Watching Freaks and Geeks for the first time

I just started watching this for the first time. What a fantastic show. I'm on episode 13 and I'm so sad it will be over forever after 5 more :(

If anyone has TeenNick on cable, it's airing re-runs of Freaks and Geeks (and Undeclared as well) in a block right now. I was worried it would turn into the Degrassi channel :-p

My favorite episode was 'Smooching and Mooching', where they go to that make out party and
Bill ends up in the closest with the popular girl/Cheerleader ( I cant remember if she was a cheerleader or not), and they start being real honest with each other and then they make out and that awesome Bob Seeger songs starts playing, 'You'll Accompany Me' in the background.

Such a great moment.

Well, I finished the series. Now I'm depressed. Those were some of the best characters I've ever seen crafted on TV :( Could spend forever with them.

Man that show was really good, I highly enjoyed it. Kinda want to watch it again but I should read more instead of re-watching a series. Also Seth Rogen got real handsome as he got older, hope he doesn't lose weight.

Didn't you think that episode at the make out party was awesome...

Bill Haverchuck having his grilled cheese sandwich tv dinner whilst watching Garry Shandling standup is by far the best moment in the series.

Also 70s pop culture references are spot on. From the soundtrack to the small nods (Daniel being referred to McMurphy by the fake ID seller due to his beanie)

Yes, that was perfect. Handled so well.

I was alone eating dinner while watching that episode. It was kind of surreal.

(This post was meant to be in yesterdays Linda Cardellini thread but I just checked and it's been deleted.)

I have met Linda Cardellini.

I interviewed her for Expendable's website, first interview I ever did.

It was the best half hour of my entire life. Article still embargoed until about February, but I can say:

1. She looks stunning in real life. Oh my god, seriously. Her american accent is so hot. I was so in love. Even when I was talking to the director of the movie (who was great), all I could think was 'oh my god, oh my god, that is goddamn Linda Cardelini sitting right there'.
2. She is lovely
3. She said I was 'cute' and gave me a hug.
4. SHE SAID I WAS CUTE AND GAVE ME A HUG.

It's been about a month now since it happened and I can still barely believe it happened. We talked about Kenan and Kel, Freaks and Geeks, her research and experiences with her new film, her upcoming baby. She's just too cool.

Linda Cardellini, man. Linda. Cardellini.

Oh and she picked up my old N95 phone after I left it on the table as I was leaving the interview, and she handed it to me. I now refer to it as The Phone That Was Once Lovingly Fondled By The Delicate Silky Fingers Of Linda Cardellini.

I watched this show for the first time this summer (right after HS). One of my favorite shows easily. So funny and heartfelt. Captures the feeling of HS.

Pictures or I don't believe you

Took some on my GF1, but I should save them for my article. Got a few photos of me and her, but they'll remain on my fb I think.

She spoke really fondly of her time on Freaks and Geeks. She said she was at a French film festival recently and bumped into the girl who plays Milly in the show, and then they both went on holiday in Paris together.

Looking back on it, I felt like Linda and I really developed a connection that kinda transcended the usual interviewer-subject relationship, and became almost as if we were genuine friends. I remember thinking afterwards that the world got smaller, darker. I grew more afraid. Not of what I am, but of what I could be. All I could see was her - the image of perfection. Her hips strong, her lips smooth. And I kept thinking, what am I so afraid of? I wished I could escape the pain, but these thoughts invaded my head. Bound to my memory, they're like shackles of guilt. Oh, God, please set me free. Free from the pain and this guilt, so that I may face tomorrow.

Now I want to be your FaceBook friend. Or just wait for the article. Don't forget to bump this when it is posted.

Also, I could never get the hang of Thursdays.

I feel like Freaks and Geeks is one of those shows that would have succeeded if it was on the right network. Unfortunately, it was on NBC. It's a perfect TV show for a more niche network like AMC in my opinion.

I think I've asked this somewhere before, but is it possible or does anyone know the songs that plays throughout each and every episode? There's a lot of good under appreciated 70's rock stuff thats played in the background.

Goddamn. I do think this thread has prompted me to do another run through. I've only watched the entire series of Freaks and Undeclared once. Time to do it again!

Jealous much? Ha
Well, a girl's willingness to tell a guy he's "cute" is akin to patting a dog on the head. But I was obviously joking with the "Ouch" as it's still Linda Cardellini. Didn't think you'd take it personally. For the record, I think it's awesome that you got to meet and interview her.

I thought Milly was Deb from Dexter, wtf?

Her name is Sarah something I think. She was in Buffy season 7 too for a bit.

To wet your appetite even further, here is a photo I took of Linda C with my GF1:

My article on the interview is going to be epic. I suppose the obvious way to describe it would be to imagine if Leo Tolstoy and Vladimir Nabokov co-wrote an novelisation of 'Interview with a Vampire', but with Linda Cardellini instead of the Vampire, and instead of lame anecdotes about vampires there were awesome anecdotes about Kenan and Kel. Coming soon to a website near you.

I saw a website that had a list of all the songs used in the show once. Have you checked the iMDB soundtracks page?

And I agree on the soundtrack part. I remember reading that they were told the only way they could get a DVD of the show released profitably was if they changed many of the original songs to cheaper alternatives, because the song rights were too expensive. The showmakers said no way, and decided they would only release it in it's original form with the original songs, and after a long while and lots of negotiating they finally found a company who was willing to do the DVD set justice. In fact, if I remember correctly they actually changed one song ('You're nobody til somebody loves you') because they had originally really wanted it but couldn't afford to use it when it first broadcast on tv, but for the DVD they bought the rights for it. Pretty cool.

Just finished with this show after a friend recommended it. What an amazing trip, honest laughs, wtf drama moments, really believable characters. Anytime someone felt happy on that show I couldn't help but laugh with them. Even though it's cancelled, it kind of feels perfect, finished in a way. Most loose ends were taken care of anyway. I really recommend it to anyone wondering about it, some of the best TV period.

And WOW at that pic of Linda up there, she's just glowing.

why do you keep mentioning your GF1? granted it's an awesome camera, but sounds odd. make sure to get the 20mm f/1.7 lens ASAP.

I'm one of the late comers too and I love this show. A little nitpicking but I always found the characters no so believable because most of the kids, if not all, seem much more mature for their age. I don't have a problem with that though, it's what makes the show so endearing.

I have the 20mm 1.7 lens. I keep wanting to upgrade my camera but I'm gonna wait for another year to see what else comes up, as the GF2, GF3, GX1 etc haven't been quite there yet. I can't decide whether to get a smaller camera than the GF1 that can easily be taken out to go clubbing etc, or get a slightly bigger one (eg with the pannyleica lens everyone goes on about - the 1.4 I think) and a separate one for clubbing. Advise me.

Yeah, I haven't thought about it that way but you're right. I was a complete spaz around that age. These days I'm a badass, strutting around with my GF1 like I own this bitch, bitch.

On the second to last episode now with the last one next. Only my second viewing of the series. Such a shame. Such a shame.

About to watch the final disc tonight. This is probably the best show I've ever seen, I just wish there was more of it :(

dat Lindsay Weir

Ugh. Yeah, it's always bittersweet to rewatch this series. I get so attached and invested in these characters only for it to end all too soon.
