Watch the Titanic sink in real time (2h 40m)

Your mom laughed at and taped you crying? That sounds kind of mean. I remember crying in the cinema at the end of My Girl... if my mum had laughed I would've been pretty hurt!

Do you still have the video?

I think she does, it has to be in our collection of old vhs family tapes.

I watched the whole thing
in double time
. I imagine it must be terrifying. ti's the middle of the night, you're in the middle of nowhere, there's not enough lifeboats (and men aren't allowed on anyway), and rescue is hours away. Certainly enough time to make peace with life and death.

Every time they gave me a role card in that Titanic Exhibit thing I ended up drowning. :(

Not this time!

I love you for this.

I wonder how they're managing to continue working on the game. From their indiegogo they were hoping to achieve $250,000 at minimum, but after two months they only got to just over $60,000. And that was around a year ago. It's a bummer because they definitely have a lot of high aspirations for the game. I reckon many people think that they're only goal was to work on a VR walking simulator with just the ship, but reading their goals they really are trying to create an actual game. They were even hoping to build an entire section of Southhampton.

Hopefully they get to reach their former goals, whether it's through being picked up by a big publisher or another crowd funding project. Looking forward to seeing more from these guys

They're been too ambitious. It'll probably die due to bad project management.

Chuck that shit up on Early access as a walking sim and then flesh it out. I'd pay $10 for a Titanic VR walkabout. Shit looks dope.

Kind of depressing bro no? reminds me of that 9/11 VR simulator where you get to play as someone trapped in the twin towers and it gives you the option to jump out the window.

So yeah I got a mickey of whiskey and watched the whole thing. I've always had a fascination with the ship. Very surreal.

It really is one of the most dramatic tragedies to occur in our modern history.

Yeah, that's way too much. As it is now, they should concentrate 100% on the ship and what happens inside it. And ditch the town completely. Maybe do one or two introductory cutscenes with it at best.

I mean, it would be impressive if they could do it but with so few people working on the project it will never be done in this decade. Point of the whole project is the Titanic so they should focus 100% on that. And even then it should take them a couple of years at least (from this point), if they don't get help from a few more people.

This is exactly what I contacted them about. After reading their site it struck me as they were making a 1912 simulator. I wrote them a few notes about too much ambition and the need for good project management. Told them to stay with their first idea of the game and then add their other goals afterwards.

I mean shit, look how long Cameron took to make a movie with full crews and complete professionals in all aspects of film making on the project. These guys have to do huge dialog systems, bugs, sound, acting, collision, simulation. Lot of work.

Holy crap i just saw the project being covered by my local TV news (just a couple of minutes ago). They showed a bunch of clips from various videos and the demo. That was weird. It must have left an impression to someone in the channel studio...

Huffpost covered it too. I think it may be quietly going viral, at least for those interested in the sinking.

It looks that way, yeah. In 3 days, this video has already more views than anything else in their channel, second one in line being at least 1 year old.

This can only be a good thing for the project i can imagine. They need this kind of exposure.

Yeah, it was a smart idea to release the vid so close to the anniversary. AV Club just posted a piece on it too.

This is good to hear that its picking up steam like they wanted, tho the purpose of that video was to get the attention of a publisher who would be willing to pay for the game they're trying to make.

Every night in my dreams I see you I feel you.

"It's beautiful. It was the most beautiful love story I have ever seen. When we have kids, while sitting down on a beautiful summer's night... I'm going to look you in the eyes, Rose. I'm gonna be like, 'Remember when, you beat up that fat guy who was trying to kill you with the shotgun & you knocked Herman Munster off the Titanic a couple of times?' I'm glad we made it through that."

They released a second Demo for the game!

I haven't tried it yet but i'm very eager to, after the first one.

WOW!

I was just on their website 2 nights ago checking to see how the progress of the ship was coming and didn't see much in the way of news. Then this drops.

Thanks so much for this. The first demo was really impressive if you're a fan of the Titanic. I highly recommend going to the first class Turkish bath on D deck and walk up very close to the tile on the wall. How are those for hi res textures?

For those too lazy, here.

Will be trying the new demo tonight and come back with my thoughts.

Not sure if many of you are still following this or not (i've been checking back daily) and figured I would update those who don't have the time to follow all their podcasts and whatnot.

As much as I want these guys to succeed I'm really worried that if this ever does get made there's a good chance of it being a mess on release.

The director is talking up the game with some pretty lofty promises. Such as having 200 characters (all fully voice acted), mini games throughout the ship such as shuffle board, cards, etc., a fully remodeled city of Southampton (with all buildings allowed to be entered), a orchestral score, etc.

They've released 2 demos so far and their progress of modelling the Titanic itself llooks to be 60% done (and i'm not sure what sort of state that is.)

For those of you who haven't played the 2nd demo yet, it's extremely impressive but I can't possibly see them delivering on all their goals. They have said this should cost them around $10 million dollars, and no clue what they've made from donations so far.

For those who may be interested you might want to look at donations, or simply drop them a line with support.

Hope this becomes a real product some day.

Do they even have a staff? I only ever saw three guys so far.

Those 3 guys are the main full time team. They have others that do work when not working their full time jobs, and then they contract out 3d modelling and stuff like that when they can.

This recent walkthrough makes the ship environments look impressive. But there's still no game here. Personally I don't need the game. Use that tech to create an interactive Titanic experience.

I agree. I would hate to see all this work go to waste.

The interior modelling has an amazing amount of detail and clearly they have some skill when it comes to doing stationary objects. But I wonder how they are at modelling humans. It's going to be hard to put just as much detail into the npc's so that they don't stand out so much against the life like rooms.

They should set a Battle Royale game on a sinking titanic with all the good loot being in lower levels of the ship that can flood at any moment.

I love the Titanic and hope they manage to release this. I would be happy just to be able to explore the entire ship. I would buy a VR headset just for this. To go on Titanic would be a dream come true. It's such a beautiful ship.

Beautiful for us Titanic buffs but I always find these kind of experiences very "empty". Titanic without a single soul on her is just a tech demo, not a game. Hopefully that'll change before the game is finished.

It's currently a tech demo to show off the ship model.

This project started ages ago. Their first Youtube video is from 2013 and it shows some progress already which means it started even before that. And it's still a tech demo. I assume the ship model is probably ready but there is still no game here. So that will take another 4 years at least if they continue with the same pace.

The graphics look amazing now but if they don't get a decently sized team soon enough it will look obsolete when it comes out.
