Well's Fargo is a POS

I could be totally wrong here but I believe Wells Fargo was the only big bank that didn't need a bailout during the last recession. They basically got forced into it.

I've never had a problem with them but your situation is terrible and justified in getting upset.

What are the benefits of a credit union over one of these banks?

I bank with Wells Fargo so I'm very curious.

Certain credit unions (if not all) have free incoming/outgoing wire fees (domestic). Also most don't require minimums to open account nor do they charge monthly. Not sure about the monthly charge tho I haven't had an account in a CU for some time. But the others I am sure of.

I have two accounts. A local credit union and Wells Fargo.
No problems with Wells Fargo in the last 3 years.
The credit union requires a $25 minimum checking account balance.
Wells Fargo has ATM's everywhere I've been. The credit union has about 3 ATM's.
I split my auto deposits between the two just in case.

Simple is cool, but they don't reimburse all ATM fees, so I switched to Ally. They're real friendly and reimburse all ATM fees at the end of each statement period. Both my savings and checking are with them now.

Sadly, all banks do this now. Even credit unions.
Either have direct deposit with a minimum amount or have a minimum balance in your account every month or they will start stealing money from you.
No, not all banks. Ally, Schwab, Simple, Capital One 360…

Yes, my Credit Union requires that I keep five dollars in my savings account at all times. What savages.

I checked around a few months back & there seems to be a standard across all banks.
Either have something like $1,000 balance or deposit $800 or more in direct deposits or else face a monthly fee.

Out of 4 Credit Unions I called, only one of them didn't have that & they might have gotten on board by now.

I've been with WF for 8 years and have had no problems with them. Even when my cc info was stolen, they were quick to send me a new card and replenish my account. Sorry to hear about your situation op.

Since some people want a invite to Simple, they not long ago set up a link for people so you can invite them on facebook or twitter or what not. I don't earn anything for this, so don't think I'm trying to farm $50 bucks from each of you lol.

Click and welcome aboard!

Me and the GF share the account, so that's why it's from Christina lol.

Thanks! I signed myself and my girlfriend up for it.

This Simple bank seems more than adequate for the way I use my bank. With my current bank closing down it's only local branch, the effect would be similar, except with theoretically a useful mobile app.

Any chance I could get an invite as well?

Oh wow this looks exactly what I was looking for. I don't even use cash anymore so why would I worry about cash deposit?

Can anyone here who has an account send me an invite?

This bank sounds awesome. Do you have any idea when they are going to open outside of invites? I am looking for an online bank and this one sounds good.

I freaking HATE WF with a passion. I had a student account and they fucked me over dozens of times.

Went to BoA, they are treating me ok...for now.

I would really love a Simple invite though if anyone can spare one!

If you somehow don't get invited, You can request an invite through their website and you should get an invite within a week.

PS: They also are able to cash deposits as well but you have to use a money order from like a grocery store or something and then submit it through the photo check deposit.
Edit: Darn, DarkFlow beat me to it.

Wow a thread about my employer and a negative one at that! Sorry to here about your experience OP it sucks that you were negatively impacted by the bank and I wish you never had to go through any of it but new account fraud is a real thing and that's pretty much exactly how it's performed so I understand why they held onto your cash for a bit. Just as a General note to the people complaining about fees. It's understandable that you wouldn't want fees on your accounts and there are usually very easy ways to get around them but saying a bank is stealing or taking your money is pretty absurd. I mean they are still providing you a service so should they not be paid for it?

Ah, Wells Fargo. The company that almost managed to embezzle over $20k from my family's company. Twice. Fun times.

Yeah, fuck those guys.

Well Fargo is garbage. Currently with US Bank and chase and they have been decent so far.
Although US Bank changed their accounts so now the one I have is crappier than their previous ones.

Simple sounds pretty great. But this cash deposit sounds like a hassle. I wish they had a WP app though would use it to save money.

