What are the best zombie games?

If there is two things us gamers know about the undead in video games, its this:

1. They are the most common enemy ever.
2. They have a lot of games.

So, lets talk which ones stood out from the rest and was a fun experience for you. So, what do you think are the best zombie games?

I'll say the Left 4 Dead series. Two games that focused on cooperation through a troubling situation...that is until you get to the escape vehicle then its every person for themselves.

Fantastically tense zombie experiences. Plus the ones mentioned. Resident Evil is a classic and Left 4 Dead brought a whole other angle to it.

Still some of th best MP you can ever get your hands on. Every time people ask for a reboot or a new cast of characters with something more realistic in the RE universe, they seem to forget it's already been done. It's a great thing that the fan servers are online now. Well worth the price to try them out if you missed out originally. Especially if you have sown friends. When I think of a zombie game, outbreak is the first thing that comes to mind.

After that I would say ZombiU. I wouldn't even rank L4D personally. Not a fan of horde runner zombies and the special infected in that game. Especially when in SP where they're nothing more than a gimmick to keep the group together.

Resident Evil Remake for Gamecube, Resident Evil 2 and ZombiU are both great survival horror games.
Dead rising 1 and Dead Rising 2 Off the Record are more over the top arcadey open world action games where you roam around huge areas filled with hundreds of zombies killing them with all sorts of weapons. Kinda fun games in their own right.
I should really try State of Decay again, it had potential. Did the Year One edition improve anything?
EDIT
Resident Evil Outbreak was a great game, how could I forget that one!
The second was good too, but the first one just seemed more coherent and moody. RE O2 felt a bit more random with that zoo level thrown in there.

I refuse to believe that anything more than a vocal minority likes Outbreak.

these games need a fucking remaster ASAP!!

Dead Island and Dying Light.
Dying Light is probably overall the better game but at the time when I played I probably enjoyed Dead Island more.
Might not be as good as Dying Light if I went back to it these days though.

The Last of Us continues to be the pinnacle achievement in narrative-based story telling in Video Games. And it happens to have Zombies/infected.

Unceremoniously the winner.

1. Dead Rising
2. Resident Evil (GC)
3. Left 4 Dead
4. House of the Dead 2
5. Zombie Revenge
6. Zombies Ate My Neighbors
7. Dead Rising 2

Those are the best ones I've played. I'd probably put RE2 in there after L4D since I loved the game as a kid, but I honestly can't enjoy it any more because PS1-era 3D is rancid garbage.

Dead Rising is the best, though. There's still nothing else like it.

I had a surprising amount of fun with Dead Island, which is a game I always see people rail on. It's buggy and slow sometimes but I really dug the atmosphere and gameplay.

Dead Rising 2 was also a lot of fun.

Otherwise - Left 4 Dead 2 is probably objectively the best zombie game I've played.

1. Resident Evil

2. Dead Rising

3. Left 4 Dead

4. House of the Dead

It has to go to Resident Evil (GC) for best use of zombies. The zombies in that game are actually a challenge. They're not just cannon fodder.

The Dead Rising series is top notch.

Super fun gameplay and the ability to use almost every single item as a weapon.

The first is definitely my favorite but 2 and 3 are still great games.

Dead rising 1 was the first game I played for 360 that made me go "wow, this is truly next-gen."

I still hope to one day get a PC port of DR1, theres no game I'd rather have on PC except for Saints Row 1 and that's a really close tie.
