Welcome back, hariseldon

@hariseldon , you want to feel like you belong? We laugh at your dumb jokes. We like your posts. We put up with your dumb insecurities. You belong, dude! Remember your Shakespeare:

"All the worlds a stage and all the people its players...."

Or, remember your Bill Hicks:

"It's just a ride....."

group-based hostility, rather than personal hostility is accepted to an unusual degree. This includes hatred against black people (hari all but named the clearest example here), hatred against trans people (same), hatred against social justice activists, hatred against muslims.

Sorry, I understand in your world minorities are untouchable totems of perfection that had to be cattered to at all cost, but here we can challenge their narratives or the narratives the likes of you invent in their name.

For example, critizing the victimhood of some the black community and they never ending rhetoric of blaming the white men for every downfall in their lives, doesn't make you hostile to black people, just to that narrative.

Another example; saying that biologically you can't change your gender or that transition a child is child abuse, doesn't make you hostile to trans people, makes you hostile to some of the practices that some trans people want to implement by force.

And yet another example; critizing that horrible set of ideas called Islam doesn't make you hate people with islamic beliefs, the same way that criticizing christianism doesn't make you hostile to every christian. And yes, you can also can have a problem with too many inmigrants from islamic countries that have no respect for human rights. Again, not because you hate the people, but the set of ideas they blindly believe and that are incompatible with democracies and human rights.

Welcome back and goodbye I guess @hariseldon

Reading your post, it seems that what you have a grip with this forum resides mostly in political shit.

I'm gonna be blunt about it, instead of leaving, just try to 'ingore' it, thats what I do for the most part.

I know its not that easy in this day and age, where (extreme) politics are engraved in everything and everywhere, but you gotta do what ya gotta do, cuz that is happening everywhere on the interwebs, not just here.

I don't have a lot of patience for people who try to martyr themselves in an effort to control what others think, say, and do. If you don't like what is being said, there's a lot of options available to you. Not reading it, for example. Joining the discussion, making your opinions as available as others'. There's nothing in this world more useful, more beautiful than two people disagreeing. Kingdoms are built on disagreement. But for god's sake, don't appeal to moderators to force your will on others and remove/punish the talk you don't like. There's nothing good at the end of that path.

It's funny, I'm on here all the time and yet until people started harping on about it, I had no idea we had someone posting intelligence stats based on race or a member who is obsessed with trans. If something bores me or annoys me, I ignore it.

It's very, very simple. Repeat after me boys and girls:

"If I don't like the subject of a thread, I don't have to click on it. If I don't like someone's posts, I don't have to read them."

Extremely easy mantra, isn't it? Kind of mature and logical, yes?

I find it hard to respect someone who takes their ball and goes home, but good luck finding a safe space on the Wild West of the internet.

Don't take it personal Hari, I always liked you. It's just the truth and the truth sometimes hurts.

Hey @hariseldon .

Is that the reason you come back to GAF?

Nothing against you. I like you btw. Just curious.

Hadn't spotted that but no surprise that cunt Walker is doing what he's doing, another 'games journalist' railing against the dying light, suddenly realising the failure of his efforts at destroying the enemy that exists only in his mind. As for coming back.. honestly I couldn't find the freedom elsewhere, calmed down a bit over time, and figured that to get the good bits I have to accept the bits I don't like, freedom not being freedom without the freedom to be an asshole I guess. I think this place has changed some of my thinking around freedom and moved it far higher in my values and along with reading some decent philosophy and trying to get a better understanding of the nature of morality I'd say that now I kinda need that freedom. I've seen how fucked up everything is elsewhere (RPS, Polygon, the BBC, etc) and now I can't unsee it, so I may as well spend time in one of the few places where other people see it and most of them aren't arseholes.

EDIT: I wanted to be low-key, didn't really want to make a big thing of coming back, but at the same time it's rude to not reply I guess. Ho hum.
