Watching Tron: Legacy (again) on FX right now...

I didn't even know this movie existed until I saw it. I never cared about the original Tron movie and I had no expectations. With those factors considered, I really liked this film. I thought Bridges did a great job and it was an awesome movie to stare at. As far as action movies go, this one was way above par.

The visuals are pretty great at first, but get boring well before the end. It's missing the variety that the original Tron had. The script is also terrible. Terrible. TERRIBLE.

Not a very good film, sadly. The score was good though.

I really liked it too. Went to see it twice which is something I rarely do. The story was a bit weak but it had a certain tone that I liked.
Did Daft Punk actually do any work on the soundtrack? It sounded like typical Hans Zimmer-like stuff.
Man, I thought it had one of the most unique ost's of the year. I was bobbing my head and tapping my foot in the theater.

100% incorrect! They worked with Gavin Greenaway, who worked on the magnificent Thin Red Line soundtrack, and Joseph Trapanese. But obviously, those two names aren't going to get assses in seats, are they?

I meant more it fit in with the rest of their work. I knew Trapanese worked on it, and Uprising.

It looks and sounds amazing enough to make up for its deficiencies... but it sure would've been nice if the story had been there. The story's beat for beat pretty much just the first movie with a few names changed.

I also agree that everyone should watch Tron Uprising. It's pretty much my favorite thing to come from the Tron series. It takes the amazing look and sound and feel of Tron Legacy, but adds in a story and characters that I actually care about.

(Disagree that it's better than Batman Beyond, though. That's a pretty high bar.)

I love the first 40 minutes or so. It gets pretty damn boring after they escape from the arena. That said, I still saw it twice in the theater, it was great in an IMAX.

Kosinski is looking to be back as well. :D

Really hope they get Cillian Murphy back too.

Didn't know Garrett was back though, link? :D

Now I will go back to waiting

She seemed like a massive fan of Tron and the movie (various convention panels, doing the The Next Day thing, etc.) so I'm hoping that means she'll be back.

Wasnt there word going around for a while that the sequel would center around her?

Would have been great if the story was better, but I went in for the visuals and music. It didn't disappoint there at all.

I'm a huge Tron nerd. Loved Legacy, loved Uprising. The objective flaws in certain elements are overridden for me by the hyper-cutting-edge world design and execution. I want to live on the Grid, man.

Sorry, but no. The art direction was the only thing I liked about the movie. The script was terrible from beginning to end, as was the story. The characters were all very dull as well.

Probably because you can't relate to the characters. I don't need to be told anything to get what the characters must feel. I nearly lost it in the arcade when Journey began playing, it's like I was relieving my childhood.

I also really liked the father/son stuff. It was subtle so I guess I shouldn't be surprised people missed it, but it resonated with me.

Tron MMO with next gen graphics for the Rift would mean I'd never leave the Grid.

Kosinski is doing massive hinting about the "potential" of Legacy's ending, which is kinda a tipoff that they want to do stuff in the real world now. The Next Day also pointed this way as well, and Quorra's at the middle of it obviously as she's the first being from the Grid in the real world.

Well the short film they made after the movie was quite interesting, I'm anxious to see what they come up with.

The beginning part of the movie is fantastic. But it takes a nose dive after that. The soundtrack is the only reason I would re-watch it.

#QuorraLives perhaps?

Hated it when I first saw it. Ended up seeing it a second time in cinemas and noticed more of the details.

Got the bluray and watched it a bunch f times at home. It definetly aged well IMO. Not a great sci-fi movie but still good. Falls over in lots of places but I think they got the big scenes right.

The design has grown on me.

I think they are still pushing ahead with another TRON right? It's a Pitty the animated series didn't do too well but I only watched a few episodes as I hated the visual style they used. I might wait for a retail release and try it again.

I like Tron: Legacy and have it on 3D-BR, but I can't help but admit that all it has going for it, to me, are a few interesting characters and a shit ton of eye-candy.

Edit: D'oh, and the OST!

Filmmakers need to use this an example of how to do 3D. It was used sparingly and appropriately (and only in the Grid).

The preview for the Pirates of the Caribbean was a great example of how not to do 3D. Goddamn everything was jumping off the screen.

The movie itself is only okay...the parts in the real world were terrible.

Olivia Wilde, Rinsler, and Daft Punk are great in it.

The design of everything - sets, costumes, vehicles is absolutely god tier.

Boy I love this movie, one of the few movies I actually own. Just cultivates a great feel with dem visuals and dem beats, and dat Quorra hnnng. I like the whole idea of Flynn literally being "god" in there, it's fun to watch the movie thinking of the grid as the "real world" and Flynn and his kid being like if God and his son came to earth and started rockin around in it.

The only let down was the weak script/story. But the other elements (soundtracks/visuals/world/feel of it) are so damn beautiful that it sorta made it ok.

Definitely deserves a sequel with a better story and all the same elements of Legacy.

I put this movie in the same category with Speed Racer for being a huge visual treat that was somewhat under appreciated. Not nearly as ignored as Speed Racer but not really given the credit it was due.

Legacy is an awesome 2 hour Daft Punk music video.

Indeed, you guys need to check out Uprising, it focuses on the Programs and not the Users.
