I enjoyed the movie immensely. I agree that the trailers and advertising hurt this movie... It told too much and led me to think I didn't need to see it. It's one of my best Red Box rentals this year.

I enjoyed it but the ending pissed me off, I could tell just from the cover who won but it still came as a great disappointment.

What is the punishment for deserting btw?

OMG.......

This is on Netflix streaming now and everyone who hasn't seen it should definitely check it out.

I never got motivated to see it in theaters because the trailer made it seem like your run of the mill sports movie.

But it's not, there is a really good story and some great acting in this film, Nolte is amazing.

I guessed how it would end half way through but I didn't give a damn because I enjoyed the emotional journey I was on. And those last 5 min.....manly tears were shed.

Good movie. I don't think its all that rewatchable though, except for the great ending.

Tom Hardy was awesome in this.

I really wanted to like this when I saw it a few months ago. Love MMA, love Hardy, and despite the trailers giving away most of the film I watched it really expecting to like it a lot. It wasn't that it was cliche that bothered me, I expected that from the premise and the trailers. It was the heavy handedness of how wrote each cliche that bothered me. It had it's moments for sure, but a lot of the heavy handed predictable cliches missed their mark, I dunno I thought the most cringe worthy parts were any scene of edgerton's HS students, his wife, or his principal. though nolte and hardy scenes were fantastic. i definitely expected it to be 8/10 film from all the hype i heard prior to watching it, but it's probably a 5 or a 6 for me. then again I probably would like it a little bit more if I didn't watch it with such lofty expectations. I thought The Fighter, another overrated movie imo, was more compelling.

Not the biggest fan of the ending.

It was the best part.

The reconciliation of the brothers after all of the hardships they went through. Tommy litteraly and figuratively giving up on the fight he has been wageing all those years, it was beautiful.
It was also a great choice of music, anyone know the name of the song?

My wife kept trying to joke on this movie after seeing the trailers. I finally watched it a couple weeks ago while she was out of town. Holy shit, I called her straight out and told her she needs to watch it. Great fucking movie.

Watched this on 'flix and it is indeed a good movie, the ending was rather annoying though. Completely unbelievable that a ref wouldn't hear or notice what had happened.

A few other plot issues aside, I very much enjoyed it. Tom Hardy = brick house. GODDAMN. He looked even more ripped here than he did in Rises.

This was me during that scene:

It became so goddamn touching when
Tommy puts his dad on top of him and comforts him to sleep like he's a small child.

Best scene of the movie, easily. The ending also hit me pretty hard, but the ref and all that's linked with that part of the ending really annoyed me.

The scene on the beach was pretty hard too, but the emotional roller-coaster during the last 15mins was brutal. You could feel Tommy's pain and anger coming out, amazing acting from all involved, especially hardy.

On par with Rocky VI as my favorite cheesy, unrealistic sports drama ever.

It's amazing that Tom Hardy has yet to be nominated for an Oscar. He is the new Gary Oldman, where he gets so into his roles that you hardly recognize him, and he does such an amazing job. But gets no fucking award recognition for it because of that.

Great movie - jut watched it. Went in blind. It was predictable, especially after a certain point that I shall not mention, but it was very entertaining regardless.

It still blows my mind that Gary Oldman has only ONE nomination, and it came this year.

Agreed.
