Don't plan stuff for maintenance day. It is every Tuesday...
Yeah guys, don't plan on doing anything on your game systems on the day that videogames release! That'll solve the issues!

I love my PS4 to death, use it daily, but Jesus Christ. The PSN service is such a piece of crap. It goes down so much more often than comparable services AND for much longer intervals. When you pay $50 a year (or whatever you find it on sale for) AND $15 a month for an MMO on PS4, you'd really like for the service to work so that you can play the damn games.

/rant. Sigh. Please... just start working better :(

...and here comes the PSN defense force...lol

What the hell is this? lol

Seriously?

where exactly do you find year subs in the $30-35 range for XBL yet you find it impossible to get PS+ for less than $45? where do you get the $30 so easily to find the other impossible? genuine question.
can we stop with the idea that xbl is almost never down. it's down at the very least once a month. it's down a lot too you just barely hear about the backlash, it was down less than a week ago, including online multiplayer. Same for june too.

My personal experience is that XBL hasn't gone down once in 2 yrs since I've owned my Xbones...but PSN has gone down multiple times since I've owned my PS4s. Simple math from my perspective. More importantly, network *performance* is far better on XBL with consistently higher DL speeds & less lag in MP games. Again, this is my experience. Results may vary. But this is why, for me at least, the tables have turned since both consoles launched. After the Xbone launch screwed up 6 ways from Sunday & it became clear the Xbone has inferior hardware I envisioned my PS4s being my primary console throughout the generation with my Xbones being 2nd-fiddle as MS exclusive boxes. But, for me, that has pretty much reversed since launch...& network performance (along w/ online/social experience) has a lot to do with it. Have you noticed that there seems to be a growing consensus that PSN kinda hasn't improved much if at all since the PS3 days or do you just choose to ignore the weekly threads on GAF to that effect? Do you think there's a conspiracy to make up or exaggerate PSN network problems/performance?

As for where to find cheap XBL...look around, it's much easier to find than cheap PS+. Newegg & CDkeys have XBL subs in the $30-$35 range constantly. Probably a combination of factors including MS being firmly in 2nd place so is trying harder & utilizing a little more price flexibility in the sales channel.

PSN going down and sacrificing itself was worth it for this hilarious meltdown. You'll be alright chap.

I love how assessing PSN in a realistic light compared to its primary competitor automatically qualifies as a "meltdown", as if you somehow picture me throwing my PS4s out the window. Lol Swing & a miss. I actually prefer my PS4s vs my Xbones in terms of hardware, but the fact is the PSN network backbone just isn't as good as XBL. Its pretty obvious to many of us who regularly use *both* consoles.

Seriously? When PSN goes down it's normally less than a day or so, not even that.

I've been on the service since 2007 and it's pretty stable in my experience. Some major hyperbole comments from people on here as always.

Exactly. If a service is down for less than a day, what's the problem?

Some very strange comments in this thread.

Less than a day... It's acceptable to you? I mean it's a service that we pay, at a high price (yes 49$ a year is a high price), on PS3 the PSN was awful and on PS4, now that it's not free anymore, it's still the same... It's not normal...

And the awfully slow downloads for most of people, everydays, every hours... It's ok too? :/

I mean I love Sony, I have all their consoles, but when they suck, they suck, that's all. :(

Reading some of the responses in here reminds me why PSN is still, after several years, inferior to its competition. Because "what's the big deal?" "Who cares? It's only a day, or two."

You're paying the same money as people pay for XBL. I just think it's fair to expect a similar product, and even if it's not similar, I expect it to work often. Of course there will be random outages, but they shouldn't last DAYS, and hilariously enough WEEKS (though I don't think that has happened in a long while).

I'm just simply asking for PSN to be better. I really don't think that's too much to ask for, considering. Maybe buying FFXIV on PS4 was a mistake. I missed the release of the new raid dungeon last night because PSN decided it was done working until after I had already gone to bed. Huge bummer.

Also, can we talk about the hilarious speed of downloads on the network? Or is that "hyperbole" too?

Which is fair but you are saying it's inferior to the competition and for many of us that's not true. It's on par or better than the competition and again the download speeds is not affecting everyone, I get my full download speed from PSN as I do from XBL and Steam.

