Came to post this.

And also to warn the OP not to listen to anyone recommending Sunshine.

BRICK is one of my absolute favoritest movies. i can just watch it over and over.

i also agree with the person who said THE RUNDOWN. it's an action movie that nods and winks to action movie conventions without being completely obvious or obnoxious about it. it also seems like a glimpse into what dwayne johnson could be as a charismatic action lead. he's infinitely more talented than most of the big 80s action stars, but the climate for him is just not present for him in film.

maybe one day though. i still love the guy.

At least in my Top 5 of favorite movies of all time.

Dwayne Johnson started 25 years too late. It's too bad, really; he has the definite look of an action star.

all the look and twice the charisma (of most). that's the sad part.

Hard Eight is a great film that no one ever talks about. I love the old guy's voice in that movie..so unique. Directed by the guy who did Boogie Nights.

Sydney is a veteran gambler in his sixties who still spends his time at the casinos. When he meets John, a loser with no money at all, he sees him as a son and tries to help him. He takes care of him and teaches him all the tricks of his work. He also helps him to make a relationship with Clementine, a young girl who works at the casino as a waitress. John doesn't seem to be bothered by the fact that Clementine is also a hooker, but soon something happens that turns their lives upside down.

City of God (watch this one) if you're only gonna watch one.

basically anything shown late at night on IFC at around 1am

City of God (which really is great) reminded me of David Cronenberg for some reason. All his films, although violent, are very solid and well done. So far I've seen A History of Violence, Spider, and Eastern Promises. They're all underrated.

To answer an above question, Bringing Out the Dead is not particularly hard to watch. It's a lesser Scorsese movie, but I think that Nicolas Cage gives a really interesting performance; plus, Scorsese is at home in New York, so there's a nice atmosphere in the movie.

Edit: Also, YES to the man who said Hard Eight. I think that Paul Thomas Anderson has gotten better with each movie, but he started at a really high mark with Hard Eight.

Okay. How about this:

Perfect movie imo. I think I´ve seen it about 20 times. Also bought 'Hagakure' from Tsunetomo Yamamoto because I was so fascinated from Jarmuschs interpretation of it.
