What 1 developer have left the biggest impression on you this gen?

For me....

Snowblind Studios - small dev; biggest impression.
how shocking. Andrew2/Impreza is impressed by something snowblind did. i'm in total shock here.

I'd say Bungie because Halo 1 is the most ridiculously ridiculous game ever. It's the first game that I got so sucked up in that I actually read fucking books about the universe :lol

Team Ninja is up there as well. Ninja Gaiden puts so many pussy ass "action" games to shame.

Also, Team Ico to a lesser extent. I personally never really talk about them but Ico is my favorite PS2 game this generation, edging out Virtua Fighter 4. I haven't played SotC yet, though.

Bungie
Nintendo (Warioware team, Zelda 4 Sword team, Advance War Team)
Namco (Katamari team)
Team Ico
Capcom (Resident Evil 4 team, Viewtiful Joe Team)
Q Entertainment (Lumines)
Square Enix (Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles Team)
EA (SSX Team)

Man... so many

Probably BioWare for KOTOR. The story, gameplay, writing is easily the best i've had the pleasure of experiencing. The branching paths, the consistency with SW universe, deep side characters with their own individual personailty...

No wonder why its my #1 fav game of all time.

2nd would have to be Big Blue Box with Fable

The possibilities these guys have with Fable 2 is immense, they got so many things right with the original and i cant wait to see what they do with the power of X360.

Special game indeed

4 Swords is Capcom, and Wario WAre and AW are both by Intelligent Systems. :)

Konami left the best impression on me (namely, Kojima's team and the Silent Hill crew)

Bungie also made quite an impression, as Halo 1 and 2 pretty much saved the FPS genre for me.

Team ICO - ICO was one of the most memorable experiences I've had this gen...and I'm hoping that SOTC will as well when it is released.

Retro - A complete suprise. I never expected much from them, but Prime and Prime 2 are godly games that seem to do everything I could have possibly wanted.

There are others that certainly impressed me, but they didn't do so all the time. For example, I'd say Capcom based on RE4...but there were so many times prior to RE4 this gen that they disappointed me.

While I'm a huge Nintendo fan, I'd have to say that my biggest surprise was Capcom. They've never really gone anywhere, but I'd say this is my favorite Capcom generation since the NES with Viewtiful Joe, Resident Evil 4, and Killer 7. Yeah I'm a Nintendo fanboy, but I also don't really care for Street Fighter or Devil May Cry, so I left those out.

i also have a hunch that these guys will end up doing the most ground breaking stuff on Revolution. it might be a tiny hunch, but it's a hunch. but yeah, im very excited to see what everyone brings to the table as always.

I can't name just one... just can't...

Team Silent- all the SH games this gen have just blown me away above and beyond the original on the PS. SH5 is currently my most anticipated next gen game that hasn't been shown yet.

Ico/SotC Team- these two games have easily been my favorite 'original' games this gen. Put me into the "these games represent video games as art" bandwagon. :)

Kojima Productions- I never enjoyed Metal Gear on the NES and thought MGS1 was one of the most overrated games of the PS1's line-up. I was one of the 6 people that really liked MGS2... and MGS3 was just phenomenal. Kojima made me a MGS fan this gen.

Favorite dev. last gen (i.e. 32/64 bit era) that didn't shine quite as bright:

Square's Division 1 (Kitase Division)- Final Fantasy X is definitely one of my favorite games this gen, but even though I enjoyed FFX-2, I thought it was a waste of time for the team that was involved in masterpieces such as FFVII, FFVIII, FFX (and to a lesser extent, FFVI). To Div.1's credit, they did create a brand new franchise with Kingdom Hearts, but it was regretful not to have two main numbered FF games designed by them this gen.
That said, I have high hopes for next gen's FFXIII.

Jet Grind Radio you mean? The second one is awesome too, as is Panzer Dragoon Orta. Some folks like GunValkyrie, thoiugh I'm not one of them.

