To be fair, weight training can have its issues too.

Ask one of the guys working there and they will probably give you a quick tour of all the machines for a small amount.

Otherwise you will end up like this

Alright, lmfao at the second pic.

The last gif has a machine that is pretty intuitive, there is a seat right there.

Those machines are really hard to figure out how they work.

for example

Again, there's a fucking seat.

I once saw a girl come up to this machine, get on all fours on the floor, put her head under the lift apparatus and starting pushing it up with hear head, sort of like looking up and down.

I've seen old people using those machines like this before. I think they know the proper way, but improvise it like that for some weird reasons. May be bad advice from someone.

What I really don't understand is that stupid half stability ball. People do all kind of weird pointless shit with it with the weights.

This have always been my favorite workout fail, I don't know if there's a gif of it somewhere.

Good god, he couldn't think to grab the trash can? :\

Anyway, I know we're all being silly in this thread, but may I say something a little more serious?

As someone who longs to get fit, and currently doing my first run through of P90X, I can say that if I don't have someone there telling me what to do, how to do it, how many times, etc., I'm completely lost. I almost feel like I need to take a college-level course before I can put together a routine.

I know there are resources out there, and I've even put together a routine with the help of people from the Fitness thread, but I have never actually done it. Why? Because I'm so effing terrified of the gym. I know, suck it up, blah blah blah, but even if I weren't afraid, I'd go in there with my routine and have NO idea if I were doing it right. I could watch all the YouTube videos in the world and still do it wrong at the gym.

I also know that yeah, get a workout buddy, blah blah, but....I have no friends that go to the gym save for one guy who doesn't know what he's doing the way GAF does. Plus, I moved to a new area and have no friends here, yet alone friends that care about their health.

So I truly hate hearing that "if you don't have a workout friend, you're going to fail, etc." because....I truly don't have anyone except Tony Horton and GAF right now, and I can't even tell anyone I'm doing this because I don't want to sound like a douche bag to them.

So anyway....once P90X is over and I'm "baseline fit" (if I even get fit....I still feel clueless a lot of the time even though Tony is right there telling me what to do), I'm not going to have any idea what I should do. I'm going to probably just do P90X all over again because it's all I know. Then maybe P90X2. Then maybe Crossfit, but lots of people on GAF seem to hate Crossfit, but it has that guided aspect I crave and cannot do without.

I should have minored in personal fitness.

Anyway, that's my rant. Just wanted to say that.

Some books that I found to be extremely helpful in exercise programming.

Here is your 'college course'. These books will help you develop an understanding for strength training, how to do key lifts, why do use barbells over machines, and other questions. As a novice, there will be a couple of core lifts you should focus on, to maximize your strength gains. As you know FitGAF can help

I understand your frustration. There's an abundance of info out there, and everyone is trying to tell you how to do something. Too many choice leads to fear of choosing the wrong one. I think that reading these books will give you the confidence to believe you know what you're doing.

Also, You don't need a buddy to work out with. Or music for that matter. An appreciation of what you're doing, respect for the complex manoeuvres you'll be doing (to avoid being a gif we all laugh at), and determination will make your gym sessions manageable. I work out alone, no music, at 6:00 AM Monday Wednesday Friday. You'll get used to it ahah.

Hey, thanks man. Bookmarked for when I finish P90X and don't know what to do next :p .

I went to the gym today and there was this really old guy working out in a suit. It was hilarious. I was pretty upset I didn't have access to a phone.

I really hate going to the gym when it's crowded. I actually hate the gym in general. I wish that premium equipment was less premium in price.

My school gym is awesome. They have a twitter account and they tweet every 30 minutes, saying how many people are in the weights/cardio areas. Makes it super easy to go when it's less busy.

I'd read starting strength at least immediately. Don't wait.

Starting Strength is the truth. I got it several months ago. It really has changed the way I do things at the gym. I've still got a ways to go before I have to rethink things, but I've made tremendous gains since starting with it.

The other day I used the "ab-coaster" for the first time.

That was embarrassing.

At least by the third set I figured out what I was actually supposed to do.

Ask for the squat rack and do inner and outer standing barbell curls. 5 sets inner, 5 sets outter. 1 minute 30 seconds rest between each set. If you get angry looks, just disregard it, you loading them guns.
