What are the best and worst Chrono Trigger parties?

Marle is good. She has haste and is part of what is imo the strongest team, of Marle/Robo/Crono, which gives you access to lifeline, the most powerful defensive spell in the game.

Defense is pointless, nothing can kill you. Robo is garbage, replace with nuke master Magus.
 
Holy shit this game is going to be twenty years old in a little over a year.

I saved before that section and checked for additional dialogue back on the SNES. Best dialogue choices are either Marle or Lucca.
Also, Ayla's dialogue in the DS game is much more accurate and actually kind of raunchy from time to time.

The DS game is always on me if I have my 3DS XL or 2DS with me.
If I could, I would pay up for the DS game digitally on the 3DS. Sorry, the PSOne version and the iOS versions have problems.
 
Chrono, Lucca, Robo.

Robo is a monster if you use magic tabs on him, he's the best healer and shock is a great attack spell.


Worst team is any one with Frog. He's really the only bad character in the game. Not that any of it matters, the game is so easy that it doesn't matter who you use.
 
As a kid I always went with Crono, Marle, Lucca, switched to Crono, Marle, Frog before Magus's Castle, then switched back to Crono, Marle Lucca sometime in 12,000 BC. Who knew I was literally picking the worst party combinations? I also thought Cyan from FFVI was a must-have in the World of Ruin...

Of course Cyan is a must have. It's Celes and Tina that are garbage.
 
My go to party was always Crono, Frog, and Ayla.

Their triple tech does decent damage but really I had them because Frog and Ayla had the most effective group heal (and it costs peanuts) and Crono has some great solo attacks. All of them can deal out decent damage on their own too.

Worst...anything with Lucca.
 
How can anyone not have Magus? Especially after that boss fight against him. And have you seen his spellcasting animation? That alone warrants him a place in ALL JRPGs lineups, let alone just Chrono Trigger.
 
I've always gone with Crono/Ayla/Marle or Crono/Ayla/Magus. As far as I'm concerned Lucca is garbage and doesn't belong in any end game party.
 
Chrono, Robo, Ayla can really dish out the hurt.

I tend to use all characters though except Lucca (although she is really useful against those enemies that use what ever element damage against you)

*edit* the Golems. So hard until you learn how to exploit the fuck out of them.
 
I've never had Marle or Lucca in my party when rescuing Crono (because they suck). It's always been Frog, Magus, and Ayla.

What extra story am I missing out on?

EDIT: Haste and Prism Helm are useless. Nova Armor protects your status (and so does Prism Dress for the ladies), and Haste Helm is the way to go. Moon Armor sucks, too.

in my party (hell, if some of you are calling Frog Glenn I might as well call
Magus Janus
).

High damage, great techs, and Robo's got solid healing.

Frog is really, really bad. I use him all of the time, but he still sucks. (The buffs he got from the DS version were nice, but not good enough)
 
Crono + Frog + dead weight is the best party.

I always end up settling on Crono + Frog + Lucca.

Worst party would be not-Crono, not-Frog, and ... Marle

Were they even nice? A badge that reduces MP cost? He's not even a MP heavy character. Compared to what the other characters get, it's pretty poor.

Chrono/Ayla/Robo is by far the most DPS per round of attacks. You won't need Marle either once you have Haste Helm / Nova Armor etc.

The problem with the DS version is that with the added content, they made the other characters better as well so it doesn't bring Frog up to par. The problem is his base attack is simply lower than Ayla/Robo and he has no multi-hit Physical techs to make up for this. To make it worse he really doesn't have a "Flare" like Lucca (neither does Marle) which post-game makes them not really worthwhile to use.
 
If you know how to play the game, Crono, Marle, and Ayla. You can also break the game with Magus and Dark Matter. Worst team? Ditch Crono and use the overrated Robot with certain combos.

I choose party by how cool I think the characters :D

The fist comments already said everything... they are the best party in the game... AWESOME.

The DS content is also stupidly overpowered. I mean Lucca gets an armor that makes her immune to elemental attacks, and a helm that makes her status immune and auto-hasted.

why crono marle ayla? I never even considered that to be top tier and I'm just curious.

Crono, Frog, Marle

Crono, Frog, Lucca

Crono, Robo, Lucca

Crono, Lucca, Marle

Crono, Frog, Magus

Yeah, Crono was my favorite. Luminare is still one of my favorite skills/spells in all JRPGs.

Two haste helms plus haste cast. Then you get the best DPS in the game.

Been awhile since I played but doubt it has changed on me. Venus Bow makes your battery sickly scary for the DS version. You can also always just gold stud Magus with haste and ride into the sunset. I can still out DPS a magus team though with Cr/Ay/Ma. Robo is super slow to make up the diff with even 9999. And speed tabs don't count as I can give those to Crono instead with 2x cuts.

It you have everything at your disposal in vanilla, you can get faster to victory with Cr/Ay/Ma. Charms never hurt ether.
 
Magus always leads my endgame parties because he has the best run animation. And yeah Robo with boosted magic tabs was a monster, but without also spending speed tabs on him it made him too ungainly to use, so I went Magus/Marle/Ayla for the powerhouse trio.
