What are your biggest gaming regrets?

Passing on a copy of Valkyrie Profile that was in perfect condition to get "The Bouncer".

I liked The Bouncer and still feel bad for you on that one.

my biggest gaming reget was that I sold all my japanese NES games. Rockman 3, double dragon 3, Ninja Ryukenden 3, Contra, super mario 3, double dragon 2 etc.

Selling a bunch of old Genesis titles like Shining in the Darkness, Kid Chameleon, Toejam and Earl

Selling FF3US, and Phantasy Star 2. Yeah, Phantasy Star 2 as in my favorite game ever. I have no idea what kind of drugs I was on when I did that...

Losing my NES and a bunch of classic games like Dragon Warrior III, IV, Lolo 3, Megaman 3, when my mom gave it to some random ass 2nd cousin who I barely even knew. Now I got nearly all of that back (still need Lolo 3!), plus more. Apparently that cousin now has a band and his CD is available in record shops and stuff, if he ever makes it big I should have him refund me for the NES.

Saw Rez for PS2 in shops Xmas season 2001. Was interested in it, I mean it's SEGA and featured trance and techno, (PS2 was my big gift for Xmas) asked the gamestop guy if it was worth it, and he said, the game sucks, don't bother with it. And I put it back. Lucky for me I ended up playing it 2 years later...

My biggest regret is that I wasn't into gaming when the move from 2D to 3D happened.

Prior to that, I was a huge Nintendo fanboy all growing up. NES, SNES, GameBoy brick, loved all three, had tons of games for each. Then I got out of gaming for a few years when I graduated high school, and coincidentally missed out on the generational switch from SNES/Genesis to PS/N64. I remember seeing a few N64 games and thinking "lolz" at the muddy graphics, and how blurry everything looked compared to crisp, clean 2D SNES games.

Then in '98 I was bored one day and thought, hey, I've been completely out of the loop for a couple of years now, I should get a PS, so I got one with Symphony of the Night, and I've pretty much been in full swing ever since. I'm mostly caught up with games I want to play, but I realize I deprived myself of experiencing a truly exciting time in gaming, one I have a feeling will probably never be duplicated again (let's keep those Rev jokes in check, please. :) )

Buying the PS2 at launch.

Buying the Xbox at launch.

Buying the Cube at launch.

Buying the PSP at launch.

Buying the DS at launch.

I will not buy another system at launch ever again!!

Buying a Gamecube. Metroid Prime and Drillland are the only games I've owned for it that I feel were worth it. Everything else--Pikmin, Sunshine, Wind Waker, Luigi, etc.--just hasn't "clicked." If it weren't for the fun I have on the DS I'd have written off Nintendo entirely. However, that pales into comparison to...

Buying a Japanese Xbox LE at launch for something like $450. It was $100 cheaper within 2 months, and I got a free copy of the Japanese Halo for my troubles. Wow. I eventually got it modded and turned it into something than a useless smoky brick, but that signed Bill Gates keychain still haunts me to this day. :(

I had the "wrong" stuff growing up, and I missed out on a lot of popular games: I had a Sega Master System and a Sega Genesis, rather than the comparable Nintendo consoles. The systems were great, but it's hard to find someone who is as nostalgic for Outrun and Alex Kidd as they are for Mario and Zelda.

The family computers weren't much better -- in order, we owned a TRS-80 Model 1 (!!!), an IBM PCjr, and a generic 80286 PC without any kind of graphics acceleration. I missed out on most of the kickass stuff on Commodore 64, Apple IIs, Amigas...

Buying a PSP. What a waste of money for me. It hasn't been charged for months.

And next gen I'm going one-console. In retrospective I only bought the other two consoles to "broaden my experiences" and cure my insecurity about being the stereotypical fanboy profile. This time around I don't care what the hell people think and I'll play games that I like.

Mine went uncharged for the better part of last year. Some games worth playing finally game out in December in Japan, though. Have faith...the PSP may rise again.