And of course Phantom Dust, which I believe has developers from that company. Stellar record.

I'd imagine he means Jet Set Radio as it's unsullied by the music of Rob Zombie.

IS for AW series and Capcom Production Studio 4 for RE4. Honorable mention goes to Factor 5 for Rogue Leader.

Nintendo for Pikmin and Metroid Prime
Amusement Vision for Monkey Ball and F-Zero
Mario, Zelda, Sonic were awesome too, but as I knew how good they were going to be, it isn't really "impressive"

Nautilius for their Shadow Hearts series. Shadow Hearts 1 was a huge surprise, Shadow Hearts 2 is still my favorite game this generation. Sadly, I was a little disappointed in Shadow Hearts 3. Don't get me wrong, it's still a enjoyable game and I prefer it over most RPGs out there, but I really miss the seriousness and the dark, gothic atmosphere of SH1.

Atlus for Shin Megami Tensei: Nocturne, Digital Devil Saga 1 and Digital Devil Saga 2. All those games are excellent; I especially love the fast-paced and deep press-turn battle system.

Blizzard.

Because they made the first MMORPG I've played. Jury is still out on whether the impression made on my life was good or bad though.

Honorable mention to Nintendo of course.

Atlus - sweet RPG action
Team ICO - enough said
SEGA - VF4, REZ, Space Channel 5, etc, etc

Square Enix (impressed me by being schitt) - other than FFX and DQ8 (and maybe KH) nothing either impressive or innovative Wasn't this merger supossed to bring together the talets of the best two RPG houses? WTF! where's the creativity been!

It's not really a developer but what's impressed me is that the whole 1st party and 2nd party horde for Sony having really set themselves in stone. Each developer within showing distinct personalities and Sony as a result making more AAA games than any of the other console makers.

Cant choose just one..

Intelligent Systems - Every single game they've made this gen has been good to great.

Nintendo R&D1 - Their GBA lineup was awesome: Metroid Fusion, Zero Mission, Warioland and Warioware.

Doublefine - Ok so they've only made 1 game in like 5 years.. but Psychonauts was an wonderful experience. Well designed and varied levels, great artstlyle and soundtrack.. not to mention Razputin is probably the most likeable hero in platformer ever.

Cave - The current king of shooters.

The most promising "new" developer would be G.Rev. Senko no Ronde is my most wanted Xbox 360 game.

Aruze... someone has to give 'em some props for the Shadow Hearts games. They went, in 2 titles, from unknown to one of the best RPG series' on the market.

If I have to pick one, I'd say it's probably Konami. I just noticed almost 50% of my current-gen games are from Konami. Including re-releases, but still. :lol

Gotta give a nod to SCE and Rockstar North though.

SCEI Production Studio 1 (aka Team ICO), hands down. Ueda is a motherfuckin' genius, and now that I've experienced the utter brilliance of SotC, I can say with confidence he now rivals Kojima as the greatest developer working today.

Others that I've been extremely impressed with this gen:

Kojima Productions - No explanation needed; MGS2 and MGS3 are simple perfection, ZOE2 packs a visual bravado yet matched and MGA is a definite underrated gem. MGA2 GET!

Polyphony Digital - Just when I thought GT3 was car-splooging flawlessness, Kaz hits us with GT4, the greatest driving/racing/car game ever made.

Level-5 - Came out of nowhere and blew us away with DC2 and DQVIII; Rogue Galaxy looks to be even better too.

Harmonix - Frequency and especially Amplitude still remain two of the most underrated games released this gen.

What he said. :)
Might add Rockstar North (whoever makes the GTA games) to that list though.

There are a lot of developers who have made a big impression on me, but two stand out.

Konami
It only took one game from them this gen to realise how good they were. When I began playing MGS2 I couldnt put it down at all. I managed to complete the game the first time I played it. For about 9 to 10 hours all I did was play MGS2 non-stop. beofre this there had never been a game that had made me do something so sad, but thats because the game was so amazing. It just blew me away. MGS2 became one of the best games I had ever played.

