Sadly, all banks do this now. Even credit unions.
Yes, my Credit Union requires that I keep five dollars in my savings account at all times. What savages.

What are the benefits of a credit union over one of these banks?
I bank with Wells Fargo so I'm very curious.
No, not all banks. Ally, Schwab, Simple, Capital One 360…Sadly, all banks do this now. Even credit unions.
Either have direct deposit with a minimum amount or have a minimum balance in your account every month or they will start stealing money from you.

Since some people want a invite to Simple, they not long ago set up a link for people so you can invite them on facebook or twitter or what not. I don't earn anything for this, so don't think I'm trying to farm $50 bucks from each of you lol.

Click and welcome aboard!
Me and the GF share the account, so that's why it's from Christina lol.
This Simple bank seems more than adequate for the way I use my bank. With my current bank closing down it's only local branch, the effect would be similar, except with theoretically a useful mobile app.
Any chance I could get an invite as well?
Oh wow this looks exactly what I was looking for. I don't even use cash anymore so why would I worry about cash deposit?
Can anyone here who has an account send me an invite?
This bank sounds awesome. Do you have any idea when they are going to open outside of invites? I am looking for an online bank and this one sounds good.
Anybody who wants an invite to Simple, click the link below. I believe I have unlimited invites.I freaking HATE WF with a passion. I had a student account and they fucked me over dozens of times.
Went to BoA, they are treating me ok...for now.
I would really love a Simple invite though if anyone can spare one!
PS: They also are able to cash deposits as well but you have to use a money order from like a grocery store or something and then submit it through the photo check deposit.
Edit: Darn, DarkFlow beat me to it.

If you somehow don't get invited, You can request an invite through their website and you should get an invite within a week.

I'm doing both. Credit Union for Savings, Simple for Checking
I've had no bad experiences with WF.
Just the fact that they remind me every single time that I don't have a savings with them. I avoid going in at all costs.
About a year ago someone was using "my" card in another state and WF called me the day after to verify it was me. Of course it wasn't so they canceled the card and send me a new one. Pretty cool that they caught it before me.

Oh my god I hate when they take forever to take a charge out of the account. It drives me insane. Something similar happened to me at Citi but that's because I thought I had a student account and didn't need $1500. A month or 2 later (After I make a withdrawal from checking) I see a service charge of 55 dollars and I'm like wtf. I went in the next day and one of the people with the desk take the charge away and give me a student account.Wanted to bump this thread. Thought it would stay dead but apparently not.
I closed my account with Wells Fargo on January 7th.
I get a call today from a COLLECTIONS AGENCY telling me that I owed 79.79 in fees to them. I was pretty confused so I went to the same WF office and asked what the charges were.
Apparently I got charged because I bought some coffee 4 days before I closed my account and it didn't go through until after I took the money out.
So yeah, thanks a lot Wells Fargo. Not only did that coffee blow up to 79 dollars but I now have a black mark on my finance history forever.

Not really how it works.
Though this is why you don't close an account if you've used it at all recently.
Really? That's what the bank teller told me
It is a good number of years but black marks from collection agencies fall off your credit score after about 7 years or so (might be 9, don't remember the exact time frame).
