What are the chances of GTA V ending up on PS4 / One eventually?

Surely that can't still be an issue for them. That'd be like Epic not showing Gears of War 4 at E3 because they had bad experiences with Jazz Jackrabbit.

maybe they figure open world cinematic games like GTA don't demo well at trade show environments. They're probably right.

Chances of it being on next gen consoles is very high. Right away or at a later date is a better question. Is there a confirmed PC version for launch? It would likely be ported from that.

95%

A PS2 can play all the previous PSone GTA games.
A PS3 can play all the previous PSone GTA games in addition to all the PS2 ones

They'll find a way. Now if they do another release next May on next gen consoles, or have to take long to get it ported it over...that's the question. But there is big money in it, they'll make it work somehow.

I really, really hope the delay was so they had time do port it to next-gen. I would much rather play the game and a silky smooth framerate + 1080p.

Highly likely. But I doubt they'll announce it before the 360/PS3 version sells a ton. Best to wait and let it sell millions of copies first before letting consumers know a better version is on the way. Lots of money to be made off of double-dippers.

Incertain.

Rockstar will aim the most install base.

Right, no reason for them to split resources. Most of the player base will already be in place, and this holiday season, while important for an initial 1st run, the "next gen" numbers are going to be significantly smaller than XBOX360 and PS3. Not to mention the late adopters who will buy a PS3 or XBOX360 for a kid or themselves if they never had a console and are unable to get a PS4 or XBO. Have a friend ready to get a PS3 becuase he's expecting a price cut. It may come to XBO or PS4 but if they were to announce it, people would maybe glaze over the other versions. Kind of like when the iPhone 4 images leaked but Apple didn't say anything because it didn't want to affect the sales of the current iPhone.

Take-Two doesn't need next-gen to succeed

Strauss Zelnick said:
"We think next-gen is going to be successful, but even if it isn't, we develop great interactive entertainment for every platform that exists, and there's zero evidence that consumers are moving away from interactive entertainment," Zelnick said, adding, "We are totally ecumenical. The last thing we're going to do is bet on a particular piece of hardware."

Combine that with Rockstar's development process (ages man...ages), I don't think we'll see it anytime soon...if ever.

At this point in time it would be insane of Rockstar to NOT bring GTA 5 to the Xbone/PS4. There most certainly will do a PC version and from everything I have read "porting" the PC version to the Xbone/PS4 wouldn't require a tremendous amount of work (a mere few weeks according to Mark Cerny with regards to PC ports).

So in reality it would be relatively easy cheap money for them. It wouldn't surprise me if we see an Xbone/PS4 version released at the same time as the PC version with Rockstar spinning it as "see PC gamers we do release PC versions at the same time as the console versions".

However you won't hear about the PC/Xbone/PS4 version till well after the 360/PS3 has been launched and sales are dying off because they won't want people to delay their purchase of GTA 5 in the hope of the better "next gen" version.

This would be the single biggest factor to propel me in upgrading to a PS4/Xbone on release

I actually think there's a good chance.

I wouldn't expect it until sometime in 2014, but I can see them launching the PC and next gen versions alongside each other next Spring.

I really think you're reading it wrong.
You should probably read that again. It's saying absolutely nothing about the likelihood of a next gen release.
Of course it doesn't say anything about a GTA V next gen release.
duhhh
I just put it there because I think opinions of R*'s owner about next gen are kinda important if we discuss GTA V on next gen.
I meant nothing bad, folks.
If Take-Two sees profit in it, of course we'll see a next gen release, but I personally doubt it'll happen anytime soon.

I just realized how many people will buy a next gen console expecting to play their shiny new GTA V. Those poor souls.

Surely that can't still be an issue for them. That'd be like Epic not showing Gears of War 4 at E3 because they had bad experiences with Jazz Jackrabbit.

They are clearly very interested in controlling the message as much as possible.
You don't see them doing a lot of random gameplay videos, especially for GTA.

It would surprise me if it didn't show up at some point in 2014.

If they're gonna put it out for PC at some point, they're going to port it to the PS4 and Xbox One as well. They're so similar to PCs it would be silly not to.

1000% eventually.

But first they'll want to aim for the largest install base. If the period of time between the enhanced ports is big enough, substantial amount of people will double-dip.

