I have never seen this box art before. That is so old-logo.

You know what sucks? I sold this

And I miss the "Wheel of Fish!" cover. To heck with video fidelity! I still love my VHS grain and pan+scan!!!

[/old timer]

although I do love the commentary. "Methadone actor" is the best Emo joke ever

Oh man love that Word Crimes video. I think both vids so far are good, but as a song by itself I like word crimes a bit more. Some parts of Tacky felt a little phoned in.

Inactive is one of my favorites. I've never heard the original, but I'm pretty sure it's an effect they used since the original is called "Radioactive".

I could be wrong though.

But I liked the effect it gave the song.

Yea its only a first impression so far.

My ten year old LOVES the whole CD. He can't believe weird al has been doing this since the 80s.

I'm pissed I can't watch the music videos. My internet has been down since Saturday and the YouTube link won't let me watch over the phone. First world problems.

So this is a unique album for me, because it's the first album I first listened to by putting it through a music game, in this case, Beat Hazard.

Favorites:
Handy
My Own Eyes
NOW That's What I Call Polka!
Inactive
Tacky

Listened to it all day at work, it's pretty great stuff. What are the other must have weird al albums?
Straight Outta Lynwood and Bad Hair Day are personal favorites of mine. Running with Scissors is a close second, for Hardware Store if nothing else. And Albuquerque.

As if you can only buy one.

Serious answer, pick one from each era (80s, 90s, 00s) and buy those.

I personally think Polka Party is the weakest of his early efforts, though it does have Christmas at Ground Zero.

If I had to pick three albums from the eras I mentioned as a starting point I'd probably go with

80s - Dare to be Stupid (or In 3-D)
90s - Off the Deep End
00s - Straight Outta Lynwood

Not to say that other material from the 80s isn't better than much if his later parody work but it's likely a personal thing and shows my age.

Running With Scissors also a valid option, though it came out at a time when I was sort of 'over' Al and I've since grown up and gotten over that.

If you don't care about hearing an album in its entirety you could just go with The Essential Weird Al. It's something like 38 tracks and a mix of Parodies and originals.

That's a legitimately great song. I remember listening to that a lot when I was a little kid, but hearing it now is so funny. It's brilliant.

I'd actually love him to compile every polka medley he ever did into one album, that would be intense.

I want a love songs album. Get together all his creepy and hilarious "love" songs.

I'm still amazed that he's managed to do this for 30 some odd years, and still keep up with the changes in music.

That's why he's my favorite singer. Dude's nailed everything from bubble-gum pop to grunge to rap to The Doors.

Love my Xbox Music subscription. Whole album is available right now, and I just started playing "Handy", which is pretty funny so far. Watched the Tacky music video last night, which was awesome.

Will post impressions once I finish the album!

Running With Scissors was my first. I'd heard his stuff before but never owned an album. But after seeing the music video for The Saga Begins, I had to get into his stuff. I own a nice handful of his albums.

Loving the new album, although for me several (all?) the tracks have kind of a dark fuzzy sound to them. Tried it in a ps3, two ps2s and a truck. It sounds best in the truck where the road noise masks the fuzz. :/ bf suspects badly mastered disc, has anyone else had this problem or is it an unlucky fluke?

Really digging the Pixies homage, "First World Problems."
Is that the 90's band song Patton Oswalt was talking about? Maybe not, since they were kind of an 80s-90s thing more than just 90s.

What song is the guitar riff from my own eyes from? I know i've heard it before and have been going through foo fighter songs but havent found it yet.

edit: Figured it out. It's slither by velvet revolver.

Weird Al's great and all, but Claudia O'Doherty's the funniest comedian on her continent and behind Maria Bamford (my favorite comedian ever) and a couple of others as the best female comedians working today.

Claudia: Mum mum, people say I'm the funniest comedian...

Mum: Struth! That's bonz...

Claudia: in Australia/Oceania.

Mum: Oh, that's nice dear. At least you tried your best.

Claudia: But, they also say I'm one of the best female comedians (after a handful of others) working today.

Mum: If people through you were one of the best comedians they wouldn't diminish your achievements by limiting you to a list female comedians, dear. They'd just call you one of the best comedians.

Claudia shuffles off back to her room with a sleeve of tim tams and a jar of vegemite.

And scene.

ANYWAY: *fist bump* for the Bama-Lama

Some of the best Weird Al stuff in forever. Perhaps bacause I know more of the source songs and acts.

Love Tacky and Word Crimes.

Sports Song is hilarious, although it makes me think of Fight Fiercely Harvard. My son started seriously losing it at "We're great, and you suck."

First World Problems is the best of the Style parodies, although Mission Statement comes close. I relate to the latter all too well. Both nail the styles perfectly.

Despite being a fan of Southern Culture on the Skids, Lame Claim to Fame is pretty weak. Handy is a complete dud.

Jackson Park Express is fun, takes a while to pay off though.

Inactive seems ginda generic Al, amusing enough but outshone by the better tracks.

It's the two dollar words of the first verse degenerating into the taunting chorus that does it for me.

Video was kinda token, though. I'd rather see this performed by marching bands at actual games.

Jumped the gun a little. Foil is today's video.
Fantastic :D my fav from the album so far :D
The video for Word Crimes looks EXPENSIVE.

Anything like that - I know from experience, is difficult and time consuming to edit.
That a semi auto technique from Adobe after effect that is far far far cheaper then any IRL music video.
Words is about week worth of editing.
IRL music video is far more expensive and intense to edit.

In November 2013, "Weird Al" Yankovic asked me to direct an animated video for "Word Crimes", a parody of Robin Thicke's "Blurred Lines" about the supposed abuse of proper language.

The result of 500 hours of work in After Effects, Photoshop, Illustrator and Premiere goes by in 3 minutes, 44 seconds. I hope you find each one of them entertaining.

WOW thanks!, 500 hours holy shit I mean seriously AE has some plug-ins that do that stuff almost automatic
But I guess its far more complex in the video (witch it shows obviously :P).

It really is the perfect lyrics to the perfect beat with the perfect delivery and the GOAT animation.

I mean... Weird Al is fantastic; But this is beyond outstanding. Such a brilliant song. And justifies Blurred Line's existence - we had to have the worst of the worst to get the best of the best.

Foil's good.

There's 12 songs and 8 videos. I wonder which 4 won't get a video. (Polka's an obvious choice of course.)

I hope Inactive gets one. Same with Jackson Park Express.
