...Since this was already indeed quitely posted in another thread, I figure this game needs some proper exposure and not just bumping ol' threads...

Dead Space Preview HD

This game seems absolutely amazing, I wanna try it out so bad.

The interface looks so natural, even though its different from what we're used to.

Probably their most positive preview ever. It's like the guy wanted to just say 'This game is aaweesome, but I can't say it out loud because we need hits on our review'.

I might be being super paranoid on this, but I stopped watching that video after it seemed as if they were going to reveal how the 'Necromorphs' come about (I know that they're ex-crew, but not specifically how they become what they become). Just a warning, I've been keeping myself fairly in the dark on this one and didn't want to know.

Go watch the comic book trailer things on XBL/PSN. It's not really a spoiler, more like a really, REALLY long opening movie.

It looks like it will be pretty fun, and this is coming from someone who didnt give a damn about the game in the beginning. Only gripe id have is that it looks like its TOO action based and will get repetitive. Just linear, room to room shooting. I LOVE the lack of an onscreen interface....that shit is great.

I've seen those, so I know all about the marker and that it has an effect on people, but I didn't think they covered the complete transition? Perhaps there's one I haven't seen.

In fact I commented elsewhere that I'd really love a game to be made covering the time frame from those comics. Discovering the marker and investigating the behavioural impact it has on your colleagues and the colony in general - maybe even taking the role of Abrahams in those comics.

(As you can see, I'm not on total blackout! :lol)

Looks great. RE5 might be a 20hour game like RE4 (and have co-op) but scene by scene Dead Space just looks way ahead.

The producer said in one interview that they're aiming for roughly 20 hours. It was from E3, so finding it might be tough.

I swear, this game has vaulted over everything else being released this fall to be my most anticipated game. The excellent animated comics, the glowing previews, and the killer video clips being released have all hyped me up to no end.

The HUD-less play is nice, but what most impresses me is the sound. Just phenomenal, I can't wait to crank it up.

This

Things like the map navagation, the holo-movies, and your health status are damn cool.

really the "re4 in _________" formula can be applied to just about any setting and it comes out gangbusters.

examples:

- re4 in the jungle
- re4 in the frozen tundra
- re4 in middle school
- re4 on a plane

the last one would be a really sweet passenger 57 game. get wesley snipes involved. is he busy?

It's not like he's in jail or anything.

Anyway, this game looks amazing. Spore DRM aside, EA has been absolutely marvelous.

As you should be. This makes RE5 look generic and plain. Wow!
What? How does RE5 look "generic"? I can't think of many other games that feature a setting quite like what RE5 is aiming for. It's quite lovely and pretty unique. The types of environments being presented in Dead Space are far more common themes for video games.

Of course, I'm ultra excited about Dead Space (more than RE5 even), but both games look absolutely awesome.

No doubt RE5 looks cool. I was only trying to convey how much better and unique Dead Space is looking to me.

definitely, but Dead Space gives me the chills. the game will be the Drake of 2008, a new IP which will kick ass.

If Dead Space is better than RE5 I will go find a dead crow and tape myself eating it and post it on GAF.

Dead Space looks really cool though. Can't wait.

looks pretty good, but if I've learned something this gen is to not be hyped much about those games..
the game i played early last month was definitely not over hyped. this puppy is still under hyped.

i'm not saying everyone in this thread is under excited, probably not, but your average gamer has no idea why dead space is going to be awesome. no idea that it's anything other than a generic space shooter. at best they might go 'it looks like RE4 in space!'.

it isn't that. it's a fresh take on the genre. best game in the genre? dunno. that's expecting a bit much, but it's certainly fresh.

It looks great, a spiritual successor to Bioshock really since it seems to borrow a lot of ideas.
My biggest worry is longevity but story is it's around 20 hours which is fine by me.

it isn't an anything to Bioshock.

Bioshock is awesome in totally different ways.

i still don't remotely understand how people lump this in with bioshock. the only vague simularity i can see is that you can upgrade weapons in both.

Have you watched Ep. 4? Because that tells you exactly how the people are transformed

plagiarize consistently rules. preach it, brother.
i honestly want him to explain the similarities he sees. ever since the first Game Informer cover, people have been comparing it to Bioshock, favorably or unfavorably and i've never got it.

One queestion. The weapons. Is it like one gun that just changes forms to shoot different bullets or totally different weapons alltogether? All the weapons look like they are just transformations of the same thing.

me neither. i think people just see a dude with metal somewhere in the vicinity of his face and want to call "copycats," and that's just not the case at all. the comparisons to re4 are completely valid, mind you, but it's taking those mechanics and doing some really new, cool stuff with it.

instead of focusing on anything it might be borrowing, what about the stuff it's doing that's so totally new? as people have mentioned already, the great user interface, and the zero grav rooms? chopping off body parts with a laser isn't completely new, per se, but it's certainly one of the first games so far as i know to push that to the forefront.

Man I am so glad I preordered this. I've been waiting for a good survival horror game for so damn long. The fact that we're getting one in space that looks like Event Horizon meets The Thing is just amazing. I'm going to turn the lights off, crank the stereo, sit back and relax on the couch in front of my huge ass HDTV and just be freaked out for the weekend following its release.

i saw five distinct weapons when i played. your first weapon is the plasma cutter, the alt fire switches it from horizontal cutting to vertical cutting. i also saw the assualt rifle which was more of a standard gun, but the alt fire does this thing where isaac slams it down in the middle of a room and the barrel spins around shooting in all directions. also saw the line cutter (which i forget the alt fire of), a flame thrower, and some weapon where you could hold the alt fire to charge it up.

they all looked different enough... though the line cutter sort of resembles a big plasma cutter (and in many ways it works like one too).

Dead Space looks really good.

See people, you can walk and shoot at the same time and still make a good horror game. ;)
