Well... I'm sending my PS4 back to Sony

I sent mine over to Sony to fix the very same issue. So far, it has been a few months and it hasn't begin ejecting my disk. *knocks on wood* My PS4 also had a beeping problem when it would shut off. Even when I removed the power cord from my PS4, it would still continue to beep. Idk if you have the same problem.

Mine started to beep like it wasn't properly shut down a few times, a couple of days before contacting Sony for the ejecting issue. Then, two days before the coffin got here it started to beep three times randomly while turned off. Maybe our systems were cousins.

I picked up a launch PS4 with the HDMI issue. At least you were kind of able to play yours. Thankfully Sony were quick and efficient and I had a new working one within days.

I'm thinking about doing the same. My PS4 refuses to power on when turned off (it's fine if it's in sleep mode). It just flashes the blue light and does. I'm keeping it on sleep for the first few weeks of destiny but if it keeps doing this I'm probably going to send it back :/

Does anyone else notice that the disc drive is extremely loud? I've had it a day and thought I'd just get used to it, but god. The table is full on vibrating from it.

man I am so lucky. my 360 never broke, my PS4 still works fine. knock on wood I guess

The only system I had that broke in all the years i had was a handheld i dropped and my Gamecube, and that GCN only broke because my dog pulled the wire and the system slammed to the ground :P

hope you get a new system that functions awesome for you now.

I'm not saying that other people don't have this problem, but I've never had my game disc eject randomly on me. I would definitely send your console back to Sony because no matter what you do, it's not supposed to do that.

OMG so update on my "Repair"

I have taken this thing apart and put it back together multiple times

I am intimately familiar with this darn thing and still cannot pinpoint the cause of my main issue

Pretty much was at my wits end and could not get it to power up as usual despite making many adjustments to what I thought was the problem

Then i whacked it. Yup I literally Hit my PS4. Flat palm on the top nice and firm and boom it turns on

I have read somewhere that the power supplies have a relay (it clicks when you turn it on) that can get stuck. I think that is the only reasonable explanation for my problem but again I have no way to be sure. The most frustrating thing is not knowing the true cause of this issue.... At least I got to play Destiny last night

Got my system yesterday at around the same time I sent it (2:00 p.m.). It got here in exactly 5 days which is great IMO. This is my first experience sending anything to the manufacturer for repair and I can say that I'm very pleased with how little time it took. All they did was exchanged it with a refurbished one, but still... Now, I got the system up and running and left it on all day yesterday. Put a disc on and left it there over night with the system on stand-by and it's still there. I'm at work now, but so far so good.

Also, I think I got a more silent PS4 this time around, which is awesome. I put a DVD yesterday for my daughter and the disc drive didn't sound nearly as loud as it was on my defective PS4. Hope it stays that way. Anyway, I'll give one final update when the system gets enough playtime and really gets put to test.

All in all, I'm pretty satisfied with Sony's support and with how fast the process went through.

Glad it all got sorted out for you bud :) Now get back to gaming soldier!

I still haven't got mine back and it's soon been 4 weeks. Not that I'm bothering at the moment because I'm on vacation. Thinking about demanding a new unit when I get back home if they still haven't fixed it by the time I get home.

Wonder what's caused the sudden epidemic of ejecting discs, must be pretty serious if they put up a video on the Playstation YT.

Damn, that sucks. What happened to it that it has taken so long to repair? Why didn't they send you a refurbished instead?

Sony were really good with my 5 PS3 returns. Each time they came to my door, collected the old one and handed over a new one, though I understand they do this differently in the States.

They never even asked for a receipt once, only the date I bought it without proof.
5 PS3 returns? Jesus.

What was the issue exactly?

No clue. But I've been away for a week (and I knew I was going away) so I haven't pressured them. Will though when I get back home next week. Most likely I'll just get a brand new one.

So I removed the center rubber thing that was supposedly causing eject issues and now the eject button doesn't work. Not a problem because you can eject discs via UI but is this normal?

Weird. Well, hope you get a new one.

That's definitely one I haven't heard of.

I've been having odd issues with my PS4. The controller won't stay synced and the camera will sometimes turn on when watching a movie and causes me PS4 to heat up.

I was considering sending it in before November, but I may just buy the extended warranty so if anything worse happens I can still send it in.

