Well, that's it: I Give up (Skyward Sword Spoilers)

SS is a mediocre game and not just a bad Zelda.
It almost soiled me on the series but then I played ALBW and it single handedly restored my love

Navi was ok. The owl was ok. Fi had to explain the most obvious thibgs that did not need an explanation. "Master, there's a 95% chance that you are going to clog the toiler if you take a shit after eating at Taco Bell".

And the low hearts sound is still there, btw. I went from " Shut the feck up, Fi" to "just ignore it". They should have added an option to disable the notification completely.

I really liked how at the same time the game can be so subtle with hints. In the second volcano dungeon, you deal with burning rocks. Then you see sand, next to it, use the reverse vacuum cleaner to remove it... And suddenly realise that you can try using it on the rock instead of water.

The game should have been a "Dungeon rush". All dungeons were great, some of the most memorable bosses... But the time between dungeons is miserable. I still can see that music sheet whenever I close my eyes. No, just no. I'm not fucking picking that. I could have used a cheat or something to enable all items, but it did not matter. I was literally waiting for a reason strong enough to quit.

This is the first time I have given up on a mainline Zelda game. I have never felt disappointed with this saga, but after 32 hours I feel defeated and destroyed.
...

I am supposing that the people that keep asking for this game to be re-released without motion controls have never played it more than a few hours. The motion controls are the only thing that is ok with this game. Everything else is wrong at every level. Just tell me that A Link Between Worlds will be better than this, please. Hell, Final Fantasy XIII does not seem that awful after this, although it's the time blurring my memories.
AppleSeason, your impressions of the game are fairly accurate. On one hand is kind of a shame you didn't manage to complete it since you seem to be quite close, but on the other is a relief
that yet another person manage to experiment for themselves what are the real shortcomigs of the game. i said this because there's quite an outspoken group that want to blame the motion controls as the main problem, when in reality pacing and unnecessary padding are what drag down this game.

None the less, it was an experiment worth to try. A Zelda game that tries to extend the "dungeon experience outside of the dungeons". Yet it failed but maybe due to the bloat?

In the end i see Twilight and Skyward as experiments. i think Twilight got closer to succeding with it's attempt of making a linear Zelda but with more defnied adventure aspects and set pieces.

The only thing that made me complete the game twice were the controls, not just because the motion sword controls but how downright brilliant and intuitive the whole layout is thanks to the Wii Remote.

I feel like I'm the only one who didn't find the tadtones section awful or annoying. Actually, I beat it on my second try.

In any case, Skyward Sword is a very uneven game - some spectacular highs, but very damning lows.

Tadtones was frustrating (though I'd probably enjoy it more now that I know what to do) but the ways in which the same zones are repurposed is actually rather brilliant and was part of the game's initial design concept. A lot of people act as though the game was rushed out and the Silent Realm/Tadtones sections were invented in order to compensate, but that's simply not true. What WAS thrown in at the last minute was the sky overworld...

Either way, SS will get more love when the new Zelda releases and everyone decides that it's the new worst game in the series. Just have to wait on that.

In my opinion the second half of Skyward Sword (dungeons 4-7) is exponentially better than the first half, so it'd be a shame for anyone to quit at that point.

But I guess if you deleted your save, you really aren't going back. Too bad.

Skyward Sword is one of my favorite Zelda games.

It has plenty of flaws but it tries a lot of new ideas. I really appreciate it for that. Some of them work, some of them don't, but the game felt extremely fresh to me and I enjoyed most of the experience immensely.

A Link Between Worlds is actually one of my least favorite Zelda games. It's polished to near-perfection but it's one of the safest, blandest entries in the entire franchise (in my opinion, of course). I played through it once and will never touch it again. If I want a similar experience, I'll gladly revisit A Link to the Past.

I think I left off somewhere in sand area. That game is a hot mess.

The Legend of Zelda series redeemed itself with ALBW though. I still have hope.
