Weird--maybe stupid--gaming habits you have

I don't think it's stupid, but... I ALWAYS wash my hands before playing. I'm paranoid about clean controllers to play, so eating while playing is a big no-no for me.

Same here, EVERY GODDAMN DOOR, even in "X" series.

Also i'm a conpulsive hoarder. I've finished games with items/ammo that could have made a boss battle faster and easier

I sanitize my controller with alcohol wipes before every use. I'm the only one who uses it, but I can't stand thinking about the bacteria that have grown on it since my last gaming session.

Dunno about anyone else but when playing single player RPGs like Fallout 3, etc if someone else is in the room watching me play, I can't concentrate and end up sabotaging missions or just suiciding so they become disinterested and go away. I can't tell them to go somewhere else >.<

This is like for roommates and gfs and even when my brother visits.

I've got a really bad hoarding and reloading mania. I'm playing EDF2017 right now, and I'll put 200 bullets into a building if the magazine holds 300 and I'm approaching some aliens.

In games that keep statistics, like GTA for example, I ALWAYS reload if I die so I can finish the game with 0 deaths.

That can make some games really, really frustrating.

This is me.

I always make sure I took a shower before I watch a game's ending.

That's a really odd one. Any reasoning why?

I'm the opposite. People watching me, especially my fiance, makes me play better for some reason. I call her my mojo. If I'm getting my ass handed to me, I'll make her sit down and watch just so I can pass.

I pretty much never use consumable items in RPG's, and keep "saving" them for the eventual "oh shit, I need my elixir" moment that never comes.

I can't for the life of me finish Final Fantasy 3 DS because you can't save anywhere, the final dungeon just seems to big for me. Somehow this was never an issue with Dragon Quest IV DS, maybe DQIV is just a more enjoyable experience, or the fact that you can save on the world map before the final encounter.

Anyway, lack of quick saving kills me, I hate checkpoints / world map only saving in games and I blame emulators. Save states have fostered my OCD'ish saving habits for sure:( .

Edit:

This was my FFVII run in a nutshell, then the final boss is laughably easy.

I hate using healing items, or really just paying for healing at all. I finished Fallout 3 with over two hundred Stimpaks because I'd always try and quick-travel back to my house in Megaton to sleep when I was injured. In Pokemon games I'll think nothing of buying 99 Escape Ropes so I can jump out of caves and fly back to a Pokemon Centre when I could just have bought 99 Hyper Potions or something.

I never do evil things in free-roam games.

For example, in the 50 hours I put into RDR, I did something evil to an innocent just once on purpose and that was to get the Dasterdly achievement. Sometimes if I'm playing GTA and a ped gets in the way while I'm driving DURING A MISSION, I'll just hit him or the entire crowd. But I never actively attack/rob anyone anymore.

I think I'm too old, because I keep thinking "oi, it will take forever to get rid of the cops, it's not worth it".

Also, not really weird, but I fucking steal everything in RPGs. Especially Bethesda games. I get overburdened quickly and then just toss the lowest priced items out...but then will pick some more up to make sure I'm just under the burden meter: 299/300 for example.

I NEED to have my backpack full when I show up at the shop to sell.

When RPGs used to have towns, I had to, HAD TO, fully explore the area, talk to NPCs, & check for side-quests before I moved on to the story event. I've always been very OCD about missing things, and was paranoid about cut-scenes warping me out of areas prematurely (before I had a chance to ransack homes and escape with peoples' belongings). One time I was around 15 hours into a game, forget which one, but I found out I missed an item 10 hours back that was required to unlock a weapon or costume or something.... I restarted from the beginning....fml

I've since gotten better about it, but I still hate to miss things.

You know when a game presents a maze in some way, and you've obviously found the exit? I always go back in and try all the dead ends, just to see what's there.

And at that point I don't even need all the items because I grinded like a mad man before the boss.

Ain't all that the truth...

I hoard.

Gold, potions, power-ups, weapons, clothes, cigarettes, scrolls, skill points, ammo, grenades, vehicles if I can keep them, useless items that do fun stuff, crafting materials... you name it.

I leave my best stuff for really big fights or the end of the game and a lot of times I never use them.

When I talk with people with a microphone, I sometimes do handgestures without realising they probably can't see me. Making me feel stupid for having pointed on my screen and said "Go here".

I came in to say the opposite. I always do evil things in free-roam games. In GTAIV and RDR alone, I probably have killed thousands of civilians. I try to find all of the craziest and most creative ways to kill those chumps.

Tend to never use good items until the final battle where I only need a fraction of them.

if I get an stat raising item I wont use it until the very last level.

I tend not to change my party a lot. Even on games where everyone levels the same. For example, I don't think I changed my team in Valkyria chronicles at all after around halfway through.

Mash the confirm button during FFXIII fights for some reason.

If it's a first person RPG I'm hopping everywhere.

Constant reload. BANG! reload. BANG BANG! reload.

If I mess with the TV volume while playing it has to be set to an even number.

Talk to all NPCs twice just to be sure.

What?

RPGs still have towns.

Edit: Oh, I read your post. You should play more WRPGs...they have towns still.

I'm trying to move away from this but...

Try not to use Gamefaqs
- Ruined Silent Hill and some other games for me

Try not to be OCD about every item, achievement, and secret
- Ruined FF12 for me

Try not to hoard the best heal items in RPGs
- Was playing Chrono Trigger. Faced Lavos. Near death. Then it ht me, "why the FUCK am I not using the best healing items?! What else am I goddamn saving it for?!" Ended up beating Lavos. I've tried to use this against other bosses as well and not to hoard. Period. If a 2nd boss or boss in the middle of the game needs me to use that super elixir, it's gonna get used.

