Watch_Dogs Creative Director Shares More Information About PC Specs Requirements

Another technical illogical thing:

assuming the game is indeed very CPU dependent, this means that it happens regardless of framerate. If a CPU can give smooth 30 FPS, then the amount of work need to go to 60FPS is really MINIMAL on the CPU side, you need a very small headroom since the game logic is covered.

So a CPU-capped game means that it runs pretty much the same whether you run at full HD or in 720p. More or less same FPS. Whatever videocard you throw at it, you get the same performance.

Meaning that it's pretty stupid to say that a slower CPU requires "medium settings", because if the CPU does supports "medium settings" then the GPU is able to handle by itself whatever is at high.

In short: if the game REALLY requires an i7 at max settings, then it would mean the thing runs like shit for non i7, AT ALL SETTINGS AND RESOLUTIONS.
If they didn't optimize well then settings like shadows could put a big strain on the CPU.

Might be a little off topic of a question on this thread since CPU is the discussion here, but what did you do to your SSD to get a disk score like that? Seems like mine has deteriorated since I got it a month ago, but we have the same kind.

Is it plugged into a Sata II port instead of Sata III?

Guys remember this is for Ultra settings. Question is for what performance like fps/resolution are expected for the recommended and ultra specs, have they said anything about that?

GJL.jpg

that is 8150FX @4.7

is it too late to ask for refund? My system only has 4 gigs of ram, and to hell with me taking a chance on whether or not the game boots

Damn, hopefully I can crank out medium settings with a stable framerate. Was really hoping to push max for this game.

GTX 770 2GB
Intel Core i5 4570
8GB 1600MHz Memory

Is an i7 2700k really that far behind the times now? Its on the cusp of 9000 but nothing a modest over clock can't fix I guess.

Otherwise I guess my 780 is fine at 1440p.

think this thread just decided for me - will probably check out the PS4 version

depressing as i felt like i had a nice system, now i want to upgrade my cpu/mobo!
PS4 version is 1600x900 and probably has some effects scaled back. On a decent PC you'd at least be able to run at 1080p, which makes a pretty big ddifference IMO, not to mention you'll be able to run it even better when you upgrade your hardware again.

I really would not put much stock in Passmark benchmarks. They always seem to be full of crap. Let's see them 3dMark scores!

Passmark is a shit benchmark that is not even close to a real gaming load.

It shows not only unrealistic SMT scaling, it also does not take into account the realities of a ton of workloads (including games).
Like having one thread that limits the minimum amount of time a frame's worth of calculations can be finished (i.e the DX11 driver thread), in those cases a CPU with a higher per core performance can very well outperform CPUs with a lot of slower cores (or slow cores with SMT).

So my stock i5-2500k with a 7850 should be fine... with low settings. Well, I guess I will wait until I upgrade my PC and get the game <10$ then.

I'm getting GTA 4 flashbacks.

me too. I shouldn't have had any hope for this game.

I held out hope through the downgrade talk, the recommended requirements talk, and now this...? This is the last straw, next time Ubisoft develops an open-world PC game I'll do well to wait until after official benchmarks are released and a consensus exists on it's real-world/retail level of optimization.

Lot of doom and gloom talk in here. Wait and see how your 2500k does in the actual game, all these posts of scores below 9000 demanding Ubisoft's head. You might be surprised.

I won't be shocked at all if this is just some poorly implemented future tech that only goes into effect with certain settings that run in Ultra mode. I've got a decent system but I can't run Crysis 2 at full-settings because its DX11 mode is garbage. Newer machines can do it because they just power through, not because of any better hardware implementations of the API.

They should only be demanding ubisoft's head for telling people to use passmark.

You're going to be bottle necked forever with that CPU. A nice i7 Ivy or Haswell will set you for a bit. Or you could go with a Sandy Bridge E for even more future proof.

Dude, that setup is OLD .. you're due for a CPU, MB, RAM update..MIn now is 8gig, no matter what, ok is 16 and elite is 32..
You guys are right, this CPU isnt even officially supposterd on my AM2+ mobo, i have a modded BIOS and I cannot go any higher than this CPU at all on it unfortunately.

My only choice due to my money constraints at this moment is to buy a mobo that will be future proof for future socket revisions(Idk if I should Intel for performance, or AMD for affordability), like my current mobo was. And then buy a current CPU so i can be set for a bit. (it's a 2006/2007 AM2+ mobo, its been running strong since then.)

This is why I can't take people who throw around the "unoptimized" crap all willy nilly. Half the time you guys got super old/weak hardware.

I understand what you mean, but this PC happens to be capable of running AC4 at 1080p from 30-60fps on high settings with physx on High.

Watchdogs doesnt even use Physx, or at least I havent read about it supporting it yet. And it has super-high performance requirements when you compare it to the requirements of other graphically formidable games of this year.

It's no mystery that Ubisoft's engineers need to get their shit together as being part of this equation, it's not just some PC gamer's "old hardware".

My CPU is 5k~

Welp, guess that justifies PS4 at least. Not spending the money to upgrade both GPU AND CPU [and possibly Mobo]

Dang, only a 9k for my i7 2600...My 680 will probably need to run this on High setting I guess.
Will need to upgrade this year I guess. My PC is getting outdated, sigh.

But still LOL at this optimization with the REQUIREMENT of 6GB of rams and a 10k CPU for a game that isn't even that good looking in the 1st place.
Oh well, it is known fact that they can't efficient port PC game anyway =(

The fact you've lasted so long with that is amazing in itself. But really, in this instance it ain't the game's fault.
