You can use bulbapedia to look at entries for you favorites pokémon or you can't recall exactly what the entry said.

What are the most interesting ones Pokédex entries? Here is my favorite:

Kadabra:
250px-064Kadabra.png

Yelow:
Many odd things happen if this Pokémon is close by. For example, it makes clocks run backwards.
FireRed
It happened one morning - a boy with extrasensory powers awoke in bed transformed into Kadabra.

I liked how in the case of this last one, the entry opens more questions that it answer. Its also the only entry our of all the games that even mentions a boy turning into a Kadabra. Its so weird.

Lots of people claim the dex entries are not meant to be interpreted literally and a lot of them are "folklore-y."

Sometimes I get that, but I often secretly like to pretend these entries are real or literal. Chandeure's is horrifying (burns peoples' souls for fuel) but that makes it even cooler.

The boy waking up as Kadabra is my favorite. Why the middle evolution? Why wouldn't he wake up an Abra? It makes no sense.

Some other great ones:

Banette

"A doll that became a Pokémon over its grudge from being junked. It seeks the child that disowned it."

Drifloon:

"It is whispered that any child who mistakes Drifloon for a balloon and holds on to it could wind up missing."

Chandelure:

"Being consumed in Chandelure's flame burns up the spirit, leaving the body behind."

Farfetch'd:

"Farfetch'd makes a delicious meal, especially when cooked with leek. Because of this, Farfetch'd is nearly extinct."

PEOPLE EAT FARFETCH'D USING ITS OWN STICK FOR FLAVOR

Quite a few entries involving children being hunted or going missing. :lol

Hypno's:

It carries a pendulum-like device. There once was an incident in which it took away a child it hypnotized.

Diglett
250px-050Diglett.png

Gold:
Its skin is very thin. If it is exposed to light, its blood heats up, causing it to grow weak.

OrAs:
Diglett are raised in most farms. The reason is simple—wherever this Pokémon burrows, the soil is left perfectly tilled for planting crops. This soil is made ideal for growing delicious vegetables.

I really like this one because you wouldn't think why they like to give underground until you read that they hate the sun, is the kind of fact that doesn't affect gameplay but makes sense to the behavior of the pokémon. Also I love that they are raised on farms imagine a Diglett with a small strawhat on his head, protecting him from the sun while working.

I love the inconsistency between entries on just what exeggcute is supposed to be
X
Its six eggs converse using telepathy. They can quickly gather if they become separated.
y
Even though it appears to be eggs of some sort, it was discovered to be a life-form more like plant seeds.
OR/AS
This Pokémon consists of six eggs that form a closely knit cluster. The six eggs attract each other and spin around. When cracks increasingly appear on the eggs, Exeggcute is close to evolution.

Especially since they evolve using a stone, so that evolution description is nonsense!.

Mew.
Fire red - "A Pokémon of South America that was thought to have been extinct. It is very intelligent and learns any move."

lol, wow...

Is this only in the English pokedex, or was this in the original Japanese text? This seems like a big fuck-up.

Nidoran [male]
"It raises its big ears to check its surroundings. It will strike first if it senses any danger. "
"It is small, but its horn is filled with poison. It charges then stabs with the horn to inject poison."

Nidoran [female]
"The poison hidden in its small horn is extremely potent. Even a tiny scratch can have fatal results."

I like the implication that pokemon like this are the reason why kids aren't allowed to play in tall grass without a pokemon of their own. You can easily imagine children getting stabbed and poisoned because they accidentally startled a tiny rabbit like creature.

Long story short, no, the reference even goes as far to call out Guyana.

Edit: adding a contribution. I think the ghost Pokémon have some of the best lore.

Pumpkaboo -

OR: "The pumpkin body is inhabited by a spirit trapped in this world. As the sun sets, it becomes restless and active."
AS: "It is said to carry wandering spirits to the place where they belong so they can move on."

Pumpkaboos are implied to be psychopomps carrying the deceased to the afterlife, and also the carriers of trapped spirits. Combining the two: by capturing a Pumpkaboo, are you trapping a human soul on the material plane forever?