I honestly hope they improve it for everyone and if there's something that can be done to correct it for the ones having the speed issues.

How your phrasing it is why you are being called out. I think there's certainly an exaggeration from some posters on how "bad" they think PSN is but for others it may be that bad but XBL is often just as bad especially in the last couple years.

It would be nice for both service to get to state that they work flawless all the time for everyone, that's how It should go and I hope both services keep improving because it really does feel like Xbox live has regressed and it seems like that PSN has regressed for some as well.

I managed to get my Project Cars patch and Rocket League, but could not get Styx downloaded last night because it slowed to a crawl and then stalled out completely. I never had any problems with download speeds on PS4 until recently and now it is all over the place.

A day here and there doesn't bother me at all, most of the time it's due to planned maintenance. I've never had a problem with my download speeds, playing online etc.

Obviously I feel for you guys/gals that do, but all the people I know who use PSN haven't had any problems either.

The only major problems I've had are when PSN went down for a month, and when it was DDOS'd.

I believe the service could been even better, and more consistent all round, but in my experience it's pretty good.

We are paying the same money for the service, but we also get more games than the XBL gives, and that's the main reason for why those who subscribed to PS+ on the PS3 are paying for it now. It seems like people often overlook this.

I've very rarily witnessed outages on PSN, but I don't play online very often either. Only ME3 on the PS3, and Destiny on the PS4 last year, plus Driveclub challenges. Apart from the problems related directly to DC, there hasn't been a single day when I couldn't have played those online.

As for download speeds, mine have been good on the PS4, from the launch day up until the recent weeks. Apparently Sony is currently investigating the slowed speeds here in Europe, so that could have something to do with the recent issues. Although my problems might have something to do with the ISP as well, based on the occasional network issues I've had during the past weeks.

So, yeah, from my perspective it does sound a bit hyperbolic.

What are you on about? No shit people buy it for the free games and discounts but that was precisely their excuse for making PS+ a requirement on the PS4 for online play.

I get that. But Sony, just like any business, acts to increase revenue. Network stability and performance has not, and probably will never sell subscriptions. But thread upon thread about free games does.

Seriously, I never wanted the online systems to become another way to deliver content, especially content I don't ask for.

Good post. Are there growing pains and things Sony needs to address? Of course. Is it literally the worst thug ever as many people in here are making it seem like? Not at all.

PSN acting up again at the moment? I was on an hour ago and What's New, Recent Activities, and Game Overviews weren't loading. Reading some similar reports on Twitter and elsewhere.

Some PSN features did take a hit last year when Destiny arrived, due to the influx of new players. I guess they weren't prepared for it, and based on their past comments about being surprised by the popularity of the system, it may create further problems if/when the userbase expands exponentially.

It is acting up for me still. I'm in the UK. Was able to play for a while earlier, got kicked, haven't been able to get on since. 3 times in a week this has happened to me now... Each lasting longer than a day.

Yeah, this is happening to me right now as well (Spain). Can't log in either Destiny or Dark Souls 2. Can't see friends list. Sony pls, this is just embarrasing.

Heh, just came from the fighting game deal thread.

I just get "Sign in Failed" over and over.

Piece of shit network is down again.

Getting ready to buy an Xbox.

Well I already have one...and a Wii U...and a PC....I'm running out of optional things to buy when this happens.

Lol. I had a lot of time today to play FFXIV once I got off... but I guess PSN has other issues. I feel like I was just complaining about this la--

--oh, right. My post still sits at the top of this page. Sigh.

I have a #BetterPSN suggestion... work when you release new games?

This is seriously getting out of control. They need to get this shit straightened out. Feels like everytime I have a day off from work PSN is all screwed up. It's just unacceptable.

Literally just got home from best buy with the new Godzilla game. Went to the psn store to download the preordered bonus, and it's down.

Why.

I'm pretty sure that's the universe's way of telling you that you shouldn't have bought the new Godzilla game.

Can things be pushed to the storefront at any time, or does it need to be a Tuesday?

Their decision to do it (mostly) on tuesday -- sometimes there's new content on wednesday or friday.

This shit is indefensible. Figure out a better way to do it, or figure out a way to get the network stronger. It goes down (for varying amounts of time) at the weakest gust of wind, it seems.
