What are Kirby's best and worst copy abilities?

Best: Hammer

Hammer is good in every game. It does great damage and the invincibility frames are ridiculous.

Worst: Circus

Look, it might not be horrible, but I basically have no idea how to use it offensively and I actively try to avoid it.

Archer is actually totally invincible when you camo in Triple Deluxe. It's the only ability i think is outright broken.

I find the dash attack with Circus good. You jump through a ring of fire to do damage and it can also light fuses or melt ice blocks. Down attack if there's something below you.

In stages with the moving walls, they can still crush you even in Archer camo. It's probably the best one, but others can give you invincibility if you hold L/R.

My personal favorites are Archer, Yo-yo, Water, and Beetle. Archer is not only rad looking and fun to use, but also OP as hell due to having a free invincibility guard. Yo-yo is just fun and involves hitting things to death with a yo-yo which is a great weapon. Water is all sorts of great, with not only a ton of invincibility frames from its dash move and rainbow move, but also just being fun to use and move around with. And Beetle is Suplex with a cooler hat and wings, and thus is perfect.

As for worst... I dunno, for the Superstar-style games where every ability is given a lot of moves, I think they do a pretty admirable job of making them all fun to use in their own ways. For instance, I would have said Leaf until recently when I decided to try using it more and found out it was actually a lot of fun and it just had a weak normal B move.

I've never loved beam. Abilities where Kirby has to be still and let the enemies run into his spikes or electric field or sown thing are lame. Circus also seemed lame. Rock is pretty cool though.

The best is probably Super Star's plasma or bomb ability. You shoot out DBZ energy blasts and Kirby does a cool pose and enemies are hurt by your energy that surrounds you.

Best? There's plenty of worthy candidates in my mind (Beam, Yo-Yo, Sword, Doctor, Hammer, etc.), but my favorite is Parasol for the sole reason that I get a huge kick out of watching Kirby gently float down with a parasol. That, and it's such an awesome combination of badassery and jokey cuteness all in one.

Worst is easily either Bubble (Squeak Squad) or any of the gimmick crap in Amazing Mirror (Tiny/Magic). Former probably edges out for being incredibly useless (especially once Kirby's stomach is full) and not fun at all to use.

In Triple Deluxe and Robobot, they added Plasma's move set to Spark. They buffed the shield aspect, too, but they nerfed the damage of the fully charged shot.

I like too many of them. Hammer, Parasol, Suplex, Ice, Yo-yo, Mike, Archer, Water, Ninja, Bomb, Fighter on top of my head...
UFO is clearly the best objectively speaking.

Ball is the one I really never got, so it's the worst to me.

Is Kirby 64 still worth playing btw?

I think it's safe to say base Kirby is already probably the most powerful character in Nintendo's stable.
Shit like this irritates me because everbody forgets kirby is a few inches big. He isn't able to swallow anything that is too much bigger than himself, besides with that ultra suction power thing but even then, nothing that is huge compared to himself.

Kirby 64's copy abilities are GOAT

I still wonder why the hell they haven't brought back ability combining. The best thing the kirby series has ever done. Goddamn it.

I recently got Triple Deluxe for my birthday and realized that they merged the two abilities. That's why I said Super Star's plasma. When I was a baby and discovered that you basically built up static electricity by moving Kirby across the ground back and fourth and then become semi invincible due to your energy shield and then could quickly launch that energy at enemies I was so excited. Also your copy bro is just always flying. It was amazing!

In Superstar you could use Beam while moving, by performing a dash jump and then pressing attack in mid-air. Probably other Kirby games where you can do this but I can't remember.

Kirby 64 is my favorite Kirby game because of that. They eventually made a sequel to Canvas Curse so maybe there's still hope. Combining abilities really added a ton of depth to what was usually really simplistic platforming in this series.

It is really strange that it hasn't come back. Though to me single abilities having actual move lists is the more fun style of game (because Super Star is my favorite game in the series.)

Just glad the traditional Kirby games haven't just stuck with the fire only breaths fire, ice only breaths ice, sword only does a slash.

The best would be a mix of both worlds. A wide number of abilities, be able to mix them, and have them have move lists.

Ghost is the most fun. It's a shame it was only in Squeak Squad which is my least favourite

My go-to Kirby ability for boss rushes is hammer, so I'd say that's my favourite

Superstar Ultra really was the best thing to happen to the series imo. It brought back Superstar having every ability feel like a Smash moveset, and has a bunch of my favourite things that are now series staples like the True Arena and a New Game + as a different character featuring a new final boss

We have a winner.

The best and worst are exclusive to the same game: Squeak Squad. Ghost being the best, and Metal being the worst.

Ghost is just an infinite amount of fun. Possess enemies, get access to their powers, and conquer all of the other enemies. Or just do things the efficient way and insta-kill mobs with the "Erase" move after possessing them.

Metal... is just a worse version of Stone. Its main move is pretty much the same thing as Stone's, just without the defensive capabilities against bosses. Not to mention it slows you down to molasses. They specifically removed Stone from Squeak Squad just to give us a lesser, unwieldy version of it. At least the borderline-useless abilities named so far have flavor.

(Doesn't help matters that Squeak Squad was one of the worst Kirby games.)

Has any other kirby game done the combination thing that 64 did?