Hopefully they do it while they're working on the PC port and hopefully it translates to the PC port showing a more streamlined and functional engine with better graphics. GTA4 had lots of issues on PC and didnt properly use the power available for the most part.

Rockstar are really hard to read when it comes to this stuff, they're good at keeping their information secret. But perhaps we'll see a PS4/XBOne release around the time the PC version typically comes out (6 - 7 months after initial launch), especially given architectural similarities.

Best answer. Hopefully they don't pull a Red Dead Redemption and have no plans for PC.

At the end of the day they are going to have to port the RAGE engine to the new platforms anyway it isn't like they can take the 360/PS3 version of the RAGE engine and run it on the new consoles.

However the PC version is "compatible" with the next gen consoles. It wouldn't surprise me if Rockstar have been working very hard on the PC version of the Engine in preparation for bringing it to the Xbone and PS4.

Honestly it just does not make sense to leave GTA 5 off the Xbone/PS4.

I'd say its almost a certainty.

Perhaps not at launch, but once they get around to doing the PC version it is simply a matter of doing a few easy ports.

I don't have it to hand but I thought in the latest issue of Edge they said it was something they would look into after the 360/PS3 release. So that made it sound pretty likely.

There's a small chance (5%) that I just imagined that.

I'm with those saying it releases next year with the PC version.

As much as people want it released this year, it's bad business. Not only will many people look at the graphics differences and decide to hold out till they buy the next gen system (costing them short term sales), but they're also losing double dip sales from those who buy at 360/PS3 launch, and then again when a better looking version is released.

I'm looking forward to GTAV sooo much, but there's no way I'm playing it on PS3/360.

Game deserves better fidelity.

I'll be waiting for legit next-gen versions, I hope they arrive sooner rather than later.

How is it any less legit having been developed specifically for the 360/ps3?

I'd like a ps4 version as well but I'm fine with owning a ps3 copy.

Largely depends on how much better the "still unconfirmed but we know exists" PC version of the game with much better assets than the 360/PS3 version are. In any case, if they did plan on next-gen versions, a) you aren't going to hear a hint about them because they don't want to spoil the launch of GTA V and b) we won't see them for a while.

Probably about the same as the chances of San Andreas coming to PS3 / 360 - ie; not gonna happen, unless it's as a PS3 classic or something. I think the games incoming for this gen are the swan songs, just like how games like San Andreas, FFXII and Metal Gear Solid 3 all served the same purpose for PS2.

You cannot compare the change from PS2 to PS3 with the change from PS3 to PS4. It would have taken a lot of work to rewrite the engine GTA SA used to work natively on the PS3. If memory serves GTA SA used Renderware which was a dying engine anyway. They clearly were not prepared to do that because Rockstar were already working on a new game engine for their titles.

However this time around Rockstar already have a working version of RAGE (in the form of the PC version) that would take very little effort to get working on the Xbone/PS4 and since they are showing no sign of ditching RAGE any time soon it makes sense to bring GTA 5 to the next gen consoles since they have to port the RAGE engine anyway.

6-9 months after release along PC version.
At later date? With added contents ala GOTY edition? Maybe.
If it´s going to come they´ll announce it a few months after the PS3/360 version. Same for PC.
Along with a PC version,or a GOTY version.
Very high but not for a while. Probably not until most/all of the DLC is out.

i agree with all this.... a very "Highly Likely" scenerio

the pc version will likely come in april 2014, ps3/360 game will have sold over 10 million copies and on 2nd dlc expansion pack... just my guess

I'd say 100%, eventually. Especially since the architecture of the next-gen consoles would make porting the PC version no big deal.

But you might wait a while.

They've done gameplay with the press. I'm not sure if that's been released publicly or not. I'd also bet that an E3 presentation would have more effort put in then some "random gameplay video". I honestly can't think of anything realistic that Rockstar would do that could count as a bad showing.

It's such a shame. I enjoyed multiplayer on RDM. And I was hoping it would be the same in GTA.

But I won't play online on my older consoles, when I do get new ones

Not before GTA 6.

They'll want to make sure next gen GTA will blow us away. GTA V on next gen consoles would lessen the impact.

Chances are good after a year or so. R*would love everyone to buy it on next-gen, just after they buy it for current gen. Plus its gonna be a couple of years until GTVI.