I do these things as well. Replace the reload with a run button if the game has one...or if it's KOTOR I swing my lightsabers around again and again.

Also, speaking of FP RPGs, I travel across rooftops in certain towns in Morrowind. The ones with Hlaalu influence like Balmora, with their small square buildings. I can't not jump around that place.

That was me for the longest time. I got kind of bored of it. Ironically just before JC2 came out, which had the most creative uses for innocents ever.

The worst is when it isn't obvious which direction is the side path and which is the main path. So I often pick one way, and am compelled to turn around fairly quickly if it doesn't dead end after a couple turns/rooms to go and check if the other path was the side path instead.

This has resulted in me bouncing back and forth over two paths 2 or 3 times on a number of occasions.

Never much thought about it before, but I definitely do this as well. I guess I always figured this was normal. In RPGs, that's how you avoid having to level grind.

Buying games and never opening/playing/finishing them. It's a habit. I guess I just like the feeling of knowing I just bought a game.

I still haven't even played the first level of SMB Galaxy and I bought it day of release.
Got to the very end of FF12 and dropped it for no good reason.

I'm starting to do this with blu-ray movies now too. I have about 5 or so I still haven't even watched, still in the packaging.

Not so much weird since it serves a purpose. When playing console fps games, I twitch my aim to make really small circles with the crosshair. It's used to keep your aim on form when you're not actually aiming at anything. Now I do it for fun,

- Never use the good items I picked up along the way
- Save every material in hopes of making the ultimate weapon, never do
- Try to collect everything for the first half of the game, not care anymore for the second and just play the game.
- Mash Down+B when throwing a pokeball
- Not play a squeal until I finish the prequel
- Trying to find if I can pause cut scenes before starting the game
- Roll Dashing instead of walk/running even if its slower
- Save 3 times in a row, then save again
- Play the first mission, play the rest of the game usually a year or two later
- Try to get through doors before they finish opening
- Always reloading, except when I need to
- Try to 100% complete a room map before moving on
- Make a new save slot everytime something happens in case I want to go back and do that again, never do
- Start every fighting game with a jump forward then low kick

I save my games super obsessively. About to open a door? Save. About to pick a lock in that room? Save. Successfully picked the lock? Save. Killed an enemy after successfully picking the lock? Save. I don't really know why I do this. I just really don't like to lose even a second of progress, even if it means saving every 2 feet.

I'm the exact same way. I actually get uneasy when friends come over and want to play something co-op after eating but don't wash their hands first (No, wiping your hands on your pants doesn't really help the chip grease on my controller dude :\).

In damn nearly every JRPG I've ever played, I get about 3/4 of the way through the game before I put it down never to play it again.

Reloading after every few bullets.

You never know when you might need those extra 3 bullets.

It gets me killed more often than not.

I don't quite do this but i do clean the 360 controller somewhat before playing. Or sometimes during. Started doing that only recently... I wonder if it's stress related.

I won't play a game on anything but the hardest difficulty even on the first time through. The blood pressure rises and the hatred grows. I'll never forget 23 hours wasted on Witcher 2 :(

When playing Mario games I always find myself to collect every coin, 1-up, starbits and mash every enemy I encounter, even if it isn't necessary to do. I don't know why I do this. I always go bored because collecting the coins can be tedious at sometimes, but I can't find myself to stop either.

I am convinced that holding down+B is more effective at catching pokémon and refuse to hear otherwise.

It works damnit.

Also when I play an MMO or RPG, I have to do the zones 'in order'. For example when I played World of Warcraft I had my set route of zones for levelling and refused to skip one even if I was high enough to do so.

Your next objective is in this direction ------->

=

I go this direction. <---------

This is also totally me. Obviously the game wants me to go this way... which means the secrets are kept this way!

I have to check everything. It takes me forever to finish a game (especially stuff like RPG's.) I visit every nook and cranny and end up at so many dead ends.

i do this too (btw nice avatar)
also in a RPG equip always with item that give you maximum attack even if it will lower the defence/speed/something by 90%

For some games I have to get everything but for most I don't. Its really strange because its not consistent. I did this with ME2, not getting a platinum, but making sure I scanned every single planet and deplete it. With Infamous 2 I did both story missions and got everything twice(blast shards, and dead drops x2) even though I didn't have to.
With Xenogears I always pressed back right before getting hit. It seemed to increase my chance of blocking but according to my brother its bs.

Any open-world game (RDR, GTA4, Saints Row etc.) I get distracted and never complete any of the story missions. I just end up dicking around for a few hours.

Yeah, that's neat. I'm way better when people are watching, too.

Im like this too, I get paranoid that if I use a particular item, I wont be able to get it on any form again, may it be an item drop, from a shop or a chest.

Well, because of this, my main habit in RPGs is to go fight, and if I get damaged even if its just 1 point, I go back to town to heal and save. Its pretty much like that for me.

Oh, I also auto-fight a lot... even in SMT games... because I hate have little to no MP to use for a boss.

I occasionally freak out when the AI controlled team members are following me, and try to run away from them, which of course is impossible. Usually I manage to tone down the feeling, but it's always lurking there.

If I really love a game, it will take me forever to beat it. I will rarely play it. Some sorta delayed gratification bullshit.

I used to horde "special" or "rare" items, but the endgame of RE4 broke that for me.

Washing your hands before you do X is actually a very good habit that regrettably few people have, including myself. Would save tons on guitar strings and time spent cleaning my mouse/controllers with a needle to scrap all the crap that gets stuck in the seams. Yuck.

I think this is normal. People usually act like I'm some kind of freak when they see me actually playing the missions in these games.

Actually I never dick around and I never kill civilians.
