So, I recently had a Guinness with some pizza and it really wasn't that good. A bit incompatible with each other.

What kind of beer does the Gaf prefer when paring it with a nice slice of pie?

I like a good IPA; Dogfish Head 60 or 90 minute. Lagunitus IPA is really good as well. A high hop concentration works really well with pizza.

Agreed, but the 90 minute is so damn good I almost like to have it alone to enjoy every ounce of flavor.

Great Lakes Dortmunder Gold Lager if it's available in your area.

For pizza I don't like anything fancy. Just a frosty Old Style in a bottle works great.

:lol I can't get Old Style in Ohio, but my family lives around Chicago and I pick up a case every time I'm out there. Love that stuff.

Haha, yeah I live in the one area of Northwest Arkansas that sells it. Fell in love with the stuff visiting my friends in Chicago.

I'll prolly get laughed at for this but coors light isn't half bad with a pizza as far as non light beer goes Shiner Bock also gets the job done. Shiner might be a bit hard to find depending on where you live.

Do you use it or did you just google find it? I found it after I asked and they want me to sign up and log in to search? Lame.

I used it once to look at pumpkin ale ratings. Never used the search. You can go to Beer Styles to get a listing of ale and lager styles if you're looking for something particular.

Signing up isn't a big deal, but it's like... I want to resist and search by "beeradvocate + X ale" :lol

Also, when I search by styles all it is is things I never heard of and probably can't buy locally. Woe is me.

What about ales?

Depends; simple beers goes well with pizza, ergo the lager recs. I love spicy/Belgian ales but can't really reconcile the full-bodied tastes with pizza.

Beeradvocate is about the most authoritative beer rating guide/community out there. If you want a lot of detailed beer reviews, I think you'll find the site REALLY useful.

Also a useful site for your 21st b-day, now that I think about it. :lol

It really depends on the toppings. But, you chose poorly with the Guinness because I've found most stouts don't hold up well with pizza :p

Another vote for Peroni. I can't even drink domestics now.

The effervescence is so fine and makes for a very refreshing beer, perfect to cut through the heaviness of pizza.

I love beer and I like pizza. Interstingly enough with pizza I prefer a coke over a beer.

Yeah, Guinness and pizza really don't go together. Then again I liked Guinness mixed with Cheerwine, so I got weird taste.

I don't think beer and pizza mix period. Beer is better with brats and burgers instead.

Coronita.

Long time ago when i used my fake id to buy me and my friends some beer. had to try and memorize all what everyone wanted. well i got kind of nervous and thought i grabbed a sixer of corona, when i gave it to my buddy he was pissed, i ended up grabbing him a sixer of coronitas. He drank everyone one of them but with a sad look on his face.

none

milk
While I don't think it is none, I oddly think milk is amazing with pizza.

I had a New Castle Brown Ale today and I think it would go great with pizza but I'm not really sure.

I dont like a heavy beer with pizza. I enjoy something real light, like a coors silver bullet, a beer I normally wouldn't drink on its own.

Pretty much any lager.

This. I'm generally pretty snobbish when it comes to beer, but pizza (at least the Chicago deep dish that I usually eat) is such a heavy dish that I tend to chug, rather than sip, whatever beverage I'm drinking with it. So in all honesty I don't know if I'd notice the difference between a good lager and a cheap one.

I'm also a beer snob, but you can't go wrong with Pabst Blue Ribbon (with food).

It won a blue ribbon in 1893! Beer has not progressed since 1893, so PBR is therefore the greatest beer ever made. :D