Then there was ZOE2. I had never played the first one because many people had told me that its not very good, but when the second one came out it ws different. Everyone was raving on about how amazing the game was and it didnt take me long to realise that they were right. Just an hour into the game and I was obsessed, I couldnt put the controller down. This time i wasnt so sad and i actually stopped playing after a couple of hours, but the game was really unique. It had a geat concept, it controlled great, the graphics were amazing and the story and characters were just as good as anything else in the game.

Just when i thought they couldnt do much better, they made MGS3, which is now my favourite game of all time. There has never been a game which is perfect, but MGS3 comes very close. The traditional MGS gameplay was made even better and although many complained about the camera angle, I still loved it. The graphics looked amazing too, it was something really special. The story ws just on another level though. I really though that they couldnt top MGS2's story even though nearly everone hated it for some strange reason, but MGS3's story was just incredible. From beginning to end it was mindblowing and the ending of that game is something like no other. It was probabkly the first ending of a game that made my eyes watery. Fuck FFVII's ending, fuck any other ending, MGS3's enging is unmatched and so is the game.

Last but not least is the PES series, which has made me spend countless hours just sitting in front of the tele playing it.

Atlus R&D 1
Ive never been a big RPG fan, but DDS might have changed all that. Before DDS the only RPG's I played were FFX or anything else by Square-enix. This generation I gave a few others a shot. I played ToS, whoch was crap and I also played Dark Chronicle which was really good, but DDS is amazing. I decided to give the ganme a go. I found it for real cheap so I had nothing to lose and I am so happy that I decieed to buy the game. It has probably been the best RPG this gen. Im not going to explain why I enjoyed it so much, but i really loved both DDS games. Ive never had the chance to play their better RPG, SMT Nocturne but I've heard its even better! From now on Im going to keep a close eye on what Atlus R&D1 are doing because i dont want to have to miss out on any of their amazing games.

Sucker Punch! They just kick ass.

They left a big impression on me last generation. ;) Rocket: Robot on Wheels was great. :)

Intelligent Systems. I had hardly heard of them in 2001, but I love them now. PM2, FE, and AW are all fantastic games.

Never played Advance Wars, but take that off and add Mario Kart: Super Circuit, and you have my answer. :D

1.Nintendo EAD
For screwing up Sunshine, Windwaker and Luigi's mansion.
And making Pikmin 2 , DK jungle beat(Zelda TP, Mariokart DS) absolute master pieces.
Honorable mentions:
Amusement Vision : Fzero GX
Retro studios : Metroid prime
Intelligent systems : Advance wars 2
Capcom : Resident evil 4

Harmonix all the way.

They've not dropped the ball once this gen (yet to try Guitar Hero but it's on order already - can't wait) and I'm still playing the hell out of Amplitude to this day, as much as I ever have. Multiplayer with silly skilled rivals is just insanely good.

Runner-up prizes of a big ol' bundle of respect go to Capcom (DMC3/RE4), Sony (GoW, GT4), Konami (MGS3, PES5) and those lovely chaps at Criterion, of course - Burnout is magnificent and online play is an absolute riot.

Rock Star:

GTA 3
GTA VC

Remedy Games did the Max Payne games, and 3/4th of those games sucks ass. But i can respect people opinions :D

Bioware for KoTOR.. may others follow in their path

I can't. Can you post your list so I can make fun of it.
Yeah sure np:

Tigon Studios for Chronicles of Riddick
Remedy Games for Max Payne 1&2
Bioware for Kotor

And Annecy for Splinter Cell 2's online mp(which i think impressed me the most this generation)

Those are thread based, i can also post my fav games in general if you feel like making fun of those, but can i bash Midnight Club and Manhunter then?

I've been impressed by the skill of Rockstar, Cero and Naughty Dogs to have produce games that really pushes the PS2.
Capcom and Konami are also honorable mentions. Those are pretty much always stable favorites for me.