The only PSP game that slightly interests me is Irregular Hunter X, because I was really mad to find the X Collection's remixes had been stripped because of that game.

Other than that, Byte Hell 2000 in the bargain bin, if it even reaches these shores.

Baito Hell 2000. Fight GameSpot misinformation!

Well that would make sense.

But then again back when I first heard about it and its horribly obvious Nintendo knockoffs, it wasn't from Gamespot.

The PSP is near the top of the list.

Besides that...

Probably not keeping a gaming log/journal until just about a year ago - I would have enjoyed reading my impressions and my friend's impressions on the games we grew up with... Super Mario Brothers, Sqoon, Spirit of Excaliber, Phantasy Star, Ultima, AD&D: Pool of Radiance, Dragon Warrior, Choplifter, etc.

All of you young gamers... keep a little journal and write crap in it periodically when you game. You'll be amazed how much you enjoy looking back on it when you get old as shit (e.g., 30, like me.)

What's with all the Gamecube hate? 200 bucks back when it came out, and I don't regret it at all.

My biggest regret is hocking the best of my SNES games around the DC launch so I could afford Sonic Adventure. Actraiser, Mega Man X 1-3...ugh...At least I had the balls to keep Final Fantasy III, Super Metroid and Zelda...

buying a launch ps2...then when it broke a few months later, buying another 1st batch ps2...rinse and repeat.
That would be mine. PS2 has such awesome games but it makes me sad that the hardware wasn't exactly up to snuff.

Yeah I said "up to snuff".

Selling my NES and games to get a SNES back in 1993 then selling my SNES and games to buy Rage Racer and Ace Combat back in 1997. I recently started buying back many of the SNES games I had I have not gotten around to buying the NES and games.

Wow, let's see... in chronological order:

1. Buying Phantasy Star IV for $100 (Awesome game, but short and easy)

2. Buying Streets of Rage 3 for $80 (Censored American version and short game too)

3. Buying Virtua Racing (Genesis) for $100 (Bleh)

4. Buying a new 32X for $150

5. Forcing my parents for get me a $400 Saturn on that early launch date in May of 95

6. Buying a NeoGeo Pocket Color and 5 games for more than $100 in 2004

7. Buying World of Warcraft, getting to level 20 and not cancelling the account for half a year, thinking that I might actually want to play it again.

8. Buying a $400 AGP video card when AGP was being quickly phased out

9. Paying $60 for DoA4

Buying a Gameboy Advance.
Buying the Gameboy Advance SP.
Buying the NintenD00DS.

Not buying Ninpen Man-Maru and Steam Hearts for the Saturn.

Not buying multiple copies of certain games to fleece suckers for later.

Don't regret my gamecube at all... eternal darkness, skies of arcadia legends, Killer 7, Metroid Prime, Resident Evil 4/zero/remake, Viewtiful Joe, Wind Waker... I surely got more gaming enjoyment out of it than my PSP.

Eh, I don't really regret selling off my old NES/Atari/Odyssey 2/PC games... I figure that by the time I'm sufficiently old enough to be stricken with truly painful nostalgic loss syndrome, I'll have the financial wherewithall to drop a grand or two on eBay to reacquire all of the old hardware to show little Ozymandias Jr. how Daddy gamed back in The Day.

1.) Buying an Atari Jaguar. I blame Gamefan magazine for this one! They really sold me on this system with their excitement and fantastic, colorful pictures. Damn you Skid and your ridiculous review of Cybermorph!!!!!! >:(

2.) Buying a Sega Saturn at launch. In the end, I loved the system. However I wish I had never paid 399.99 for it. After the initial wave of Virtua Fighter, Panzer Dragoon, and Daytona had worn off I was left with nothing to play on the system for quite a long time. It wasn't until I got it modded and started importing some of the great Japanese titles that I finally felt fulfilled with my purchase. The 2nd wave of great titles like Virtua Fighter 2, Nights, Sega Rally, Guardian Heroes, and Panzer Dragoon Saga certainly helped as well!