So just had a real weird thing happen. I've been playing NHL 15 on this thing all day. The whole time I've been playing HUT. I switch out and then go into quick play because I wanted to check something out. Get to the loading screen and then it hits me with an "Dis Cannot be Read" error. Then then tells me the disc is dirty and it ejects it. Now, since I got this on Tuesday, the only places the disc has been are the case and the system. I close out of the game and go back in. Do the same thing, get the same error. Everything is very slow. One more time, but go to play HUT. Gets me into the game but it's stuttering the whole time. Throw another disc in there (Destiny) and it works fine.

Anything like this ever happen to anyone else? I'm gonna try to clean the disc tomorrow, and I just unplugged the system to give it some rest since it's been literally running all day, but I'm nervous now.

Edit: Working now after I wiped it. Just weird because it happened after I'd been playing it for a few hours and it's never been anywhere but the case and the system. Hopefully it doesn't happen again.

So I got back and on the way from the airport I get a mail I can come pick it up. So I do. They didn't even bother it seems. Just got a brand new one. I'm happy with that.

Now the downloading begins. Next generation digital only, baby!

Just happened to me for the third time with the auto-ejecting issue, the fixes posted online would only work for a week or two. TBH I'm a little disappointed as I've only used the thing for 50 hours at the most as the Wii-U has been getting more use recently and I'm lucky if I can get between four to eight hours in of gaming a week as it is. They better not give me any hassle when I ring tomorrow.

It may give me a good excuse to think about selling on Destiny though, as it really hasn't sucked me in, I was about to start Wolfenstein last night but that's when the ejecting thing started happening again :(

Mine has the same issue. It's very disappointing as I've never had a console break on me (fat PS2 still runs after 13 years).

I haven't sent it away yet.

I called Sony last week, guy said 'the eject problem? No worries, I'll send you an email with the solution'

Email said 'do a system restore'

No shit Sherlock! That's what I need to do every damn time it starts ejecting....'

ah come on dudes, I wish I saw this thread sooner, going to try to stay digital only since Destiny is the only disc I own right now

sounds frustrating going to update my HDD later in the week

I think I found a real solution for this problem. Very easy and invisible. Here's what to do:

- unplug your ps4 for about a minute
- there is a little rubber foot directly under the eject button. Take a piece of thin cardboard and cut it in a size that it completely isolates the rubber foot from the underground and put it under the foot
- plug your ps4 back in and you should be good to go

I've tried all the other solutions before and they only fixed it for a day or sometimes 1-2 weeks. I haven't had any problems since I put the cardboard under it about 4-5 weeks ago.

My theory is that the rubber foot is statically charged (or however you call that in English) and the charge is enough to trigger the eject button, which works like a touch screen. That's why the problem disappears when you unplug it for a while but comes back after some time.

Since you guys are having the same problem right now it'd be interesting if you could try it out and see if it works for you too.

I've had to send in two systems in my entire life to get fixed, Gamecube and PS4. My PS3 was just out of warranty. My launch Wii broke in 2011. Shit happens sometimes.

Mine kept ejecting like crazy. I managed to get it to stop by turning it off and tapping the eject button. I thought about sending it in, but don't want the to go through the effort/wait. I found that ejecting in the OS with the controller has never cause the issue again.

I have mine standing vertically though with the official vertical base, so I don't see how this could help me. Still thanks for the heads up.

I have also seen one or two other possible fixes that involve getting the screw driver out, but when I pay X amount of money for a system I don't expect to be repairing it myself (unless it's a self built PC of course).

30 minutes on hold with the UK support phone number, I guess I'll wait and see how long I have to wait.

Mine is distractingly loud when there's a disk inside. It's in the vertical position also. It makes the whole table vibrate and its just unpleasant noise pollution until it stops spinning. Not had the eject problem personally.

The USB ports on my PS4 stopped working about 2 months ago for no reason. I googled it and seems to be a common hardware error. So i called PS4 support to arrange a return. The first time i was on hold for 30 minutes waiting for a representative. Eventually i got to talk to someone, who took my details, and said theyd send me a returns label etc.
They emailed me all the details and of course, the moron on the phone had taken down my PS4 serial number wrong. I had to call them back and was again, on hold for 30 minutes waiting for a rep. I told them they got my serial no wrong so gave it to them again, they said theyd update my ticket and id get an email.
I never got an updated ticket or email about it, and tried to call them back. After 40 minutes on hold this time, i just said 'fuck it' and havent tried since.

Do you use the vertical stand? Apparently if you don't, you are blocking vents.

Sending mine in today as it appears the bluetooth adapter is dead/dying. Controller(s) dropping out less than 6 feet from console if its in my relatively open entertainment center.