The trick is to go to a small(er) more local bank. That way you can get to know the people who work there including the managers, who are a lot less likely to be the 10,000th person down from the actual person who can make a decision for you.

Dude, I feel your pain. Chase still has my money hostage in America while I'm in Australia. I've gone through 12 people, several angles (phone, email, twitter, etc.) and it's been nearly a month and they still refuse to help. My last effort resulted in aÂ… letter. That they sent to my US address. Thanks, assholes.

Thanks to both of you. They already approved my application and I should have my card in a week or so.

For a second I read the thread title as "Well, Fargo (as in the film) is a piece of shit." and I got ready to bust some skulls.

I've had no bad experiences with WF.

Just the fact that they remind me every single time that I don't have a savings with them. I avoid going in at all costs.

About a year ago someone was using "my" card in another state and WF called me the day after to verify it was me. Of course it wasn't so they canceled the card and send me a new one. Pretty cool that they caught it before me.

I was with them when they were Wachovia, First Union and now I'm with them as Wells Fargo. I haven't had any issues with them in the decades I've had them outside of the "tie breaker" that goes into place when you have a deposit on the books and some transaction comes through and gives you a negative balance although it came after the deposit. Generally I just get on the phone with them and they clear it up so I have no beef with them.

My businesses account is with Chase and I have far more issues with them - especially some of their insane rules on cash deposits. Loved the business banking account a lot more with Washington Mutual before they were bought out by Chase.

I've pretty much had the same experience when someone got my card info last year. They actually contacted me that day when someone tried to buy $600 worth of shit from Forever 21.

Anytime they ask me about opening a savings account I always tell them no thanks, I have a credit union account.

Worked for me, thanks!

Haven't had any issues with them. I went with them for my mortgage due to them having the loan type the seller wanted when we bought and have been on good terms with them ever since. I have heard the horror stories from people I know that couldn't keep enough funds in their account and WF would charge them so deep in the red, they would lose entire pay checks.

I have Chase as well and they always piss me off. I've gone through 4 debit cards last year from them thinking I had suspicious activities charged to my account. Every time I argue with them I made the purchases, but they still decide to give me a new card and put a deadline on my old card.

Wanted to bump this thread. Thought it would stay dead but apparently not.

I closed my account with Wells Fargo on January 7th.

I get a call today from a COLLECTIONS AGENCY telling me that I owed 79.79 in fees to them. I was pretty confused so I went to the same WF office and asked what the charges were.

Apparently I got charged because I bought some coffee 4 days before I closed my account and it didn't go through until after I took the money out.

So yeah, thanks a lot Wells Fargo. Not only did that coffee blow up to 79 dollars but I now have a black mark on my finance history forever.

Oh my god I hate when they take forever to take a charge out of the account. It drives me insane. Something similar happened to me at Citi but that's because I thought I had a student account and didn't need $1500. A month or 2 later (After I make a withdrawal from checking) I see a service charge of 55 dollars and I'm like wtf. I went in the next day and one of the people with the desk take the charge away and give me a student account.

Well, if it makes you feel any better, that mark isn't actually on your history forever but that is still shit. Maybe someone here knows of something you could do.

Not really how it works.

Though this is why you don't close an account if you've used it at all recently.

It is a good number of years but black marks from collection agencies fall off your credit score after about 7 years or so (might be 9, don't remember the exact time frame).

And often you can dispute them to have them removed sooner. I've done so successfully many times with BS claims.

I opened an account with WF at the beginning of my College life, never again.

I'm with Bank of America now, I like it better, I might try out Simple.

I read this as 'well fargo is a POS', and was going to say that Coen films are hit and miss. Really don't like A Serious Man and Big Lebowski, but love Old Country for Old Men.

Read thread title as: Well, Fargo is a piece of shit...and I was like oh hell no, it's one of the Coen's best bitch!

Then I read the op and bump post...sucks man, at least you're out of there.

Edit: Lol Titus!