3.) Never importing the japanese Sonic CD. The import music kicked ass and so did the game! However the US version had different music and detracted from the games overall greatness.

4.) Selling my factory sealed copy of Panzer Dragoon Saga for 70 bucks! This was a few years ago. However I wish to hell I had held onto it now.

LOL. I know! I think GameFan would've made me buy it too. Luckily, I didn't have the cash at the time. They did sell me on the 32X though. :< Those guys hyped the shit out of everything. I think the whole magazine was just a promo catalog for their game store. Sure had great screenshots and import coverage though.

-Not taking advantage of the "preorder Shadow Hearts Covenant, get Shadow Hearts 1 free" deal. Ugh.

-Not buying Ogre Battle 64 when it came out.

-Not buying the 3 (yes, 3) X-box 360's on display at my backwoods Toys-R-Us on launch day and reselling them for alot of money on eBay.

Oh, and listening to everyone's praise for Katamari Damacy. I could have used that $20 toward the massive amount of cash it's going to take to pay off my ban that's about to happen in 3, 2...

Why are you getting banned?

Waiting so long to get a Dreamcast. I got mine about a month before the discontinuation (paying way more than I needed to if I'd waited a couple more weeks... thanks EB monkey for hurriedly trying to get me to hand over the cash lest I catch wind of the imminent price-drop) and missed out on so much because of that. Tying in with this regret is then waiting so long to get Rez.

Electroplankton.

I got a few more:

- Blowing my paychecks on Dreamcast games. Anything that didn't suck ass, I bought. I bought a lot of mediocrity. I figured it was justified to get mediocre games since they cost less than $5. I wanted to have a huge Dreamcast library back when I was 16. I remember selling the Dreamcast games back (the system broke after about three years of faithful service) and getting maybe 25 or 50 cents out of the $5 I paid for a game. I paid maybe about $1000 for all my Dreamcast games and sold them all for probably less than $250. That includes Marvel vs. Capcom 2, in which I sold it for $15.

- Buying obscure games without reviewing. I remember how I paid $50 for that turd Skygunner (PS2). I also remember paying $54.99 for Tekken 4, which I don't remember why I paid $5 more for the game. Not only was the game shit, I paid more than I needed to.

- Getting a PS One in the PS2 era (2003 if I can recall). Not only that but I bought a lot of the Capcom fighters. During those 15 seconds when Marvel Super Heroes vs. Street Fighter was loading, I cursed myself and wondered how stupid could I be. The PS One has aged horribly, especially with graphics.

- Paying $50 for Harvest Moon 64, cart only. The game isn't that good. I gave the game and my Nintendo 64 to my sister as a birthday present and she traded it to a friend for two shitty beat up CDs: Hole and H.I.M. What an idiot. Not only did my money go towards something traded in for significantly less value but Hole? HIM? What in the hell.

- Any moment where I try to relive nostalgia. I get a retro console, a bunch of games, and after a week (if even that), I realize that gaming today is better than its ever been. Then I see another several hundred dollars wasted. At that point I usually spend another couple hundred on some more games, and sell it back for a small percentage of what I put into it. Any moment of nostalgia now, I just download an emulator and some roms. I enjoy the retro gaming but without the remorse of wasted money afterwards.

-Selling my N64 for a skateboard
-Selling my PS2 for an Xbox

And though I didn't do it, my parents selling my SNES and NES with all my games in a garage sale makes me cry a little inside.

Well, at leas you only lost one good game.

*Buying State of Emergency
*Taking part in the 5 for 1 deals @ EB
*Buying the Xbox on eve of Halo2 just because of all the hype- only to get rid of the system & game 4 months later after it was plagued by cheaters/modders/mass quiters.

Buying both, playing each for a month, and having no use for the HDD except a one-week stint with Outbreak.

There goes about $250 CDN.

Sold of my earlier PS2 library. Had all the big games from launch to 2002.
The most precious being the card-boxed pal Silent Hill 2.
