny head burned them while reflecting the sun, but what's any of that got to do with Halo?

Yeah, free speech should be supported and I'm not for censorship from the government. But I'm completely for browbeating this insensitive bastard into oblivion.

Bald space marines?

In this case...bald..guy in a beach, giving a tan to a topless chick!?

:lol at the one with NeoGAF on it... missed that when it happened! But yeah, Godmode is brutal, there isn't even a punchline in most of these strips.

Because he's the guy that got a connection error and had to do something else?... I hate Godmode as much as the next person but this one was not so hard to get was it?

Only read the first and last page so probably repeating stuff but hey this is the Internet.

From a comedy POV I think it's poorly thought out. Perhaps with 20gb PS3s as they are actually being discontinued it would be slightly funnier. Even so the analogy just doesn't stand up.

I'm not Jewish, so can't really comment on it's offensivness, but it doesn't seem to be offensive to jews IMO. Unless we're on the whole "don't trivialise the holocaust" thing, which I don't really get. Besides Nazis are funny and I find laughing at skinheads really puts them off.

I am from the UK and can tell whoever thinks this would contravene religious (not racial) hatred laws is waay off the mark. When those laws came in comedy was specifically mentioned as an area that was off bounds.

On freedom of speech. I'm an all or nothing kinda guy. But then I'm a "Man up, Nancy" kinda guy on most offensive things, I just find it virtually impossible to be offended and when I am realise that my offence is entirely down to myself.

Overall, bad comic (although par for the videogame comic course), no need for panty twisting, IMHO.

I can honestly say I never would've got that. I figured it was a reference to some obscure anime or something. Way to make tenuous, asinine connections, comic-creator.

The irony is that he failed to make a connection between the first panel and the rest of the comic.

Well, he might be referring to:
Wikipedia said:
A halo (Greek: ἅλως; also known as a nimbus or Gloriole) is a ring of light that surrounds an object.

Halos, also known as icebows, are optical phenomena that appear near or around the Sun or Moon, and sometimes near other strong light sources such as street lights.
Source: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Halo_(optical_phenomenon)

This wouldn't make the comic any less horrible, btw.
To be honest, this could only make the joke worse...

*shitty comic*

It's just another way to bash Halo (which this guy must REALLY hate, given how many times he's referenced it) inserted into another poorly, I-wish-was-superior-Japanese-man written/drawn/shat out comic.

I think the comic was more of a combination of "let's take a random stab at MS" while making a "lol, Hitler" joke, rather than a glimpse of some deep seated anti-semitism people seem to think the author has.

Of course, the comic, much like others, was still wholly unfunny, visually uninspired, and the comparison of MS SKU strategy to Nazi Germany was completely inaccurate.

If anything, this comic is a textbook example of internet humor. For sites like 4chan, or ytmnd, (and I'm sure countless others) jokes like these are their bread and butter. Godmode may have made a tasteless joke, but in no way are they the first or worst offender when it comes to things like this.

I guess it's a neccessary evil for free speech, but hey, I'm happy with going back to ignoring Godmode.
