Dave was my Creative Writing Professor so I have faith in this project.

I've got to say, if I were taught creative writing by a guy who seems to be making a career off of retreading old ideas, I think I'd go and ask for my money back from the school.

some good news about this?

Remake of Stephen King's IT will be Rated R and set in mid-1980s

Screenwriter Dave Kajganich tells Dread Central that the big screen remake of Stephen King’s It will be “set in the mid-1980s and in the present almost equally — mirroring the twenty-odd-year gap King uses in the book”. But more importantly, the film “will not be PG-13. This will be R.” Kajganich explains that the R-Rating “means we can really honor the book and engage with the traumas (both the paranormal ones and those they deal with at home and school) that these character endure.”

Of course, the book is 1,104 pages and Kajganich confirms that Warner Bros wants to adapt the novel for a single film, which means a lot of the source material will have to be cut. The television movie was criticized for being vastly different from the book in order to keep the running time down to 192 minutes. I seriously doubt the theatrical film version will be even close to that long. Two of the other big criticisms of the television movie were that it had been sanitized for public airing (sex/violence) and suffered from budgetary limitations. From the sound of it, the new film will address some of those concerns.

still plenty of concerns with length and compression of such a long story, but color me very interested.

I have no problem with this in principle, as I love the book, and the current production was crap. But there is so much interesting history and lore in the book, it will be a shame none of that will be included. My only concern really is length. I don't know how you can make it anything other than a scary clown movie if you have <120minutes. A scary clown movie would be cool, but it's not IT.

As was said before, a 10-12 part series would be awesome.

The spider killed it for me. It went from awesome to extremely lame really quick.

Maybe they should just re-do the ending... :lol

Also, I really need to read the book I've heard it's absolutely wonderful and the ending is much better.

Man, I still curse the day when my teacher showed this movie in class. We were fucking 10 or 11 years old. Gave me nightmares and bad thoughts for weeks.

Where the hell did you grow up?

The existing movie is lame, except for Tim Curry, so this isn't a big deal. But it'd be better if something original was done, as opposed to yet another fucking remake.

W-why? That movie was perfect. Maybe update the CGI effects sure... but a full blown remake? Completely and utterly unnecessary.

Perfect? Not the second half. Compared to the book's fairly complicated explination of what IT really is at the end, they reduce it to OMG A BIG FUCKING SPIDER in the miniseries. The first half, with the kid's backstory, however, is really good.

now taking nominations for the new pennywise.

who do you think could pull it off? gotta be a very particular brand of creepy.

Im cautiously optimistic. The mini series was pretty good but fell apart at the end. It could be improved upon easily. Tim Curry was good but its not as if its a performance that could never be topped.

Plus they're remaking Hellraiser and Child's PLay too? Fucking hell.

I haven't read anything by Stephen King in about 15 years. I think I will reread It and The Stand.

And the miniseries sucks in comparison to the book. This will need to be a 2.5 to 3 hour movie.