Squeak Squad had a few abilities like Ice Bomb and Fire Sword that could be used by collecting the respective hidden scrolls and combining the specific abilities in Kirby's stomach. That's about it though.

Technically Kirby's Dreamland 2 and 3 sort of had an element of this as rideable characters had twists on each ability you could use.

Seriously. There's a cutscene in brawl where Nintendo's entire pantheon serves as a distraction so Kirby can one-shot a massive flying fortress.

Is there any real point to Parasol? I know there's the occasional puzzle revolving around it (although even those are rare), but I've never felt a need to grab it otherwise. My vote's on that one.

Also, this is kind of off-topic, but I do like how they are condensing copy abilities in the recent games (i.e. mixing the Plasma ability's moveset into Spark, giving Beetle Backdrop/Suplex-esque combat).

I only just encountered it, but I like the new poison ability in robobot. It has a few fun moves, but most moves
also leave a toxic puddle on the ground that hurts enemies that walk throguh it
. Sort of fun for a different way to play.

Parasol works underwater so I often grab it for that reason.

Fighter Kirby is a fun one for me.

I love how the ability's moveset expanded for the newer games, and I especially like how satisfying the sounds made when landing a hit.

Like top 5 are what? Kirby, Shulk, Ness/ Lucas, Pit, and one legendary Pokemon.
Kirby is in another class entirely due to his ability to absorb the abilities of others. I was going to say, maybe something like Arceus is the most powerful. But Kirby could just eat him. Kirby regularly goes up against the most potent threats in Nintendo's universe, and defeats them with pep in his step and a smile on his face. And he's like 8 inches tall.

I compare it to something like the Marvel universe and see Kirby's world as equivalent to the cosmic stuff. He's saving planets, not kingdoms.

Planet Robobot spoiler:
Even a wish granting reality altering super computer is freaking out over how powerful Kirby is.

Kirby is just an eldrich abomination in a cute form at this point.

Kirby is probably number 1.
Shulk is likely number 2 because he can see the future and by the end of xenoblade
actually rewrites reality in some sense, though the extent of this power or if it was a permanent skill he gained are up to interpretation
.
Then earthbounds characters, as has already been said.
Then pit because while his skills aren't quite as up to the above, he's functionally immortal, even if you do kill him.

Certain pokemon then fall here, but pokemon are all so over the place, it's hard to judge how strong they would actually be.

Then there's probably a significant power drop where you get back to strong but only superhuman characters. Samus is probably the next strongest, routinely saving planets and the occasional genocide like it ain't no thang. then zelda characters, then mario, fire emblem and various other franchises.

That video posted earlier just upgraded my Ninja game so much. I never thought before to Izuna Drop the stars and projectiles from bosses to do massive damage.

Ninja is now by far my favorite, though this thread has really opened my eyes regarding some of the others, like Archer, Mirror and Whip, that I hardly used to use. I still don't like Hammer though.

What makes Earthbound's characters especially powerful? Isn't a theme of those games that the heroes can't defeat their enemies by themselves? I played Earthbound but never finished Mother or Mother 3, so maybe I'm not up to speed.

I've always liked Fighter, Sword, and (of course) Chef

Worst? I dunno. Outside of Sleep, which is literally a joke, I've never been a huge fan of Stone, but it's gotten better in recent installments.

e: Oh yeah, Spike is a good candidate for worst. Never been a fan.

You're not wrong that in general the mother series has the party each time unable to defeat the final boss without calling on outside help.

However, that they're even able to challenge a creature known as the "Universal Cosmic Destroyer" who, quoting the wiki here, "intends to sentence all of reality to the horror of infinite darkness." without being immediately obliterated puts them above a lot of people just by default. Said cosmic destroy also uses some of the same powers as Ness

Kirby beat Majin Buu. Let's face it, Kirby can probably beat Superman, Goku, and One Punchman.

Not enough love for Beetle in here, that ability was great!

I don't really know that I have one I think is the worst, but while some of the actual abilities in 64 are pretty cool, they lose a lot to me by not having outfits. I get that due to the combo system it would be a little unrealistic to have unique outfits for all of them, but it still disappointed me.

Best Kirby: The Monado

It breaks Kirby as a character as it gives him the ability to cover all of his usual weaknesses. Also can't really get much better than god-weapon on a nigh-invulnerable, super-powered puffball who routinely kills other god-like monstrosities and eldritch abominations that make The Moon Presence look like a panzy.

He can also see the future!
This is why I avoid Shulk when fighting a Kirby player.

I would like Ninja, but I can't figure out how to fire shurikens and do the sword attack. I guess you just tap the B button to shoot throwing stars, but sometimes I would slash when I don't mean to.

And yeah, sometimes I also drop my ability to inhale and shoot a star and then pick my ability back up.

Spark + Pitch in Dreamland 3 is the best as far as I'm concerned, loved playing as Gooey and sitting in one spot while I followed Kirby around with R.C. Pitch.

Also I'm a bit tired of the SS-style movesets we've had in the last couple of games, wouldn't mind a brief return to the single-move Dreamland Style + expanding each power through combining it with other elements.

Refrigerator, bomb shuriken, UFO, bouncy ball, and curling rock were always among my favorites. Can't really think of a worst.

That's exactly how you do it. If you press the button harder, it's a sword slice. If you tap quickly, he throws projectiles.
