We need to talk about SFV loading time on PS4

I can show evidences there are little to no loading between Survival matches.

Survival actually does the load time for the next round while you're on the menu picking a battle supplement. If you choose immediately you will be waiting a while. If you take some time to make your choice, the next round begins almost immediately.

It's, like, the one instance of smart behavior in their loading design.

Its variable. After 5 matches when it loads a new arena the wait is much longer than the other matches.

I agree, and it's largely what has kept me from coming back to the game in these past few days. I'm a complete SF noob and I'm trying to learn the basics/improve my general fighting game skills, but SF5 has been insanely tedious to get into.

Payed full price for it on launch day and feel like I've barely played it. =/

Wasn't the game almost not made at all until Sony intervened with some cash for console exclusivity? I wonder why Capcom didn't feel like spending big money on the project.

Capcom is the epitome of bad business decisions. Last I heard any profits they make from monster hunter goes into funding mobile games.

In the first couple days of release I had atrocious load times (even when loading into training), but as it is now it's more or less the same wait times as SF4, provided you're searching from the menu.

My Survival Mode games have always just taken place on one stage throughout the entire length. Did they change something...?

I think it's bad but not intolerable. Then again, I usually change the input source on the TV when matches are loading, so there's that.

I agree the loading time as atrocious for the first week or so. But ever since then the game has loaded much more quickly for me. I don't believe there has been updated so I don't what to make of it. But when I first got it, the game would take ridiculously long to load everything - survival, local versus, online. Everything. Now it load pretty quickly. Has anyone else experienced this?

I think it's like a minute to a minute and a half in between ranked matches. Kinda silly but I just pull out my phone and do some quick texts, emails, etc. so that breaks the tedium down a bit. Though, that doesn't make SFV's load times okay by any means, it's just that I've found something to do in between :\

And us who play on PC have to deal with people as the game hangs for about 10 seconds before the versus screen appears.

We could argue that it's just as bad as Alpha 2 on Snes.

It's absolutely crazy. They should strip everything down so moving from one match to the next or dropping out of modes is immediate. You would think picking your favorite character or stage would pre-load that info so it doesn't need to when a match starts. Otherwise what's the point?

My easy plays happened in one arena... it was a bit weird because I guessed it was suppose to change every battle.

I just saw arena changes in Normal/Hard.

See the OP videos and you'll agree that it could be really faster.
That video have 1h20 and he spent 43 minutes fighting... there is a lot of time spent in loadings, winning poses, etc.

All this power and we seem to be moving back to the 90's.

latest

Need to go back to the simple menus like back in the 90's for character select, I hate that I'm even thinking this...

I'm sharing my own experience with the game why I need to see the OP video?

I played yesterday night... the loading in Survivial is almost non existent... what take some time is the intro that you can skip.

It takes less than 10s between matches skipping the intro... it is so fast.

I am reviving this old thread because of all the new Season 2 announcements I have not seen a single mention of loading times improving. Capcom has not even officially addressed this and man does it bother me waiting to just play the game. I hope I did miss some news on this.

Man, we're not even getting d-input on the PC version. What made you think they'd fix this?

The amount of loading on a decent computer is unacceptable.
They need to cut the loading times as much as possible.
A lot of unnecessary animations and transitions artificially increase the loading times even more and it doesn't matter if you use a SSD or a normal hdd.
The only loading time which is ok is if you start one of the challanges.
It basically straight up loads everthing in a few seconds on my hdd.
One of the modt important aspects of a fighting game like Street Fighter is being able to get into a game fast.
They need to have a great online infrastructure, netcode, matchmaking system and very low loading times like Rocket league.
Wasn't the main purpose of Street Fighter V thst the game is built for online gaming?
How the hell did they messed this up so badly?

Exactly, I have not actually measured write/read data but there are plenty of load times that are obviously there for no reason. The OP has plenty of videos that showcase the present state of the game.

I don't think anyone mentioned improved load times at PSX so doubt we'll get anything. It's got to be inexperience using UE since Capcom developed the game in house? Like others have said, the graphics aren't the most demanding, and other titles like DoA the loading is practically nonexistent

Do you also feel that SFV is frustrating because the loading times? What do you think GAF?

Yes. I don't mind losing, but the painfully slow process of going back and forth between sets and training can really bring you out of the moment. It's very obnoxious and can lead to frustration.

Especially hate the fact that it seems like it has to "load" the loading screen every time.

Recently played on PS4 after being on PC since launch and wow, it's really terrible. I've got all SSDs and a 390x video card so maybe that's a big help, but it felt like a huge step down playing on a stock slim console.

Months later I sold the game mainly because of that (and the non perfect 60fps, the lack of a proper arcade mode, the boring SP modes and the fact that its value was dropping real quick.) Too bad because I like the fighting mechanics... But that loading time, uhg it's just terrible.
