WB developing a big budget adaptation of Dante's Inferno

I highly doubt that any sort of "big budget" movie could ever properly showcase what actually makes Inferno work.
Se7en did a pretty good job in it's own way

All this hate on the game, I actually loved the game.

In fact, I think I would enjoy the game's interpretation adapted into a movie.

Assuming a modern interpretation but with "psychotic imagery".

Del Toro and Fincher with...

Michael Fassbender as Dante
Why? He can act and has "brand recognition".

Werner Herzog as Virgil (narrator, not on screen):
The obvious choice is Morgan Freeman, but Herzog's "poetic style" fits too perfectly here. He would just need to adopt a more neutral accent.

Saoirse Ronan as Beatrice:
Beatrice would have to be young so that nixes as lot of older, reliable talent. IMO Ronan seems up and coming with enough talent for a bigger role.

Lucifer (minor roles... 3 actors for the 3 faces): Forrest Whitaker, Reese Witherspoon, Tye Sheridan
When I think of the devil I don't think of "an evil looking actor", I think of everyday people... doing terrible things.

There are so many other characters in the story it is hard to think of an actor for every possible role. But as a main group, I think this works well.

I've not completed the Commedia, but I don't recall *anything* about Dante visiting Hell to rescue Beatrice. If anything its the opposite.

It really is a wonder that they haven't tried to milk this dry already.

And I actually did like the game. It was basically a b-grade God of War, nothing wrong with that.

Aranofsky is the only person that could do it. But everyone shat on Noah so he probably will never venture into this territory again.

The classic 14th-century tale The Divine Comedy follows Dante as he descends through the nine circles of hell to rescue the woman he loves.

That's not the right description is it? I've never actually read it all myself. Sooo we're assuming this will be based off of the video game and not the actual poem?

Yet still no At the Mountains of Madness movie.

Is this a sequel to Dante's Peak or a reboot? If so, I hope they keep Pierce Brosnan involved. Maybe give Linda Hamilton a cameo.

I always thought a big 100 million dollar R RATED horror film would be interesting. Take that money for CGI superhero shit and just go nuts with surreal/horror shit.

I hope it's going to be R Rated. Hell, I'll take a PG 13 theatrical release and unrated home release.

This will be awful and if and when it's released the movie execs that greenlighted the project will be surprised that it bombed.

This game had a lot of potential, and I liked the art. Nobody expected the developers of Dead Space to drop the ball so badly.

It surprised me how poorly the story inside the game was told, when the circles of hell where so neatly designed. They should go by the book adaptation instead. Maybe give it to Alex Garland

I'm pretty sure most ridiculed the idea from the get-go.

He was purportedly involved in a Paradise Lost adaptation that was to be directed by Alex Proyas. Budgetary issues were mainly to blame for the project's demise.

Now I'm sad, there was a Paradise Lost adaptation by Alex Proyas in the works? What a shame.

I can see Inferno, but I always wonder about Purgatorio and Paradiso. I'd love to see someone talented tackle the entire trilogy.

Wonder if anyone pointed out to the doofuses who came up with this idea that Beatrice sends Virgil to rescue Dante. Beatrice doesn't need rescuing, she's already in heaven.