I had the same issue, after calling Sony and tightening the screw, it hasn't happened since. Hopefully it stays that way, otherwise i'll just have to send it in as well.

Quoting myself.

After some time it started happening again, only a couple times and it's really not a big deal, but i'll have to send it in as well. This is a busy season for games though so I'm going to wait until after the holidays. My warranty is good until sometime in March anyway.

Oh wow, didn't realise there was extra airflow on that position of the console. Thought it was all at the back. I may have to consider horizontal position / buying a vertical stand then. Thanks very much.

Well 45 minutes on hold, could have been worse.

A little disappointed that they don't send coffins out in the UK, so I'll have to pack it myself. I think I still have the box. Could take between 7 and 21 working days to fix, which TBH is a bit rubbish, especially as I wanted a couple of days playing Diablo and Wolfenstein, what with being off sick with a cold and all that.

For those who are going through this issue right now, know that I tried every single "fix" that didn't void warranty and they only worked temporary. It got to the point where none of the fixes were working for at least a while anymore just before I decided to send it for repair.

Anyway, for those who are on the fence, just know that I got a refurbished system in exactly 5 days and it's working great. Fast, hassle free process.

Go for it.

Ahh, that's definitely a bummer and would make the process not as convenient. Getting a box completely prepared to place the PS4 was really a big plus for an unfortunate event like this.

No sweat! The console does look better standing vertically but yes, I'm pretty sure without the stand it is a lot louder.

I'm going to speak to Sony tomorrow. My PS4's network adaptor is acting weird. Sometime it recognizes the Ethernet cable and sometimes it doesn't . When it does I get slower than modem speeds. I've gone through new cables (PC cable works fine - switch it to the PS4 and it dies) and flashed my router. There's a few people on the interwebs with the same problem and reading their stories it's almost exactly the same as mine. It doesn't look like a system restore will fix it. Wifi works thank god, but if I broadcast and play online it almost always lags in game.

I recently sent my PS Vita (OLED) in for service after the screen's hues darkened and turned bluish. Within about 3 weeks it was sent back to me in perfect working order.

The only issue I had was that when I first submitted my request for service, I received an email stating I should hear back within 48 hours with information on how to proceed with service. I never received that email. A week later, I used Sony's online chat to address that, and a box was sent and everything taken care of.

Sony's service site is a bit of a mess right now, with some broken links and such, and a "service status" page that doesn't work, but aside from the above, the experience was very good, and my Vita works perfectly again.

I had a similar issue, but as it turned out, it was my fault. I recently wired up my house with CAT-6 cable, and the cable I'd run to my "man cave"/gaming room was wired poorly. The Ethernet keystone that I'd wired had one wire that was slightly cut and therefore had a short in the connection. Rewiring the keystone fixed it.

On that note, I love having gigabit Ethernet throughout the house, and my consoles on a solid, reliable Ethernet connection.

Happened AGAIN last night, I'm so tired of this and I don't feel like spending another 35 minutes waiting for someone to speak to me at the Sony helpline.

The store I bought the PS4 from also has 1 year warranty on Sony hardware, it says so in their terms at least. I think I'm going to call them first, already did so a few months ago but the guy told me then it was best to just call Sony.

Well, that wasn't the best option it turned out afterwards.... With that stupid solution by email, bah.

I had to take the rubber part out under the eject button. My PS4 didn't even accept discs in as it was ejecting every 5 seconds. It didn't beep, but I could here the disc drive making the eject sound. Hopefully it is now fixed.

isnt the eject-button a proximity sensor?... maybe its trigged by something nearby the console then?. like a magnet field etc.

My PS4 auto-ejected The Last of Us earlier this month. I unplugged it, plugged it in again after 20mins, and it hasn't done it again since. I'm hoping it never happens again as I really don't want to send it in for a fix. But now I'm worried............
Sony's advice video was basically "turn it off and on again" so maybe you fixed it.

Sony's advice video was basically "turn it off and on again" so maybe you fixed it.

Yep, that's exactly what the email from Sony said.

I’m now in discussion with the store I bought everything from, they give a year warranty according to their own terms but tell me that 2 weeks after purchase the warranty moves to Sony due to an agreement they have with Sony.

They say it takes longer to do it through the store than to do it yourself but I don’t buy that. The store has a warehouse full with consoles and controllers, why should I wait for Sony when the store can just give me replacements, then I can still game and they just have to wait for 1 PS4 and 2 controllers to be added to their stock.

They don’t miss it, I do, especially now with great games being released almost every week….