Food for thought.

lol I looked up the Indian Elephant one from that meme album loltna34 linked.

Both Raichu and Ghastly from the same game both reference Indian Elephants.
Its electric charges can reach even 100,000 volts. Careless contact can cause even an Indian elephant to faint.

A being that exists as a thin gas. It can topple an Indian elephant by enveloping the prey in two seconds.

They really should just have a malfunctioning Pokedex that compares every Pokemon to Indian Elephants.

In Pokemon Red I took the dex entries seriously. Never since.

Shame, because if I could 'trust' them I'd find them super-interesting. But I can't, and they're not.

Ah good, that's okay then.

Next you'll be telling me there's a pokemon that looks like a george foreman grill.

Please tell me there's a pokemon that looks like a george foreman grill.
Does an electric oven count?

Rotom is a ghost that possesses electrical appliances - it has other forms where it's possessed different things.

Thats as close at it gets lol.

Electrode explodes for fun.

HeartGold: It is dangerous. If it has too much electricity and has nothing to do, it amuses itself by exploding.

250px-199Slowking.png

Slowking only has its act together when Shellder is chomping on its skull.

ORAS: Slowking undertakes research every day in an effort to solve the mysteries of the world. However, this Pokémon apparently forgets everything it has learned if the Shellder on its head comes off.

250px-631Heatmor.png

Heatmor's tongue is made of fire.

B2W2: It draws in air through its tail, transforms it into fire, and uses it like a tongue. It melts Durant and eats them.

250px-547Whimsicott.png

Whimsicott is the cutest prankster ever.

B2W2: They appear along with whirlwinds. They pull pranks, such as moving furniture and leaving balls of cotton in homes.

Echoing the Pokémon connections with the real world, here is another one for Arcanine
250px-059Arcanine.png

Yellow:
A legendary Pokémon in China. Many people are charmed by its grace and beauty while running.

HeartGold:
This legendary Chinese Pokémon is considered magnificent. Many people are enchanted by its grand mane.

If the World of Pokémon is post-apocalyptic, this means China pretty much still exist, lol.

Pokémon isn't post apocalyptic, the first few games take place in modern day Japan. (Kanto = Kanto, Johto = Kansai, Hoenn = Kyushu, Sinnoh = Hokaido), while other games take place all over the world (Unova = New York, Kalos = France, Orre = Arizona). Nothing indicates post apocalypse.

That is why I said "If", personally I don't think it is, but I have seen a few fairly convincing fan-theories, but really the Pokémon world is what it is.

Also I just found this interesting entry:
Poliwag
250px-060Poliwag.png

Ruby:
TPoliwag has a very thin skin. It is possible to see the Pokémon's spiral innards right through the skin. Despite its thinness, however, the skin is also very flexible. Even sharp fangs bounce right off it.

We are pretty much looking at the poliwag organs, fun!

I've been out of the Pokemon game since Pokemon Yellow, but reading through these reminds me of why I got into Pokemon in the first place. Makes me want to pick up X&Y or something. What would be a good re-entry point into the series?

It's the beginning of 3D graphics and has a lot of homage and nods to the first gen. So I would say yes, it is an ideal starting point. Plus it has really great Pokemon designs and introduces a new type.

X&Y is also good because it has some stuff from kanto (Red, Blue, Yellow) so you would have something new to look at while some familiar pokemon appear too.
You also get to choose between the original starters a bit after the first gym

Gardevoir has the psychokinetic power to distort the dimensions and create a small black hole. This Pokémon will try to protect its Trainer even at the risk of its own life.

So yeah don't mess with me or I get Gardevoir to destroy us all.

Anyway all these Pokédex entries just highlight why I don't accept Megas as real Pokémon as they don't have Pokédex entries so they don't create the illusion that they naturally exist in the wild.

I liked how on HeartGold/SoulSilver there's this weight thing to campare the weight of the trainer and the Pokémon, I particuarly like how it shows that Snorlax is way heavier than Onix.

According to the Pokédex, Snorlax, which is like a big bear, is over twice as heavy as the giant snake made of rocks, and it's also heavier than the giant snake made of steel, though not the mega giant snake made of steel.
